Nobody is envy of anyone. I am just stating the obvious fact. We also spend billions migrating there and putting more billions in their economy working there. We also spend billions here buying their imported goods. Thanks

So what exactly is your problem on what they save or cannot save? Why disturb yourself over things that doesn't concern you?
You guys should find something more productive to talk about with your time instead of chasing people abroad savings like it matters to you. Some of you are richer than Nigerians abroad so why the brouhaha?

now you see what I am talking about? Why don't we all shut down our Whatsapp and get to work three or more jobs. You don't care to be security in Nigeria but choose to be security or barber in Nigeria? What about after closing from you 6k carpentry daily work in Nigeria you go to your 2k daily work security in a bank(not adding tips in both jobs) That's 8k daily. Total for a month will come at almost 250k. Millions of Nigerians don't know it is possible to make over 400k monthly here doing regular hustle. All they know is Nigeria is dead and I must japa. Thanks for your contribution though

You're missing the point bro, the renumeration for these kinds of jobs are meagre. And also, Nigeria doesn't run a hourly wage system, so it will amount to nothing, if you do these jobs. And also to note. Working in between jobs in not flexible in nigeria, one reason because we are paid at the end of each month. So you're basically tied down to one work, even if you want to hustle like mad. Another thing is, in nigera, whether you're rich or poor, you'll have to pay through your nose to access standard basic amenities. You provide them yourselves.

I think that is the reason why many are angry with the question

You raised a good point.
The big difference between developed countries and poor ones is the basic amenities.
If the basic amenities are good, many people won’t run out of the country because no matter how small you earn, it will show.
Normally, most citizens are supposed to send their kids to public school and not private. Likewise public hospitals likewise low cost housing.
All these brings down drastically the cost of living and increases standard of living.
Imagine earn 100k per month and your kids school fees is just 4k per kids per term or 3k for baby delivery.
Your 100k go show well.
Imagine you decided to take a room and parlor low cost housing mortgage for 20 years at 3m. That is 150k per year or 12.5k per month from your salary.
It will reduce the pressure of looking for money.
A good economy shouldn’t run on big or large cash.
Another factor causing this issue is inflation.
Because our inflation is very high, all I listed above can’t work because it is not sustainable

You're just arguing on something that doesn't concern you, honestly.

Many people travel for so many reasons.

Check your leaders, they all have one thing in common, which is they have all left the shores of this country at one point or the other in their lives.

Mr XYZ is from a moderate home(you know what I mean), after school he worked a little before starting his own business, now he has a growing business that can give him a comfortable life, but he still want to grow it to ensure total financial freedom but due to lack of funding the rate at which the biz grows is not what he planned.
Having set up the biz to a good level where any good manager or business-oriented person can handle and run it successfully and progressively, he decided to further his education where he stopped few years ago(from BSc to MSc outside) and also hustle further while there, which will also give him a very needed opportunity of sending funds to his people back home to grow the business at home, build homes, invest etc as the case may be, while he also makes a new living for himself outside there.
Mr XYZ now lives and hustle in his new country, his business here is now handled and managed successfully and progressively by a trusted person.
If you observe well, you will see that Mr XYZ has defeated poverty in his life and that of his family totally.
He may not even come back to take back the business because he is doing well where he is now.

Now, let me ask you...

What do you think his family will think of him whenever his thought comes to any of their minds?
What will his kids and wife think about him whenever the thought of their dad comes to any of their minds?
Do you think they will be happy with him later on when someone hint them that their dad ignored the chance of traveling out some years ago because of reason like yours?

To some the goal is to defeat poverty from their lineage, to some it is to get pleasurez good life and other things, to some it is to raise needed funds for whatever plan they have and so on.

Your reasoning is a one-way reasoning. I would have used myself as an example here but this is a faceless forum, I wont do that.

Not possible. Let me break it down for you. If I work as a driver in Nigeria from morning till night I should be able to make 21k daily for 8hrs. Take out fuel money of 4k daily that brings the amount down to 17k. Then I am expected to eat outside thrice in a day. Let's use 700naira per meal (which you know is very low) that's another 2k off. Then I drink two bottles of beer and end my day with 14k. Then in America let's work with your $120 daily after tax. Average meal is $10 so that's 30usd off. Unlike Nigeria where 2days hustle can pay my monthly rent in Canada you pay like $1,200 for a room that's like $40 daily. That's remaining $50. If we follow your calculation of $160 daily before tax that means such person is expected to bring in 48,000CAD before tax. That's like making 63,000CAD annually before tax. 90% of Nigerians in Canada don't make that money. Might even be 95%
Where you dey get these stat from? I really want to know. If from your write up, you claimed, you want us to learn, then reference these things.

Bro, I don’t have problem with those traveling because at the end of the day, we all are migrants but what I don’t like is the currency conversion and comparison.

One thing I noticed about Nigerians abroad is that once they get there, they put down all egos are hustle crazily something they hardly do here.
You see people putting in 15-18 hours into working / doing double shit jobs or combining it with schooling. These are things they will hardly do here at home.
They push themselves to the LIMIT. I mean it is damn Crazy.
The person here going to school in the morning by 8 and coming back 2/4pm and then start chasing women around or watching ball or wasting the rest time in church all of a sudden will go to US or Canada and in the next 6 months won’t even have time for a woman not to talk of relationship.
Pushing himself to the limit.
My uncle is in Dubai complaining that he drives between 16-18 hours per day. Damnnnnnnnn
18 hours per day on the road yet when he was driving for FC Ebede in nigeria, he will only drive for 6 hours and the rest time at home or sitting in his wife shop.
Another funny thing is the way they live like a miser.
A person claiming he can’t stay in a face me I slap you in nigeria all of a sudden doesn’t see anything bad in staying in a small studio in abroad or sharing an apartment or bunk sef.
All of a sudden, a woman can now hustle and co-finance and sharing bills abroad while she is also putting in crazy time in working.
A woman that won’t work here citing she is taking care of babies or not her duty to spend on the family suddenly is hustling despite having kids and sharing bills.
Any man who works 8 to 2/5pm in nigeria after that picks a bike and go hustle extra in nigeria till 10pm while his wife hustle crazily from 8 to 5pm too in nigeria and while doing all this are staying in a face you I slap you apartment will save heavily also here.

@ Treadway ….. this is my reply to my mention.
hmm, you’re very intelligent. You sounds like someone that reads a lot..

Somehow you are on point. I was amazed when i discovered an akara seller at T-Junnction close to my office makes 50,000 naira averagely everyday. This akara lady is a graduate of accounting. I then understood why she refused white collar jobs. There is money in Nigeria ohh. How many immigrant in canada make 50k daily? Canada is overrated and overhyped.
See, the day people abroad stop remitting money back home, you will understand they can actually save alot of money.

OP, where is the statistic (link/website?) supporting your assertion that most of the Nigerians in Canada cannot save $30 per day? You say 90 -95%. Did you get this information from the government of Canada or government of America?

Without being baised and in trying to maintain this discussion neutrally, others have shared their own opinions alluding to the fact that it is indeed possible to save even more than $30 a day in Canada and in US and even beyond.

People have highlighted the same hustle spirit that is present in Nigerians in Nigeria and Nigerians abroad as being responsible for their ability to save this much and more. Why are you choosing to ignore that but hell bent on driving your point across board. Thats not how to have a healthy conversation (please note, I haven't insulted you, so please bear that in mind, if and when you respond)

Above all this, the metrics from the UN,TI, UNICEF etc. on the standard of living is clear for referencing. GDP, access to healthcare, ease of doing business, standard of living, poverty index, corruption perception indices and so on. Just look at the positions of Nigeria relative to America and Canada. It is not the akara seller at the junction or the tipper driver's daily savings that shoulf be used to judge.

Finally, smart Nigerians that we are, dey no dey tell us for obodo sey we go need to add one or two more jobs to augment things, if the bird wey we get for hand never worth one for bush. If the first job can't give the room to make such savings (no reliable data to even support but lets just say for OPs sake), then you find that these so called people (the 90-95% of Nigerians) may then work an additional job or two to make those savings.

How can I like this more than once? Well spelt out. Make op bring stats and links, so that we all learn. Abi nor be so?

Hmmmmmmm…. This I think the money they are remitting home is more or less for their own personal projects like buying land, building it than giving.
With the way they hustle, I don’t expect them to give out more than 10-20% of what they send home.

Someone added a link to how much was remitted in just the 1st quarter of 2022. Irrespective of what it is for, the beneficiary are Nigerians in Nigeria in the long run. And the economy also benefit greatly from the remittance. Now imagine, abroadians keep this money in the countries where they reside. How e go be?

Well, if they keep it there, it will affect our economy no doubt.
Also, a chunk of the money remitted back are also non-oil/agro commodities exported that the dollars needs to find it’s way back to nigeria.
Many people don’t even know that there is massive exporting going on daily at the cargo terminals in Lagos and kano and exporters cashing in big time.
I know of a man in my area exporting 5000 liters of natural african honey to UK and his money has to find a way back to nigeria as remittance too.
The CBN doesn’t care whether it is an exporter or Nigerians abroad sending the money, all they know is that so so so and so money flowed back into the economy from so so period, to so so period.

All CBN knows is that within a time frame, an amount of dollars entered a particular number of domiciliary accounts.

Same way mechanics... hence in abroad, you see a lot of female mechanics that do the job without stress as everything is with the use of efficient equipment.
