naijaboy99: So what exactly is your problem on what they save or cannot save? Why disturb yourself over things that doesn't concern you? You guys should find something more productive to talk about with your time instead of chasing people abroad savings like it matters to you. Some of you are richer than Nigerians abroad so why the brouhaha? 8 Likes |

naijaboy99: You're missing the point bro, the renumeration for these kinds of jobs are meagre. And also, Nigeria doesn't run a hourly wage system, so it will amount to nothing, if you do these jobs. And also to note. Working in between jobs in not flexible in nigeria, one reason because we are paid at the end of each month. So you're basically tied down to one work, even if you want to hustle like mad. Another thing is, in nigera, whether you're rich or poor, you'll have to pay through your nose to access standard basic amenities. You provide them yourselves. 4 Likes |

hayoholla: You raised a good point. The big difference between developed countries and poor ones is the basic amenities. If the basic amenities are good, many people won’t run out of the country because no matter how small you earn, it will show. Normally, most citizens are supposed to send their kids to public school and not private. Likewise public hospitals likewise low cost housing. All these brings down drastically the cost of living and increases standard of living. Imagine earn 100k per month and your kids school fees is just 4k per kids per term or 3k for baby delivery. Your 100k go show well. Imagine you decided to take a room and parlor low cost housing mortgage for 20 years at 3m. That is 150k per year or 12.5k per month from your salary. It will reduce the pressure of looking for money. A good economy shouldn’t run on big or large cash. Another factor causing this issue is inflation. Because our inflation is very high, all I listed above can’t work because it is not sustainable 14 Likes 2 Shares |

naijaboy99: You're just arguing on something that doesn't concern you, honestly. Many people travel for so many reasons. Check your leaders, they all have one thing in common, which is they have all left the shores of this country at one point or the other in their lives. Mr XYZ is from a moderate home(you know what I mean), after school he worked a little before starting his own business, now he has a growing business that can give him a comfortable life, but he still want to grow it to ensure total financial freedom but due to lack of funding the rate at which the biz grows is not what he planned. Having set up the biz to a good level where any good manager or business-oriented person can handle and run it successfully and progressively, he decided to further his education where he stopped few years ago(from BSc to MSc outside) and also hustle further while there, which will also give him a very needed opportunity of sending funds to his people back home to grow the business at home, build homes, invest etc as the case may be, while he also makes a new living for himself outside there. Mr XYZ now lives and hustle in his new country, his business here is now handled and managed successfully and progressively by a trusted person. If you observe well, you will see that Mr XYZ has defeated poverty in his life and that of his family totally. He may not even come back to take back the business because he is doing well where he is now. Now, let me ask you... What do you think his family will think of him whenever his thought comes to any of their minds? What will his kids and wife think about him whenever the thought of their dad comes to any of their minds? Do you think they will be happy with him later on when someone hint them that their dad ignored the chance of traveling out some years ago because of reason like yours? To some the goal is to defeat poverty from their lineage, to some it is to get pleasurez good life and other things, to some it is to raise needed funds for whatever plan they have and so on. Your reasoning is a one-way reasoning. I would have used myself as an example here but this is a faceless forum, I wont do that. 6 Likes |

Ekpekus: Hmmmmmmm…. This I think the money they are remitting home is more or less for their own personal projects like buying land, building it than giving. With the way they hustle, I don’t expect them to give out more than 10-20% of what they send home. |

emmaodet:Someone added a link to how much was remitted in just the 1st quarter of 2022. Irrespective of what it is for, the beneficiary are Nigerians in Nigeria in the long run. And the economy also benefit greatly from the remittance. Now imagine, abroadians keep this money in the countries where they reside. How e go be? 6 Likes |

Ekpekus: Well, if they keep it there, it will affect our economy no doubt. Also, a chunk of the money remitted back are also non-oil/agro commodities exported that the dollars needs to find it’s way back to nigeria. Many people don’t even know that there is massive exporting going on daily at the cargo terminals in Lagos and kano and exporters cashing in big time. I know of a man in my area exporting 5000 liters of natural african honey to UK and his money has to find a way back to nigeria as remittance too. The CBN doesn’t care whether it is an exporter or Nigerians abroad sending the money, all they know is that so so so and so money flowed back into the economy from so so period, to so so period. All CBN knows is that within a time frame, an amount of dollars entered a particular number of domiciliary accounts. 2 Likes |
