Can the government feed them ? The government could not even feed poor and vulnerable Nigerians for a month during COVID-19, yet u talk of the government feeding millions of youth forcefully conscripted into the army for 3 years max….. grin

Those currently in the army don’t even get paid well, they have to wear their uniforms to save transport fare in places like Lagos just to survive the current economic realities . Go to places like Mile 2, iyana iba, orile , festac side etc …. Most of the commercial bike men there are military and security officers using their bikes as side hustle just to survive with their families .

Where Government wan take see money take care of the soldiers welfare ?

This is even my own issue with that Agbado talk.

Can we cater for, and equip an extra 50,000 humans in the military?

No be small billions be this oh

I understand you sha.... but still 100% batified. I believe Tinubu is gonna assemble best heads to fix Nigeria.

Its really not about him, coz only one person can't fix Nigeria.... that's a fact. You need intelligent, competent heads around you to get the Country fixed.

Tinubu has proven himself in that regard, and I seriously hope he's gonna do same as President of Federal Republic of Nigeria right from next year.

One thing I’ve learnt from Buhari’s government and a presidential position of a national body I held in 2019 is that the President is the major engine. The level of determination someone vying for presidency is far different from anybody he will pick to be part of his cabinet.
That “On your Mandate we stand” chant has deep meaning.

So when the person with the mandate is weak, everybody standing on that mandate is automatically weakened. In Nigeria where we have very weak institutions, it becomes a free for all, which we are experiencing today.

This is the reason why I am totally against a Tinubu’s presidency.

There are various ways the government can raise money to feed them. Energize the FIRS to double the current number of tax payers, raise the tax rates as well or increase VAT.

Nigeria’s VAT rate is currently 7.5%. It was recently increased from 5% to 7.5%. For a country trying to eradicate poverty, it’s way too small. For instance, UK’s VAT rate is 20% - and that’s a developed country who has forgotten about poverty for donkey years.

No reorientation can actually change us as a people.

The only solution is tough and stringent laws. It is because we don't enforce laws, no accountability,
that's why cases like these fly easily

Who will enforce the laws?

Take the okada ban in some LG in Lagos as an example, those flouting the rules are basically those who should be enforcing the law.

If Nigerians don’t learn from this Buhari unfortunate situation , I doubt they will ever learn.

Like his government is a free for all ; no coordination/ collaboration amongst units that should function together for the good of the country . An example is During the whole COVID-19 pandemic , while the ministry of health was specific about people avoiding crowded areas to prevent the spread of the virus ; the ministry of communications under Pantami was given ultimatum to mobile phone network subscribers to register their mobile lines which obviously leads to hundreds of people thronging to sim registration centres to link their NIN . Like why work at cross purposes when u are serving the same administration that must have promised to work in the best interest of the citizens ?

All of this won't still arm, feed and provide equipment for a 50 million-strong army. Tinubu goofed with that statement, he knows that and his team came out to say it was a slip of tongue.

lolz ….I put it to u my friend that u don’t know what u are talking about .

So in order for u to feed millions of youth to be conscripted into the army u will have FIRS increase VAT, double the number of tax payers.

How ? Like how do u double number of tax payers when more and more people are getting out of jobs due to companies folding up , high operational and overhead costs which reduces the income of businesses and thereby affects the amount payable as tax ?

We are not talking theories written in textbooks here, we are talking practical realities we see almost everyday . Like some people practically rely on friends and relatives to feed now; people who used to earn decent living before now . How does FIRS want to increase the number of tax payers when such people increase in number almost everyday ?

It will more than feed & equip the army.

Nigeria currently falls short in the amount of taxes the government should be collecting. The amount is about $48 billion short every year.

If the FIRS gets his act together and level up, triple the current VAT rate, they should be able to feed the obscene number of jobless youths drafted into the military.

But then, Nigerians aren’t ready for this level of discourse. It’s above their pay grade.

Double the tax on the rich folks
Tax the artisans.
Raise enforcers in the villages - Tax everyone.

Nigeria has the lowest tax-to-GDP rate in Africa. The people from Togo, Ghana, Rwanda, Niger, Congo pay more tax contributions to their GDP than Nigerians.

The world bank actually said the minimum tax-to-GDP rate to eradicate poverty should be 15%. In Nigeria, it is like 6%. Meanwhile, the developed countries you people love to admire from a distance contribute a whooping 34% in taxes alone to their total GDP.

Yet, you want to eradicate poverty cos the money would fall from heaven like manna. Una never ready. Keep building castles in the air thinking the government would manufacture money like magic to sort the myriad of problems in Nigeria.

The problem of Nigeria is basically Nigerians.

The defense of people who support that statement is we need to look inwardly and produce locally. I agree with that.

But it cannot happen overnight. And a president cannot say he wants to be oblivious of that fact.

Everything we need, we want to produce, and even the means to produce it depends majorly on the exchange rate.

Construction companies will bill you in dollars to fix roads
Power generation and the equipments will be sourced abroad. You must pay in foreign currency.

Saying you are not concerned is like losing touch with reality

Bros theres no magic wand that will reduce the exchange rate. In fact the best thing the CBN can do is to actually float the naira. Let people who need dollar get it at the true value. BTA and PTA should be abolished. The CBN cant keep subsidizing the rich with the scarce foreign exchange we have.

All form of subsidies on the foreign exchange should be removed from education to pilgrimage and let everyone go sort for their dollar at the true market rate.

A reasonable President will be concerned about the purchasing power of the naira, someone earning in naira and spending in naira major concern should be the purchasing power of the naira. What we have is dollarisation of the economy and it won't end well. No reasonable country.

The only thing that will boost the naira is for our revenue (in dollars) to increase. If this country will have any chance of survival, we will move away from an importing country to an exporting one. Till then we will keep chasing shadows.

My stance is that we need to change parties so they can actually sit up. Rewarding failure with more work will leave us worse than before.

This is valid.

If you feel a party has not done well, vote them out. It's one reason why everyone must be fully involved in the electioneering process.

I don’t think u have a full grasp of what is the issue here . This is not Eco 102( Intro to Macroeconomics) , we are talking real live scenarios here.

U talk about double tax on the rich but it’s already happening maybe u don’t know . If u want to buy a a rolls Royce of 100m now , be rest assured u will pay imports duty of N70m which puts the cost price of the vehicle at N170m cos luxury vehicles are cleared at the customs for 70% of the value of such item. (That’s why u see people like Davido lamenting when they have their luxury vehicles shipped down here ) .

Places like Lagos, homeowners are already used to paying land use charge which the government collects directly . Even rich folks who own large companies pay corporate income tax like they ought to with FIRS always shinning touch for every corner. I don’t know about this more taxation u are talking about.

What I think u should be clamoring for is reduction in government spendings on political office holders . Mudashiru Obasa the speaker of Lagos state house of assembly practically collected money to go for a programme in Turkey along with six members of the house ; only for him to go to the country with a lawmaker to buy furniture with that money cheesy

Our politicians have tens of SUV’s in their convoy bought with tax payers money carrying practically nobody ….. Our lawmakers get paid ridiculous amounts as allowances yet they’ve not been able to delibrate on issues and come up with legislations that will move the country forward.

If any Nigerian government follows this ur advice of more taxation in light of this current economic realities , the government will not only have increase in crime rate to deal with, but a possible revolution that will take the survival of the country with it .

I believe, theres no two ways about it, we will definitely suffer for all the missed opportunities that we have had to diversify the economy. With the kind if population we have, we should have different manufacturing and industrial hubs all over the country.

We have arable lands to grow what we eat. More than 70% of the population spend most of their earnings on food. We have to move from subsistence farming to large scale farming that can quickly make us self sustaining in agricultural produce.

If you check our inflation indices, you will see that price of food stuff is one of the major cause that drive our inflation. We must look for a way to increase the purchasing power of the naira and one way that it will be evident is in the prices of food items.
