Moh247: Atiku is an amateur politician? Come back after the elections and show us the result from rivers You are probably not better than the entire NASS that made laws against their own benefits You reckon this coming election is about who has the highest numbers of thugs at his beck and calls You reckon it is about having man one behind you... The days of keeping result sheet is over Hope you know that there are LGs in rivers that are ibos and very populated? Magnus will go and tell them not to vote Obi on the ground. I know what i am talking about. Read again, I say the pendulum swings to wherever Wike goes. Otherwise Obi carries the day here. Remember Wike and Obi are very good friends. Peter was one the few people that came and brought his NEXT Supermarket chain when many were shunning Wike at the onset of his administration. Wike still cherishes his friendship. Forget about the political banters. Wike nominated Peter for the VP position for Atiku at the last election without consulting the then PDP governors from the South East. So my friend, politics aside , Wike is more at home with Peter than any of these fair weather friends visiting him now. The last important point is the strength of Igboid Community ( Indigenes and non-indigenes) in Rivers. Aside the Ijaw group, they are the most formidable. Ogoni is still trying to find which group to align with since the present political dispensation and they will get there once they sort themselves out. Nigeria politics have not evolved beyond tribal and religion. It was a bit better during Abiola’s period.. Moreover BAT can never be an Abiola in million years. Are you telling me PHALGA, OBALGA, Eche and Oyibo will leave Peter and vote for BAT ? I do not think so. |

CeoMYN: I do not think that Amechi factor will likely matter in the Presidential election because his name is not in the ballot. It would essential be a contest between Obi and PDP. The PDP might have it if Wike comes out forcely swinging for Atiku otherwise Peter Obi would win big here. On Ethnic configuration, I do not want to think you are not from Rivers. Otherwise even non-indegens know that the State is essentail made up of three nationalities, Ijoid, Igboid and Ogoni. If you are a political pundit, you will know that next year voting pattern would be hugely influence by these ethinc composition. |
Re: Kwakwanso Visits Wike In Port Harcourt by Nobody: 1:38pm On Jul 01, 2022 |
Nwaetche: The Amaechi and Wike factor always decide elections in Rivers State. The ethnic groups you are calling Igboid are not Igbos, and has nothing to gain by voting Obi. My tribe in Rivers is also called Igboid but we are not Igbos. We have nothing to gain by associating with them. What everyone talk about is Amaechi, Wike, Abe. |
Re: Kwakwanso Visits Wike In Port Harcourt by Nwaetche(m): 2:49pm On Jul 01, 2022 |
CeoMYN: As you know, Igboid and Ijoid are generic names use to group related ethnics groups( in terms of culture, language or other commonalities). It is not about what to gain or lose. I really do not want to engage in the discussion of whether kalabari, Wakrike, Abua, Andoni, etc are Ijaws. On the same note, I would not say that Ali Iwhuruohna, Ndi Echie, Ali Ogba, Ndi Ndoni, etc. are Igbos hence the deliberate use of the terms ijoids and igboids. Additionally, I strongly believe that everyone is at liberty to belong to wherever you want. That is why Nyerisi Ezebunwo Nyesom Wike and dede Chibuike Amaechi (two prominent Iwhuruohna sons) could claim non-Ibo and Ibo respectively. Even in Echie, with four LGAs saddling two states Imo and Rivers (with two each on both side of the divide), some folks do not want to be referred to as Igbos while the majority claim to be Igbos. Recently, some folks from Ebieri Omuma are trying to carve out a different ethnic identify from the mainstream Etchie ethnic nationality. Even in Ijoid group, some groups in Kalabari Indigenous Movement say they are not Ijaws while many others subscribe to IYC/INC. which makes it imperative to use Igboid and Ijoid to avoid personal sensitivities. I have gone to this length to show you why I do not engage in those discussions . However, no matter how anyone frames it, Rivers state remains essential Ijoid, Igboid and Ogoni. In this election Amaechi is not on ballot for the presidency. It would between PDP powered by Wike and Obi rejuvenated Labour party because the Igboid (Indigenes and non-Indigenes) would vote massively for Peter Obi from the feelers I am getting from PHALGA, OBALGA and Oyibo. As you know, this is where statewide elections are won and lost. If Wike does not swing forcefully for Atiku Obi will win massively. Ijoid vote would be shared between PDP and APC but that would not change the outcome. Ogoni is fractured between Abe APC faction and PDP Barry Mpigi. No party will have a block vote here so the three Big (PHALGA, OBALGA and OYIGBO) will still be the deciding factor. |

Nwaetche: Sorry, there's no tribe like Igbo in my State. You dey run analysis for me wey be indigene. Forget... We no go gain anything if we vote Obi. Na Wike and Amaechi we know. Wetin concern us with Igboid and the rest brouhaha. E no concern us o. Next year election go show, you grab. Make Obi commot mind from our caban... We get two Lions wey dey rule us. |

CeoMYN: I can see you are more fixated about a tribe called Igbo and not necessary contributing to our discussion on Rivers evolving politics in the current dispensation. From my vantage and unbiased understanding about the Igbos I can say but I stand to be corrected that The Igbo is a Nation of tribes and Sub-nationalities with different dialects. Some of these dialects are widely varied but somehow mutually understandable. That is why a Wawa man from Nsukka can understand an Isoma from Orlu and an Ika man from Delta state can understand Iwhuruohna to a large even without visiting Ali Ikwerre. The first time I went to Ohaozara in Ebonyi from Rivers state, I understood most of of whsat they were saying even though I see the language as sounding fast and funny. However, there is a central Igbo language derived mainly from the ISOMA Igbo sub-nation which are used as a central language and studies in schools in South East and Delta states. The Igbo designation is currently used for clans in South East, Ochie clan and some clans in Delta North while the larger Igboids terminology is used for all Igbos including other Igbo related clans namely Iwhuruohna, Ndoki, Ogba, Otobo, Ndoni, Ahoada, Egbema, Ika and Ikwuani, etc. This is a fact and will not change because of CeoMYN wishes . It is expected that in huge nations like Igbos, there will always be ethnic and clan rivalries, mutual suspicions and acrimonies. That is normal but when interests align, they help each other. This is exactly how it happens in other big and geographically dispersed nations like ijaw and Yoruba. My uncle who is a third class Chief in Ulakwo Etchie can harm you if you say he is not Ibo why others will just go with the toga of being a Riversman. As I said before, it is an individual thing. It is a common knowledge that huge votes we usually record in PHALGA, OBALGA and Oyigbo are due to indigenous and non- indigenous igboid groups helping to retain power for the uplanders. You cannot tell me that the votes come from Iwhuruohna people alone. I mentioned in my last quote that SIMS Fubara would win based on these ethnic factors and party affiliation. The same Ethnic sentiment will get Peter Obi the votes too. It is a common knowledge that some Ijaw groups are pained today because Igbos from the present South East in the person of ZIk, Ekwueme worked with some Ikwerre personalities like the former Eze Apara Rebisi to see that the new Rivers have majority Igboid. You can only understand these things if you are on the ground and probably not conflicted by seemly ethnic bigotry – My take and End of this discussion for me. |

CeoMYN: You are still responding and generalising; please see in Wikipedia “Ogba (also Olu Ogba, mobu onu Ogbah) is an Igboid language spoken by Ogba people of Nigeria” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ogba_language Read also Percy Amaury Talbot, "Tribes of the Niger Delta" , (London: Frank Cass and company, 1932) I beg you to please do not generalise. Just resist that temptation. I believe you are a young man with world view. For discussion sake on Ogba specifically, you should know one Chief Francis Ellah. He was arguably the most influential Ogba personality before his death some few years ago. He was a member of Ohanaeze’s decision making organ and was nominated by Ohanaeze as one of its delegates at the National Reform Conference. He authored the foremost Ogba history book called Ali-Ogba: A History of Ogba People. His family and many other families in the various kindred still claims Igbo. Ogba is even close to Igbo heartland of Anambra and Imo than most communities in Ali Ikwerre. On a history note, do you know that the change from the Eze Ogba tittle to Oba was just done in 1970? It was the current Oba of Ogbaland, Barr Nwachukwu Nnam Obi late father, Eze Chukwumela who changed the title when he ascended the throne, from Eze to Oba to demonstrate his loyalty to the then Igbophobic Dieter Spiff, who was then the Military admin of Rivers state. Eze Chukwuemeka’s father, Eze Nwokoma Silk Obi and his predecessors never used Oba. It would interest you to know that my grand dad ( A court Clerk in the then Ahoada division)) told me that the elders of Umuohali kindred refused to crown Chukwuemela until he re-instated the Eze Ogba title. This he did albeit hidden in tiny letters before they conducted the traditional parade at Ahia Orie traditional play ground. Look well you will always see the full tittle as Oba of Ogbaland(Eze Ogba). Our traditional ruler, the Ochie was made to keep parroting that Etchie is not Ibo even with his kingdom wickedly balkanised with half in Imo state to keep his stool. This is very understandable, it was difficult to be Igboid in the old Rivers state. Some Ogba communities I was informed were cajoled to stop selling lands to Igbos from South East on the pretext of a made-up pre-historic and non existent Igbo treachery to seize the kingdom The originators of that fallacy forgot that that there were no unified Igbo kingdom during those day. The closest Igbo clan to Ogba is Ogbaru in Anambra state which migrated to their current location from Ukwuanni in Delta State with some elements of Igala people and with no history of miltary expansionism. as you probably know in the old Rivers most times, someone loyalty was measured on how toxic and igbophobic you could be and how you diligently demonstrated that in public utterances. But I thank God that my family and many other Igboid groups resisted that appellation giving us opportunity to look at things objectively withou dwelling in the past bigotry. The creation of Bayelsa state and the pollical retirement of the old guards are changing the narratives. Many Ogba folks are in Ohaneze and are proud Igbos. Others do not subscribe but claim Benin which is not a problem. Even leading Igbo Monarchy, the Obi of Onitsha at one point I was told claimed Benin. As I said, anyone can be what he wants to be but what I do not like is someone sitting at his desk and making claims for the general public even the Eze Ogba or my Ochie can not do that. It may interest you to know that the first time I travelled to Scotland to attend a drilling course, I was hosted by folks from Onitcha-Ugbo in Delta state who saw me at Aberdeen Airport as their Igbo Brothers and took me in free of charge. during my stay, I was pleasantly surprised to see many Ogba, Ikwerre, Ekpeye, etc. folks attending Igbo meetings and helping one another. As I said, we are all Riversmen and women. We have lived in peace and harmony for ages with everyone including our immediate neighbours, the Ijaws of Bayelsa and Igbos of South East as well as our Ogoni, Ijoid and Igboid brothers and sisters in Rivers state itself. Let’s exercise decorum when talking in public and try not to wash our dirty linen in public space. Please extend my highest regards to the good people and kindreds of Ali Ogba. |
