tolats: Even though i think it's too early to apply now for september 2023 visa, in your case I will suggest at the ideal time, you apply with the same passport and write a simple explanatory letter to explain that your passport will be renewed before the expiration of the current one while stating you couldnt have renewed it before applying for the visa as the passport still had up to 6 months life span. Alternatively, still try to renew your passport even if it has more than 6 months left before end of validity, you can never tell how possible it could be. I am a living witness because i have a passport that expires 10th december 2022 but i still applied for a new one (10 yr passport) in March 2022 using an agent in Lagos and the passport came out in May. Try to speak to an immigration agent and you ll be surprised many things are possible in this country. 1 Like |

U don’t need the passport to be valid for the whole of the trip. I have done as well as family members. You can either renew in the UK when you are nearly done with your activity or use a British airways or virgin direct flight back to Nigeria at the completion of your trip or if it makes you feel better get an emergency travel certificate from the Nigeria High commission in London.. but you wont be denied as a Nigerian entry into your country becaus of expired ppt. There is also no immigration stand when exiting the UK from the airports. Noone cares, just leave their country . tolats: 1 Like |

yerima21: Actually the visit should be October 2022 but ends September 2023 hence the need for clarification on the expiry of my passport. An immigration officer also told me they can renew the passport but with an approval of their passport controller but with an extra fees. But my concern is just to clarify if I can travel back home while the passport has expired because if I start the renewal process now, only God knows when it would come out. |

Re: General UK Visa Enquiries - Part 5 by yerima21: 1:40pm On Jul 05, 2022 |
tolats: if the visit is from october 2022 then you should be ok as per visa application and no one will expect you to renew a passport that still has nearly 1 year validity. Alternatively you can go ahead and try renewal, the most important aspect is biometrics data capturing. If the new passport come out when you are in the UK someone you designate can collect it and send to you through DHL. However, like someone already said, you can also return back to Nigeria with your already expired passport without problem. In fact since the covid crisis and the consequent delays in issuing new passports the Nigerian immigration has authorised Nigerians especially in diaspora to travel with thier expired passpots without any hindrance and I personally know those who have been travelling to Nigeria with thier expired passports |

Good day, Pls was this expressly asked for in the application for the type of visa u want? If not, it's not needed. Just state the departure and return dates in Ur application and that's fine. Goodluck emcaris: |

Good day Am assuming ur the alone going on the trip? The embassy not only looks at ur account balance in ur statements but also ur inflows and outflows. So u will need to study ur bank statement to know the averages across board. Any lump sums should have an explanation. Ur salary inflow (if ur employed) should be regular monthly remittance. If ur self employed, the inflows need to explained by way of the nature of such transactions. As for ur 2M adequacy question, let's check it out £1100 is about 825k which it seems is for accomodation and some shopping. U didn't input money for ur return flight wch ranges from 350-500K. Give or take ur spending between 1.2-1.4M which about 70% of ur 2M leaving u with 30% of ur total balance which won't sight right with the VO. As a rule of thumb, make sure ur total money to be spent on ur travel (flight, hotel, shopping etc) is less than 40% of the sum available on ur bank balance. The lesser percentage the better. Hope this helps u Goodluck TruthCorp: 1 Like |

Hello guys Many thanks for the work you are doing. Quick question please, if someone enters the UK with their maiden name on their Nigerian passport and BRP, but wishes to update the BRP to husband's name, what is the process? Should an update of the BRP be applied for when the passport still has the maiden name or does the passport need to be renewed with the new name before the BRP can be updated? Or can the person just start using the new name here while the BRP and Nigerian passport still have the maiden name since there is a marriage certificate? Note that the marriage took place shortly before the visa application commenced and the Nigerian passport still has up to 2 years before expiry. |
Re: General UK Visa Enquiries - Part 5 by askari01: 9:34am On Jul 06, 2022 |
2m is a huge sum of money...if you are being invited to the UK , £1k will be fine If using hotel or hostel for 6days ,£1300 is ok. all should be calculated using oanda rate and not black market pls. Flight- 650 accomodation- 300 pocket money- 350 If u like do shopping, e no concern embassy so therefore dont attach too much importance to shopping money. Ensure no lodgement or boosting of accounts like Nigerians call it.Dont sell ur property and ask the buyer to send into ur salary account few weeks to your application or get back a soft loan from a friend ,keep ur account clean n straightforward... they know all those tactics. Ensure not spending more than 2.5-3times ur disposable income DrStrangelove: 2 Likes |

KaceeDcontrol: You can change it by deed poll, then wait until your passport is about to expire in 2 years time. Then send your deed poll certificate to have the BRP changed, then get your passport in the new name on your BRP. |
Re: General UK Visa Enquiries - Part 5 by mimilyrics: 11:26am On Jul 06, 2022 |
Deed poll not required for name changes due to marriage. Request for updated name on BRP must be made within 3 months of changing the name on your passport. Passport needs to be renewed first as the only name that can go on your BRP is the one on your passport. If you want to change immediately, 1. apply for a new passport in the name you want to use. 2. Apply for a new BRP and follow instructions here: https://visas-immigration.service.gov.uk/product/biometric-residence-permit-replacement-service If you want to wait till when it is time to renew/extend your visa/BRP, 1. Apply for your passport in your new name few months before BRP expiration. 2. Make an application to extend/renew your visa, fill out the form with the new name on your passport, give details of your previous name, passports visas and whatever has changed. 3. Submit your marriage certificate + new passport to support the change in details. 4. Register your biometrics and wait for your BRP in your new name. KaceeDcontrol: 1 Like |
Re: General UK Visa Enquiries - Part 5 by mimilyrics: 11:29am On Jul 06, 2022 |
Not necessary. Deed polls are not required for name changes due to marriage and updated BRPs have to be requested within 3 months of the name change (in this case, when the passport is updated to reflect the new details) in order to avoid paying a £1,000 fine. Ray7878: 2 Likes |

1. UKVI uses Oanda rates. It is well stated on refusal letters, no need for any over projections. Over projection is not a prerequisite 2. Shopping is not mandatory. We have seen this time and time over again. Many also on this thread have applied for visas without shopping element and were granted. It is not mandatory. 3. Assess your financial situation.. staying within less than 3 times your disposable income has worked for a great number of people. xo 1 Like |

askari01: Thank you very much for the feed back Yes I’m traveling alone So the £1100 is inclusive of a return ticket valued at £700 with a daily average spend on accommodation, feeding etc of £100 X 6 which sums up to £1,300 (made a typo with the 1,100) I have been using the exchange on O&a currency converter as a guide on how the embassy would convert my Naira deposits (I hope that’s okay?) and going by this £1,300 amounts to N654,692 which is about 33% of the 2m balance. Looking to make it as simple as possible that’s why I initially opted for my salary account alone where I very much intend to explain every inflow and outflow. Thanks again |
