While I agree with you partly, I disagree in parts.

Firstly, while I do believe some form of spending problem through some misappropriation, our journey problem is revenue problem. Our revenue is too small to match our population needs and infrastructural development. Our public infrastructure alone needs about 50 billion dollars to upgrade to acceptable standards. When you check our yearly budget, you will notice that our recurrent expenditure is eating up the biggest part of the budget which shouldn't be so. We are currently not generating enough money to service our needs as a nation.

Secondly, I do not believe subsidy is a wastage, for a country with a lot poor citizens, it will be suicidal for any govt to yank of subsidies especially on fuel and chaos will not follow. What is happening with Jet A1 and diesel price should give you an idea of what the country will turn to the moment subsidy is removed.

Thirdly, the National Assembly budget allocation is a first line charge from the federation account and it's the same National Assembly that set their salaries and allowance and they are the one to pass the budget into law and they will be the one to reduce their own budget.

If you check the 2022 budget that was signed into law, the national assembly budget was 120bn out of a 10trillion naira budget. In the same vein, ASUU annual salaries stand at 248 in naira and when you include pensions and gratuities. It moves to around 400bn naira yearly, if Buhari govt approve ASUU demand, it will effective take their salaries alone to half a trillion naira annually and almost a trillion naira when you include pension and gratuities. Same thing for the military. The Army current salary stands at over 400bn annually alone, when you add all the other armed forces, you will be getting close to over a trillion naira in salary for the Armed forces.

Just for emphasis sake, ASUU and the Armed forces already take close to 2 trillion naira in salaries, pensions and gratuities out of a 10 trillion budget and we still have alot of parastatal and agencies that we haven't touched.

Let's not also forget that out of 10 trillion naira budget is even a deficit budget, meaning we will still have to borrow to fully finance the budget.

Lastly, on the issue of tax, it's your civil responsibility to pay tax and demand accountability from the govt on how your tax is being spent, if you are not satisfied with how your tax is been spent, you vote them out. You cannot refuse to pay tax because you dont trust the govt.
