And on the 8th day, Satan invented manual labour: (Government is not reason... Government is Force!)
Hello. It's been nearly 2 months since I landed and this is an update that I feel dovetails nicely with the recent discussion on government/citizens. Against all advice, I proceeded to do Ogoaja work! I wasn't pressed for cash, as my POF was largely untouched, and accommodation wasn't an urgent concern either, as I still had 2 weeks left at the Airbnb I booked. I had a couple of interviews for desk jobs/customer service lined up but I took the physically-demanding option for character development (make the story for sweet when I dey narrate my own odyssey grin grin) and every day I wonder if I no be suffer-head cause, mehn, the work is hard.
Right from day 1, my employer was very concerned about my safety. 'Take breaks', 'tie your laces', 'don't hurt your back', 'don't carry too much stuff', 'if you need any help, call me' etc etc. I must admit that it was a bit of a culture shock to me. Employer wey send your papa? Chinese employer wey send your papa for ogoaja work?? (My bosses are nice sha. Outside of work, they treat me very nicely too). I couldn't quite wrap my head around it. I also noticed that at every controlled intersection, motorists yielded right of way to me. Every time. 1 polite motorist, I can understand. 10? 20? No problem. But everyone? No na, the story no clear. I also walk past construction sites/projects daily and the safety routine is the same. Bright vests, hard hats, work-boots etc etc. When you factor in the complete absence of police officers in my area, you begin to wonder if you're in a simulation or na real-life. So I did some investigation and it finally made sense to me. I'll use an example to illustrate my findings.

Scenario: Worker at a construction site isn't wearing a hard-hat, safety shoes and bright-coloured vests.

Step 1:
Nigerian response: It's just another day at the office.
Toronto response: One passerby who doesn't know or care about the site and will probably forget about the site in 2 seconds flat calls the authorities.
Step 2
Nigerian response: Local government council comes to spray 'stop work' on your fence. You go to the office and settle the matter.
Toronto response: Government official comes. God wants to punish you that day so 2 more workers are in the same situation as worker 1. Official asks to see foreman. With a smile, "ogbeni ona don enter my hand today". Politely engages with foreman, shows remarkable empathy when foreman explains that rising costs of safety gear mean some folks don't have but they'll get it today, talks about inflation and how hard things are with foreman before proceeding to give foreman a ticket: safety shoes - $380, hat - $250, vest - $190, safety rope - $100. For each worker. Then the company pays the same amount. For each worker. All of a sudden your staring a $5000+ bill that you must pay or you'll face even stiffer punishment all because Ciroma, Chukwuma and Adekunle refused to wear safety gear. Errhm, don't try to settle with the official cos na prison straight. Just respect yourself and pay to the government account.

If you drive like Dominic Torreto and cause accident, you're finished. Jam person for road e no die? You're finished. The person die? Finished. Wound person intentionally or through negligence? You better have a good lawyer cause that lawsuit go bloody. In short, every offence has a ridiculously high fine attached to it.

It isn't kindness that makes the system here work. It is the fear of the government. The fear of consequences that come when you fall on the wrong side of the law. The laws are designed to milk you dry with draconian fines if you offend and if you can't pay, or you're a serial repeat-offender, na prison straight. The government officials I've observed do not hate or love you, they feel your pain but are remorseless when it comes to punishing offenders. That's why the mantra here appears to be 'Ija wa, Ija osi... always guiding' which roughly translates to 'bro, err on the side of caution.'
Having said that, if you obey the law, nobody send you for here o! Just paro lo!!
I am waiting for people that understand this your writing to explain, good morning this early morning.

I so love this wink
You could not have put it any better. It's good to be kind and everyone should be, but it's not kindness that makes a good society, squarely because, left to humans, nobody will be kind. Everyone will seek to take serious advantage where they can and they'll still claim they are kind while at it. They'll take your biscuit, tell you not to complain, and claim they did it in your favour because they are kind. But when the government cracks down in all ways, it will motivate that necessary kindness in people and they will become kind by force. You wrote beautifully.

PPR is finally here...class of 2020

AOR - March 2020

Passed Medicals - May 2020

Biometrics - May 2020

LONG SILENCE!!!

Got married in November 2020 and added my spouse in December 2020. She passed medicals in April 2021.

My newborn arrived in March 2021. I sent numerous webforms to IRCC to inform them. He was finally added in September 2021. I also attached updated proof of funds. I used Piggyvest and 25% pension for the proof of funds, even though the funds in my Piggyvest account were sufficient.

LONG SILENCE!!!

Request for Medicals for New born - February 2022

Request for Re-med for me - March 2022

Request for Re-med for spouse - April 2022. She already did up-front medicals before the IRCC request and I had to call them directly to recognise the upfront medicals after sending about 5 webforms without receiving any response. Upfront medicals was finally updated in late April

ADR - PCC and Form A - April 2022. We uploaded the documents on 6 May 2022.

PPR - Today, 13 June 2022. My mind was doing gbim gbim I was logging into my profile to check the mail from IRCC. Lo and behold, it was the much awaited PPR.

COPR is here finally
Dropped off Passports at DHL Lagos - 20 June
Arrived at Lagos VAC - 22 June
Dispatched to Accra VAC - 22 June
Received at Accra VAC - 28 June
Received at Accra Visa Office - 6 July
Decision Envelope Received at Lagos VAC - 29 July
Counterfoil Email - 29 July
Passport delivered to us - 2 August

There were no email updates on when the processed passports were sent back to Ghana VAC and from Ghana VAC to Lagos VAC.

The process took about 6 weeks. So if you are really in a hurry to travel, I suggest you try other VOs.

SUCCESS to everybody hoping to relocate to Canada and CONGRATULATIONS to those already here.

Briefly, let me share some important info/update necessary to know while you plan to come or already landed.

PREPARE
While waiting for PPR, get yourself ready by asking relevant questions about your desired place of residence (Province and City). Ask about skills that sells, nature of living, relevant jobs but please never listen to people who tell you about security, dish washing and cleaning. I am not saying these are bad jobs but trying to let you know these set of ppl may have missed opportunities and may never know what the land is full of by believing your skills, experiences and studies in Nigeria won't land you a professional job.

Prepare by learning IT skills or other skills set you already researched about, check job descriptions, get yourself an eye catching Resume that will attract the attention of hirers and keep learning those skills listed you don't have. If you do not already know how to drive a car, get some driving lessons and be acquainted with the best principle of driving ing so you do not have to spend so much learning to drive here. Tutors charge btw C$50 to C$100 (#26,000 to #52,000)per hour whereas you can get a tutor driving school in Nigeria for less than #50,000.

When you get you PPR, do not forget to get enough soup and stew spices. Get food stuffs that you won't have to spend too much on, African food is not so cheap hence you don't want to be spending most of your naira as you arrive.

Not all clothes you wore in Nigeria you need to bring here. Select a few but do not forget winter clothes of you are coming in winter. 1 or 2 Winter jacket and some sweaters is enough so you won't take all the space in your luggage.

NB: Buy a digital scale that will help you measure your bags as you plan. This is to avoid embarrassing moments or having to pay extra for things you could have let go.

.The four bolded are what I would love you to throw more light on.
Firstly, IT Skills. What are the general IT skills that you would encourage anyone to learn? In addition, would you suggest that skills such as electrical ,plumbing ,tailoring ,hair-making and other related skills are learnt? if yes, what advantages would they confer on the learner?

Secondly,Skills that sells..Please what do you mean by this?

Thirdly, getting enough soup and stew spices and ,food stuffs .Do you suggest that one cargo food stuffs such as yams, beans, garri ,Ofada rice ,Dry pepper ,flour ,locust beans, red oil and some related products in large quantities. IS the cost of cargo worth it?

Fourthly ,buying a digital scale. Where exactly can one get the most accurate digital scale? What kind of bags do you think one should use to cargo the goods and for boarding?

In conclusion, for clothing. Assuming one is not coming in winter.Do you think it is ok to come with a lot of clothes?

Does anybody know about this agency and it they are to be trusted? And also how long does it take for everything to pull through? Please I need as much response as possible. Thanks

You only need one response, which you may not like.

Stay away from agents who come with beautiful promises of work visas. 9 out of 10 times, they're not really whom they say they are.

Very apt. The fear of consequences is what makes the system work. For instance, a sexual offender can't earn any meaningful living even after serving prison sentence because almost every job requires a background check. Canada has very strong institutions.

Good Day everyone,
my wife did her police report in March when she visited Nigeria
Can she still use the report after the stipulated 3 months validity for her application?
N.B- She is in Canada and intends to put in her application for PR this month.

If she cant use it, is it possible to get another Police Report in Absentia?

Please I need help.

My husband seized my Visa and COPR so I’m unable to travel.

I am heavy and due to travel in August with my ticket already booked.

He has travelled already and he took my passport with visa and my COPR and cut off communication with me. He never even allowed me see the COPR cos he had his plans so now I’m stranded in Nigeria and need help on what to do.

Please how do I go about retrieving these documents from IRCC?

A little background:

own.
Chai, I came late sha.

To the general public: You may not agree with my post however don’t be unfortunate to quote me to force your opinion down my throat.

Madam! You are too soft! Seeing your post as far back as 2020, this dude has been a pain in your butt. Start with giving him an ultimatum to return those documents and if he doesn’t listen, let him know the saying hell hath no fury than a woman scorned is real and not just a saying. Start with writing a detailed letter to IRCC and Nigerian immigration service about your ordeal and how he travelled to Canada with your passport and COPR. Already seizing someone’s passport is already a criminal offense. If he is adamant on keeping the passport, do everything within your power to get his narcissistic butt back to the trenches that he belongs to ( If you would do this, be done with that marriage, file for divorce and forget going to Canada as a dependent and find a way to apply on your own to any country of your choice). Whenever he lands back in Nigeria, arrest him and keep him there for 3 months at least! Make him pay through his nose for being a wicked fellow. Enough listening to all those giving you patriarchal advice. One that hasn’t helped you since 2020. How long do you want to keep enduring this emotional abuse? Fight for yourself! You are better off single and happy than being married to this monster you described.

There is a lady on Canada called 9jaladyinCanada on instagram, you can send your story to her if you want wider views, let her post it and you will get more insights from Nigerians living in Canada.

Got our stamped passports yesterday

Chenkes:
Wow. Part 11 already!!!.

I stopped coming here after IRCC almost gave me high BP. It would be remiss of me not to post the below, as every single information I used for this process was from this thread. From IELTS tips, to ECA guide, to submitting my profile, to adoption of my kids and their inclusion in my profile, submitting my application and all.

I read every single page from Part 1 to 8 or thereabout.

See timeline below:

Decision to Travel: 2016. I didn't have up to 3yrs experience and was still running my M.sc so I decided to wait. Used the wait period to read every single thread from Part 1 created by Zandora. I even read the very first thread from Solomonwis.
1st IELTS: April 2018
3rd IELTS: January 2020
ECA: March 2020. Unilag used almost a year to send my transcript. I was too busy to follow up in person.
Entered the pool: March 2020
1st ITA: 5 Aug 2020. Declined the ITA on the last day for submission i.e. 5 November
2nd ITA: 5 November 2020
Medicals: 13 Nov 2020. Medicals finally passed in January 2021. Had to go for multiple additional tests and see specialists for one of my kids.
AOR: 24 Dec 2020
Eligibility Passed: February 2021
Biometrics Completed: 3 Feb 2021
Upfront Remed, PCC and Schedule A: 17 March 2022. Sent all 3 docs to all VOs whose email address I could lay my hands on. Raised multiple webforms as well.
Remed Passed: 31 March 2022
GU: 28 April 2022
Sent IRCC and every email I could find an emotionally blackmailing mail: 9 June 2022
GU - Background check changed to we are processing (they finally started it): 14 June 2022
Another GU (nothing changed): 15 June 2022
Sent everybody in copy of my previous mail a thank you message: 16 June 2022
1st PPR: 17 June 2022
2nd PPR: 22 June 2022

VO: Ottawa

I started this journey alone 6years ago. I ended it with 3 children. The fear of medical inadmissibility stopped me from applying or taking a step until 2018 when it was reviewed.

Thank you Lord!!!!

For everyone still on this process, hang in there!!!. There is light at the end of the tunnel.
