Hermes is that guy that has literally faced a lot of disappointments but still believes strongly in himself and I love that energy!

We teased each other over various physical attributes and it was all fun at the end of the day. To this day, some people are still being referred to by the nicknames they got as kids as a result of one physical attribute or another.

Granted, some of those teases were really mean but we learnt on time that there's really nothing you could do about it other than fighting the person/s teasing you if you can, or reporting the person/s to an authority figure, or just simply find a way to tease back.

So that's why for someone to tell me that because their teacher called her ọkụkụ ọcha like 20 years ago and she still cannot outgrow the "trauma" really sounds more than strange to me.

Nengi really messed up that guy. Ozo that any lady would rush to have. I noticed that Nengi is a straight up manipulator and gaslighter at the same time. People are too soft these days because they know what all those insults from childhood did to them as adults, they know how much it depleted them and they would rather not mete out the same to the younger people of today.

I watched a video of a 70+ woman, who said that as a child, she once tried on her mother's make-up in excitement, and although she thought she looked pretty, only for her mother to see her, and snidely tell her she looked like a clown with all that make-up. She said it's been almost 60 years since that day, and she rarely puts on make-up, because everytime she does, she thinks of those words.

You're speaking on something that happened to someone as a child. Those teachers have probably forgotten they even met her or said such to her, but see how she still remembers it. Thankfully, she has been able to get over it as an adult, but there may be someone else that got that teasing that still has not gotten over it.

The thing with words is that, you can never say how far it will go, or how deeply it hurts. Some people even dey collect from loved ones, so, the self esteem is bad from childhood. The one constant thing in life is change, if you see that something is affecting people negatively as they age, wisdom allows you to change that thing.

I know the kind of ideas I had years ago, that I have had to change, because I realise it may be just words to me, but I may be saying something that reminds someone of a terrible time in their lives.

People are not being soft these days, people are trying to be more human. Yes, this life na dog eat dog and survival of the fittest, but really, basic empathy should not be that hard to find.

If it is not something you absolutely have to say, honestly, just keep it to yourself. That's the only thing. Especially when the person is a child, like, don't comment on children's looks anyhow

There was this statement I made about a celebrity's wife on Nairaland in 2011 or so, the way I feel shame whenever I remember that comment and how ignorant it sounded, it makes me so determined to never say something so awful again.

Growth is an admirable trait, it is a sign that you're actually doing what you're supposed to do in the world. E dey somehow to come back season after season, and people still dey here dey throw about the same insults from 2 or 4 years ago, just a different housemate.
