I feel ASUU are too self centered, the economy situations all over the world do not support such bogus requests at this umpteenth time. ASUU has never fought for the welfare of Nigerian students since i was born all they always ask for is salary, salary and salary increment. Let them resign in droves, we've got many brighter minds out there looking for opportunities.

Get your facts right! This is the second time ASUU is seeking salary increment in Nigeria. Apart from 1992 which wasn't granted, the second time is now which isn't granted.

As we speak, they are paid the salary structure of 2009. Which year are we now?!!!

Can you send your kids to public primary or secondary school? You would rather send them to private school and pay huge amount just because Government failed in funding public schools

The plan is to employ a new crop of lecturers with little to no experience and low-ball them, further worsening the quality of education in the public higher institutions of the country, and thereby further enslaving us the more.
Eventually most companies abroad that rush for our products would look elsewhere and we'll all become stuck in this country.
I really don't envy this generation at all.
They've really cheated them to the marrow.
Make I begin aggressive savings, japa comot this dilapidated building called Nigeria before it caves in on me.
Meanwhile Happy Birthday to me.
Thank you Nairaland for reminding me.

These lecturers are overestimating their importance. BTW, what have they done differently over the past decades?

What research studies have Nigerian lecturers pioneered that we have used to improve this country significantly?

Isn't it the same lecturers that still teach Fortran and QBasic in computer classes while the rest of the world is talking Python and Solidity?

Sometimes, your employer does not give you everything, but you make personal sacrifices to stand out in your job. This is something a Nigerian never understands.

These are audio resignations. ASUU is only raising the alarm to coerce the FG into doing their biddings. Perhaps they went on vacations till their demands are met by the FG. The lecturers have more to gain than just quitting.
Yeah , you are 100% right

There's a high brain-drain in the country in the last 7 years cry Not just okay mehn but you don't blame those involved.

That's why 80 per cent solution to the Nigeria's problems is electing Obi|Datti in the 2023 presidential election

It's not a lie, sir. They're using the UK education policy to enrol into 1 year Masters program with Assurances of working for 2years. Most will enrol on phd afterwards to make up the requisite year's of permanent residency application. So no be lie., especially in southern and middle belt universities.

I think at this point FG should pay ASUU the salary arrears since that has always been the culture since ASUU started striking. Besides, it's not like that money would be properly channeled if not paid, it'll still be looted by the corrupt politicians.

What some of us didn't want to hear was that lecturers were getting paid while the students were languishing at home. If they're ready to suspend the strike, then FG should pay them. After all, they need the money to be in the right frame of minds to teach when school resumes. We don't want them transferring the anger on the students if forced to go back to class without pay. The relationship with students was bad on a normal day let alone when they're forced to class without pay. It'll be bloody mehn!

Meanwhile, some of these lecturers are good and I know one in particular (a Prof in UNIBEN) that assist indegent students financially from his little salary. So, because of such Godly lecturers, I pray that God touches the hearts of the president and ministers to release their salaries and do the needful to end this strike....Amen
Which culture .Cant culture be stop ?

It will be wicked of any one to say what ASUU is doing is wrong. The government is wicked. They bought cars for Niger. They gave BA cash worth billions to sustain their operations because that's the airline they use when jetting out of the country. They gave katsina 6.25billion for cattle ranches. Other country employs our professionals uet we dont value them. Government officials take home is fat. This is why our education system has been rubbished. Their children go abroad yo study. They lecturers are peoples father and bread winners. Why can't govt make things right and our educational system becomes great and juicy for people to join as a career. Nigerians, vote wisely please and let's make Nigeria a better place to leave. Thanks

So other functions of government should stop just because of ASUU?

ASUU should be proscribe..... Or universities should be privatize or giving to States.

All these media antics against the federal government has failed.

The over 2.3 trillion they re requesting is not to build infrastructure, it is solely for them to share into their respective accounts.

During my university days, from 400 level, the three professors that was supposed to lecture us came only once or twice a whole semester. Gave us handout and ask us to read, at the end, one gave all of us "A"

Give the universities to states that are struggling with their own universities and also unable to pay N30k minimum wage?

You call an agitation that started in 2009 media antics?

Are you the Accountant General of the Fed. to arrive at N2.3T?

Why not be truthful for once and face a theiving generation of leaders including the one that stole a whole N109b and is now asking.for plea bargain. Or perhaps, a Minister who spent billions feeding.childten during Covid-19 period?.

The brain drain Nigeria is currently experiencing is alarming. I personally know at least 6 lecturers who have relocated to the UK and Canada. Even Uganda, Ethiopia and Kenya are currently recruiting Nigeria academicians. Professors who are supposed to be mentoring young lecturers are leaving the country in droves. Don't be surprised if school resumes and more than half of university lecturers are out leaving massive vacuum that will take this country decades to fill. It is well.

Cc: seun, lalasticlala mynd44
Not just lecturers, but in every field. Banks now are having problems running their servers. Fraud has risen, people complain they face delays in getting refunds. Airline industry collapsing, emirates has stopped, other airlines are charging a premium due to high risk, aviation fuel, diesel etc outrageously priced. Nigerians now have to go to ghana, Togo etc to fly!
See education, if you cannot pay private uni fees, your kids will be at home! What then happens to the poor masses?
There is nothing apc has not destroyed. Anyone that votes apc again including Tinubu that brought this calamity to fufll his personal ambition, deserves what ever they get.

. The government would employ another lecturers to replace those that resigned their appointments. If doctors and nurses go abroad lecturers can do so! What do expect when a union is proving inevitable in a country. SANU and NASU have called off their strike They will continue to negotiate the payment if their outstanding salaries. Government will pay them . The only concern I have is students at home who are victims of the strike. Enough of ASU excesses!
