In a sane society, the ideal thing to do in such a situation is to tell the driver to come down off the wheels and join the police vehicle while an officer trail behind in the suspect's vehicle to the station. What Paul Okoye said is true, most times when an officer joins a suspect in his/her vehicle is to negotiate and compromise. Force hierarchy might or might not be ignorant of this.

P never condoned driving without a license. Here's what he said:

"As long as a policeman enters my car and tells me to drive, he's a criminal or kidnapper."

He did tacitly by not mentioning anything of the error done by the rapper.

No where in the world will a police officer suspecting criminality will non chalantly enter your vehicle and tell you to be drive him to the station. It's the height of stupidity. You can kill him on the way and claim self defense since he was with a gun.

How is a search conducted in a car, if a policeman cannot get in?

The driver will get out of the car while the search is on.
That is, the driver steps out and the PO do the search.

How do they take your car away?

By towing right?

Depending on how the towing is to he done, he'll get in your car.

The minute a policeman has probable cause to stop your car, he can search it.

One way to search is by getting in the car.

In Nigeria, the police are not as adequately kitted but enforcement could include officer getting in your car as it is taken for an impound or whilst you are under arrest.

You are arguing off point bro.

Nobody said they can search your can by entering it.
The point is, you won't be inside at the driver seat, you would be asked to step out or forced(in other scenario) out and they will go in and search OR tow the vehicle to their place for proper check.

In all these, one thing is common, which is the driver is not on driving seat or inside the car while they do search inside.

There are various phases involved in a stop or arrest or search.

If you as much as make the wrong point with your rear light, a police officer can stop your car.

Once he does so, he would likely run a tag on your car to know its status and owner.

On questioning you whilst outside of your car, your response can lead to an escalation.

If for instance your licence is expired or you have none, an arrest can be made.

Not only that, he can now have the right for a search based on a probable cause.

The search might involve said police officer making an entry into your vehicle.

It might also involve a k9 unit.

Scenarios make for compliance.

The above is for many parts of the US.

Point I still maintain from the beginning is Nigerians would abide by any law in a foreign land but in Nigeria everyone is above the norm.

Stop already abeg, don't argue off point.

No one said a search can't be made, no one said an arrest can't be made.

Read their points well before you reply and not just rushing to reply.

See above.

Your response above is out of context.

Can a PO in the State search your car why you're seating inside at the drivers seat?
Can a PO in the States force open your car and seat with you and tell you "Oga/Madam, oya drive to the station?"

A policeman would get into your car depending on the scenario.

Stop misleading the ignorant.
Get into your car for what, why? Or are you talking about in Nigearia, because definitely not in the western country.

Why are you repeating what I said?

If there's probable cause, an officer can enter a car.

He is not repeating what you said.

He said the occupant will be ordered out, while you said they will enter with the occupant inside.

They are two different scenarios.

To the the commenter above, you can't subject Nigerian police to the method of foreign police that you claim to have seen on you tube.

The police in Europe or America have more operational options in this sort of situation. They can radio for support & within minutes, additional police personnel will arrive at the scene, with a tow vehicle not far behind.

Nigerian police simply don't have these options.

They could have arrested this musician, take him to the station in their own car, and left his car at the scene until the next day. However, this could result in serious traffic in the morning. Worse still, the car could be stolen overnight, resulting in multi million naira liability for the police.

If they arrest the guy, and drive his car to the station themselves, you people will call them unprofessional and oppressive. Also, what happens if there's an accident while the police are driving his car?

So, really, the police is left to take the less-than-ideal but reasonable option of mandating the guy to drive them in his car to the station where he can be properly 'processed.'

Nigerian law doesn't forbid the police from proceeding in this manner.

Chai... Nigerians are suffering from Stockholm syndrome.
You guys like strongmen-totalitarian government.

Even you are beginning to give one.

I'm sure you can give a few more if you think.

What he meant by immediate threat to life is in situation of emergency like seizures, and other health issues that render the driver unconscious, but in a situation where the driver is conscious and maybe is wielding a weapon etc, he would first be unharmed(dont ask me how), then dragged out and any search can be done.

Keyword in the first instance is the driver is unconscious and his life is threatened.
That is life-saving act, even other road users can enter at that point, don't be mischevious please.

See, people like you, there is no excuse - because you have thousands of videos of police stopping cars on YouTube. Give us a link of ONE where police jumped into someone's car as Nigerian Police habitually do

The operating procedures of police commands differ by countries, there are also some similarities

Ogah every society has a way of dealing with things. The fact that they don't just jump into one's car in developed countries doesn't necessarily mean its unethical to do so.

Agreed.

Let's be honest though, one is more likely to comply with a kidnapper than the NPF.

Nigerians look down on the forces because they are badly paid, badly equipped and desperate.
The Nigerian policemen, right from the onset had had their name(NPF) soiled and ridiculed due to their sheer unprofessionalism in the discharge of their duties. I've had series of encounter with their sheer stupidity and unprofessionalism.
