Few airlines make profit. KQ is flying. Nigeria Airways has been bitting the dust since most of you were not yet born. KQ generates more than a billion in revenues annually. It own subsidiaries that make money like JamboJet, Precision Air,. It transport more than 2 million passengers annually and tonnes of cargo.

10yrs ago - Ethiopia Airline was not making profit - KQ was making profit.

How can an aviation industry that hasn't produced any gain or profits since 2012 be named among the finest in Africa? Man, KQ is just a hoax and a way for the politicians to launder cash and drugs . surely, We all know that your major supermarkets have been producing false data to make them appear positive, thus the truth regarding KQ will undoubtedly be revealed shortly.

So there is nothing wrong with Nigeria economy. It doesn't need to diversify anymore. The generator powered manufacturing is doing great. The hoe powered agricluture is doing wonders. Nigeria economy remain OIl and nothing. That is why since Oil had issues in 2010 or around - it's been under recession. If Oil wasnt an issue - you wont be getting sick with oil prices.
obaaderemi:
This confirms what we've been saying for long. The Nigerian economy is more diverse than many believe. Because of oil, people usually disregard the contribution of the non- oil sector.

Airlines are strategic assets for a functioning country. Besides GoK spend billions in travel - as civil servants have to travel - so that kind of cost - aint going away. What is percentage of Ghana gov money that goes to foreign airlines alone.

The only problem with Nigeria is that Government revenue have been based squarely on oil for over 40 years, that she finds it difficult to diversify revenue base by formalising other sectors. The Nigerian Government have been so dependent on NNPC and small kickbacks from oil exports of the other companies for revenue which is too small. Then when you pay huge subsidies to import PMS, everything just cancels each other out.
All resource dependent countries face this problem of a real non diversification of revenue. Even in Europe, the resource dependent countries there like Norway face this problem of non diversification in revenue relative to other European countries. But in Africa and Nigeria especially, it is worse.

Shoprite could not sustain the heat of Naivas and Quickmart.

You mean the same Naivas Supermarket that was sold to the French and Germans? Even though Kenyans are known for talking senselessly, we are aware of what we are saying. Show me a major Kenyan corporation that has at least 60% Kenyan ownership.
When SA held 62% of Shoprite, Nigerians currently hold 90% of the company.

Your expansion strategy is bone-headed. You go everywhere and buy the cheapest smallest struggling bank you can get - spend years cleaning their balance sheet. You give South Africa competition in burning capital.

Kenya expansion is well thought out - and strategic - with intention to turn profitable in 3yrs or bow out. This cut across most kenya companies. The only place kenya companies have got burnt so far is South Sudan - another Zoo like Zoogeria - with currency like Ghana Cedis and Zambia Kwacha.

DRC and Ethiopia represent the last frontier of banking in Africa - combined market of 200M - with almost 90% unbanked. Kenya banks are the trailblazers in banking the unbanked - and these are the models that is seen them overrun DRC. Equity was tiny banks 10yrs ago - but now it behemooth - it was not even a bank 20yrs ago - it was building cooperative society.

This is why Equity is studied in Harvard Business school - for banking the unbankable and making serious money.

You’re not building any behemoth of a bank with a DRC base.

The county is shit, it has a non existent economy.

Banking is not DRC main problem right now, it’s food.

Folks are hungry, nobody is going to save any money when they have not eaten two square meals a day.

The number of registered company doing business in DRC with significant funds is not up to 500.

The banking policy in that country is shit, you’re not going to make any profit or turn over that will suddenly make you overtake nigeria or SA in DRC, not even in the next 20 years.

Not true. Trade and Services (that branches sometimes into Agriculture) is 45% of the economy. Not majorly taxed. So many big markets in Lagos, Government is still debating how to formalise them and get tax. I even watched one of those debates two days ago. Many Companies yet still find ways to evade tax. Our former minister of finance lamented that much.

People who talk too much

Logorrhoea: The symptom of a mental disorder
In Psychology there is a word to describe the tendency to talk too much: Logorrhoea. In fact, it is a symptom of some basic psychological problem, usually of manic states, agitation, and anxiety

To the reasonably intelligent forumers here, does any of this look familiar? Apart from the autism, pathological lying and low self esteem?

Pure self-centeredness
People who talk too much do not always suffer from a disorder, sometimes it is simple egocentrism....In reality, it does not even occur to them that their monologue can bore the others. These are people so absorbed in themselves to presume that everything that happens to them is of general interest.

Iow, you're feminine! You assume everyone in the world wants to hear your voice and pay for your dinner. No, nigga! Just. No. But we've seen your feminine traits too MANY times to be surprised.
Men, normal men don't obsess on clothes, fashion and looks like you mofos. In these parts it's only Congolese who do that and we've seen your respective sociocultural resemblance frequently.

Once it's profitable the gov will exit KQ. This is not first time. Btw 1977 (End of East Africa Airways) and 1999 KQ was parastal and flying. KLM bought 40% - and other public 35% - Kenya gov shareholding went down to 20%. KQ enjoyed more than decade of profitability until it made one huge mistake on fuel futures...predicting high of 140 dollars per barrel...then suddenly Oil tanked ..and gov has comeback to re-invest in it. When it back to profitability soon - GoK will exit again by privatizing it. The new owners will pay gov investment.

KQ has had 10 bad news thanks mostly to bad bet on oil - just like Nigeria has had 10 bad years because of being hooked to Oil.

You're funny. Do you know why Kenya local banks routed big banks like Barclays and Standard. The had been in Africa for 100yrs but only banking 5% of the population. When Nigeria banks went to DRC - you followed the same model. Heck concentrate on Nigeria - you have 100M people there who need banking services.

Now with Equity and KCB in DRC - in 2-3 yrs - everyone in DRC will have a bank account - even if they live in the slums of Kinshasa. They will be give small loans.

This inability to see the obvious is a direct result of the Giant delusion. It's also known as " inattentional blindness."
An interesting study has been done.

Studies have shown that we often fail to perceive things that are “right before our eyes,” a sort of misinformation by omission.

https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/misinformation-desk/202106/why-we-miss-the-obvious

Anyway, because of this we can safely expect Equity to pioneer banking services in Makoko by 2032!

So many loopholes in the VAT payments till date, admitted by Government. Customs also have their problems and trying to unlock policies to reach their full potential. So many problems with all these areas and Government is slow to unlock these revenue bases and solve their problems. Also it is not still totally clear cut in all areas, taxes going to the states and those going to the Government. Sometimes non state actors collect taxes. Oil futures. Airlines is 40-50% fuel cost wise. Airlines tries to buy future oil contracts when it's low. Fuel HEDGING. When oil keep rising - those with future contracts enjoy low prices - if oil drops - you continue buying oil at higher prices. This whole aviation business is too complicated for you. You tell your gov to negotiate for bankruptcy with your bond holders.

Your worried about an airline making 1B dollars in revenue - while your gov is about to default smiley on soverign loans.
