Tying yourself in Russia is never a better deal than tying yourself to EU. Once you join a trading bloc you are there for decades, there's no reversal. Morocco will jump out of AU today if EU accepted them. Every former Soviet country in the EU bar one has a better GDP per capita and higher standard of living than Russia.
