Because the 12.06 was highly wind assisted (over 2m/s), her earlier 12.12s run remains the WR.

If only Nigeria has great administrators and leaders. Imagine what we could have achieved on world stage.

Congratulations to Tobi Amusan.
I bear Tobi too so I'm sharing in the blessings grin grin

Yeah, after I signed off for the night as she was the one who kept me awake, I later saw that they ratified the time due to a 2.5m/s wind assistance.

Omo... it may not be counted official but it is a lifetime best and she use am collect Gold medal. grin

12.12secs ran (0.9 m/s wind assisted) is the official WR and I don't think any lady will be touching that for a long time.

Athletics legend, Michael Johnson and other American haters like him can go eat worms. Their main girl, Kendra Harrison fell off by the 8th hurdle or so as she saw she couldn't keep up with the alien speed she witnessed in Tobi Amusan of NIGERIA!!!!

Take that Johnson!!!

Meanwhile, The first time the Nigerian Anthem was ever played at a World Athletics Championships meet got Tobi crying so much joyful tears.

The 2 Queens who ensured Nigeria registered a strong presence on the medals table at the "World Cup" of Athletics in Oregon, USA.

Tobi Amusan - 100mH World Champion (2022), African Champion, Commonwealth Champion, World Record Holder at official ratified time of 12.12secs. Broke WR twice in one night. Immortality Monster.

Ese Brume - Long Jump World Silver Medallist (2022), Olympic Bronze Medallist, African Champion. Consistent Medals Hope for Nigeria at Major Athletics competitions.

Commonwealth Games already shaking.... The World Record Holder, World Champion and Defending Commonwealth Champion in women's 100mH is coming alongside one of the most consistent Long Jumpers in the world of Athletics who is a one time Commonwealth Champion herself in 2014 as she missed the Commonwealth games in 2018.

And yes, Bronze at Doha 2019 (World Championship), Bronze again at the Tokyo Olympics (2021), Silver at the 2022 World Indoor Championships and now Silver at Oregon 2022 (World Championship). Brume is surely getting closer and closer to that deserved Gold someday. Still 26 with lots of jumps left in her to pull off for more historic moments.

Moments of Joy, Moments of Glory: Tears in Amusan's Eyes on the podium

Naija's first ever World Champion in any Athletics event and the first time the Nigerian Anthem would be sang at a World Athletics Championship and it just had to be in the USA.

What a moment for this Queen.

@Third frame... Notice how she already saw the World Record coming. She wrote it on that Adidas Athletes' wall of dreams (aka Hospitality wall) before the Semis. She literally spoke what she has been working hard for into existence. Power of positive confessions at work. cool

I rejoice with the Lady. What a wonderful feat. And i pray & hope not a drop of Performance Enchancing Drug is found in her system in days to come. Some people in the world are just waiting to hear the result of the tests that will come afterwards. Athletics of today is riddled with performance enhancer. I pray o Lord that she's clean. Amen!

If Tobi were American, sponsorship deals and partnerships will be streaming in. To think Abby Steiner who just went pro a few weeks ago got a $2M dollar deal from Puma just cause of her NCAA wins and the potential she has speaks more to this. Really hoping that brands in Nigeria will pick up Tobi and Ese in view of the 2024 Olympics (and maybe Favour Ofili) as they are our biggest opportunities for gold in Paris.

BTW, I know Tobi has a deal with Adidas, but I'm almost certain it pales in comparison to what she deserves. Hoping that that is reviewed now that she's a world record holder.

That world championship 4th placing was painful...She ran well in thee previous heat, but somehow she started that final slowly..By the time sheet hit full speed it was already too late... I really felt for her...

This is the first time any Nigerian has ever held a world record in any athletic event..It's really big!! Perhaps this would motivate our sport federation to invest more in the sport..
We still have a lot of budding talents like Favour Ofili, Favour Ashe, Enoch Adegoke, Ini-Ubong, Ruth Usoro, etc.....
Where is oduduru been long I heard of him..
If he was in the men relay team we could have got a shot at the podium

Some stupid trash questioning the WR time Tobi barely minutes after the race.

Would he have been so "analytical" if it was an American that broke the record?

Wat did MJ say?

Chrisooblog has answered already but let me just put up the frame for all to see without clicking the link.... and drop some extra takes.

This legend said this below barely after Amusan smashed the WR the first time in Heat 1 of the 100mH Semifinals.

He didn't have anything to say or showed any doubts when Tobi set the African record in the Round 1 heats of same world championship and neither did he criticize all other timings at this Championship especially by American, Sydney Mclaughlin in the 400mH.

But immediately Amusan touched the WR (now Former WR) held by Johnson's fellow American, Kendra Harrison (12.20secs) and tore it up into shreds with a new one of 12.12secs, Johnson began singing this song below (shown in attached frame).....

....only for Amusan to again shatter the 12.12 secs later in the final making a new 12.06secs WR which was later ratified (for me I think politically as it took them quite an unusual time to ratify the head wind assistance of 2.5m/s).

And this WR,12.06 (+2/5m/s head wind) came after he uttered this balderdash for the initial WR, 12.12 (+0.9m/s head wind).

Eventually 12.12 secs is the officially recognised WR but 12.06 will be counted as a lifetime best for Amusan in all conditions.

My take in a nutshell: Johnson is a real ass

Let me add that his comments section were not initially turned off on twitter. He turned it off after the rain of the Nigerians began on his TL. Lol
