This is extremely impactful and insighful. to serve as a watchword to all the medical aspirants out there @1...viewing from your perspective; elaborating emphatically about how complex a course is, even those in the system(medical students) lament and complain a whole lots pertaining to the versatility of what it entails while others view it as something easy and straightforward. So my curiosity about this is why do some medical student laments about its complexity and why do some dymistify it as a very simple course to study irrespective of what their collegues utters about it
@ 3...what i mean here specifically is physics and chemistry is all about if not all/mostly calculations; is it still applicable till 600level(use physics and chemistry as a refrence point to elucidate/contrast on medical courses not biology)
@6...itemize the hypes most people usually project outside the four walls of medical school and their motives for such comments
I'm sorry this reply came late.

1. Like I said, some medical students might have it harder than others. Medical school is partly about how much info you can retain in a short amount of time. Some find this easy to do while it might take some more time to retain that same info.
But generally,I don't think anyone finds med school as something you can just breeze through.
They may tell you it's easy and they has lots of distinctions, but what they may not tell you is the hours they put in reading, or how their sleep or social life suffered because of medicine.

3. I personally do not see much correlation with physics and chemistry of secondary school to what I'm doing now. I think its a bit like comparing what you did in primary 2 to your jamb syllabus.
It's not about what you knew in secondary school that'll help in med school. Some people that had over 300 in jamb in my school couldn't even proceed to the next level, they repeated and some even withdrew.

6. Well...this one is a bit more personal.
Each to his own.
But generally, people had their own motives for choosing to study medicine.
For some, na their parents hype am for their front.
Some people just like the prestige that comes with it.
Some came for the money(non existent if you ask me, especially in Nigeria)
Some people genuinely just love medicine.
Some people choose to study it because they like seeing doctors looking sweet with stethoscope around their neck(I fall into this group embarassed lipsrsealed)
Everybody get e own reason, which I feel is totally valid.

Good evening nairalanders, someone just told me that UNIZIK losts its NUC accreditation for admitting medical students. Please how feasible and genuine this information may be? Any medical student of UNIZIK or a student of UNIZIK can also chip in pertaining to this information. I knew that various route of getting medicine and surgery is inumarable, Eg crossing from another department related to medicine and surgery like physiology to medicine and surgery, through direct entry, prescience and jupeb candidate; will this part also affected if this information is relevant ?

Good day everyone, I'm a Pharmacy student in a Nigerian University, although I wanted to change to medicine but i was afraid I wouldn't beat the cut-off mark but I later did, I felt sad after this and wrote another jamb this year for medicine , but my school is on strike now, we've not even started lectures , if I gain admission I will be resuming 2024, I'm not sure if this is a good decision.
PS:I haven't told my dad about this , I'm planning to tell him after gaining admission because I know he may not allow me.

I assume the University you are talking about is UI.

Go for what you want. If it is Medicine you want go for it. Don't make decisions you might later regret later.
When it comes to career choice, parents' decision does not have much weight. It is your life.

Follow your passion. But I will strongly advise you still find a way to still continue in your pharmacy program while simultaneously taking UTME. Do not throw away your pharmacy for any reason. Pick another good school for medicine if your current school does not allow you to matriculate twice.

2.And what advice do u have for someone who doesn't understand chemistry?

3.Is there any UNN medical student/aspirant here?

I had 242 this year and i’m now currently preparing for another embarassed
What do you not understand in chemistry? Is it the organic part or the inorganic part? For the studying part, it varies with people. Me personally, I was serving in my PPA, taking students after school lessons and at the same time reading for JAMB.

You have to have a goal, what do you have in mind to score? What are your weak points? How can you use your area of strength to cover up your weak point to get you the score you? Answer those questions and you'll know how to study.

Jamb score only
No Post UTME.
Candidates with 280+ in UTME (especially if you have 300+ in UTME) are at more advantage in getting admission into Medicine.

I like this explanation a lot. Use your areas of strength to cover up your weak points. Don't leave your weak points, try as much as possible to improve on them but make your strong subjects even stronger. Make them so strong that 90+ will be your score.

There is no way you will get 90+ in a course and not get at least 280 in JAMB. If you do a bit well in weak points, before you know it, you are hitting 290 and 300+

I am a good example of using your areas of strength to make up for your weak points.

I was studying mechatronics engineering when I took JAMB form. I used to be a math and physics student mostly and anything bio wasn't really my thing. But since I wanted MBBS, I had to improve in my bio.

But what I also did was to hold my physics strong. Despite the fact that I was already good, I knew I wasn't good enough. I carried topics that I knew but didn't know well like Electromagnetism and others, studied them like mad. Bought Myschool App for prep

I read other courses well too, don't misunderstand me, but I held my physics tight. Very tight.

My score went like this

Eng 69

Bio 61

Chem 76

Phy 99

Total 305.

Hold your strong subjects well pls and improve on weak areas. Myschool App is also good for preparation. Get past questions arranged per topics (not ones arranged by year of exam), this type helps A LOT

I had 242 this year and i’m now currently preparing for another embarassed

-Start preparing early
-Get jamb syllabus for that year
-Get good textbooks
-Get Jamb remix series past question(arranges questions topic by topic,it'll make u very good)
-Join a group of very serious aspirants
-Work hard, put in the hours.(as much as u can)
Let me touch an area people might not touch
-don't expect to read a topic once and remember it for life, practice spaced repetition and active recall (you can look that up on youtube or google for proper understanding)
-Cover ur jamb syallbles well well, more than once(master the topics)
-Aim very high in jamb and hit ur books hard
-Pray too

For Chemistry, depending on the aspect you don't understand, consult other materials to get a clearer understanding of the concept or topic(this helps).Or u can meet fellow brainy aspirants to put u through.
All the best doc.

don't they make use of it (I mean the screening) while calculating one's aggregate?
your JAMB score is your only ticket for admission, there is no Post-UTME exam.

Omor, 351? i dough my hat for you. You must be among the top scorer for this years utme. You better change to a state university if you are financially buoyant to avoid stories that touch irrespective of your jamb score 351.
