Kasssandra: Governments do not just wake up and set price. They consult stakeholders before arriving at a common ground. Some of them run bizs too. Moreover, there has always been price control in the internet service. Why do you think it hard to differentiate between data they provide? The way out for them is to give data disguised as bonus |

The FG shouldn't focus only on the telcos but all sectors of the economy to justify their stance. We, Nigerians, are more guilty because everyone takes advantage of the haphazard situation to hike prices abnormally to exert more pains on the citizenry. Our own wickedness full our body! We must admit it! |

Minjim: Yes, and the price control is still bad. (I am aware of the price regulation in the interent service) You know, this GSM...when it first came, they were charging high prices all over. People complained from morning to night. But they used the hefty profit to build up our current phone and interent service. And the sad thing is that all them nice equipment that runs our telephony and internet networlks are imported...meaning they are expensive. At the end, price controls limit the profit them companies can make. For a fine example as to how price controls have wrecked something...see our refineries. Because we don't sell fuel at a profit...but at a government controlled price, and have been doing so for years...we have broken down refinereis, and free money leading to massive corruption and stealing. Meanwhile...Niger Republic is poorer than us, yet have a functioning refinery because they don't sell fuel there at a cheap price of N173 OR even at N40. And then there is Venezuela that sells petrol at N40 per liter for over 20 years, and has a collapsed refinery , or Iran that does same, and while the refinereis work, their national debt is 420 bn dollars...as at 2020, compared to ours that was 70 bn at the same time. I don't like price controls, not because I have some interest in being tortured by the evil capitalists (and I am a socialist at heart, who even thinks that we should have price controls for things like bread, and rice...when I am being too idealistic) but because people love to make money...from the big capitalist to the workers, and because things cost a lot of money. If we had a situation where we could make stuff like petrol and even equuipment for GSM at next to nothing...maybe we can excuse selling data and suchlike at cheap prices. |

Kasssandra: Forget about the refineries. That's corruption. Nothing to do with price control. Price control helps an emerging economy to create a level playing field for bizs. For example., if I'm a small scale business man into processing. Obviously, my product will be a bit expensive because of cost of production. A bigger actor can come into the game with huge capital and process cheaper than I do this making his product wat cheaper. To encourage small scale biz like mine the Govt must provide a level playing field for all actors in the industry else, the bigger actors will run us under. Same thing happened in the GSM sector |

BreconHills: Try and go back to school... ASUU just resumed lectures.... There was an increase by 10% ....which was bad and made life difficult for those consuming data on a daily....Then the FG ordered that the people who made the increase to reverse it and I appreciate that.... If you're having issues understanding a thing....I will ask you to return back to your cave.....You have no reason to be found using the internet.... |

JASONjnr: Ok so after appreciating it,you still found the people that reversed it devilish. How you make peace with that contradiction is baffling. Whenever I see someone resorting to insults I see desperation and flailing hands trying to suck the person into a wrestling match. I really don't have the time for that. |

JASONjnr: Writing is about your audience not about you. If it is about you, write in your journal and keep it on your desk. You probably thought you had written what your thoughts were. But you didn't. Thoughts can do that. Show what you wrote to five people and ask them if you weren't talking down the government or the President. It is well with you. |
Re: FG Directs Telcos To Reverse 10% Increase In Calls, Data Tariffs by COMPAQ(m): 2:50pm On Oct 21, 2022 |
JASONjnr: Which one is slave mentality!! I'm a realist not a sentimentalist. I am constantly thinking how to make more money and invest wisely for the future. Not wishing for things to become cheaper and for Nigeria to go back to how it was in 1975! Those days are gone and ain't coming back. Even in America there is normal gradual inflation, even if its 1%. What $10,000 will buy you in 1975 America, you'll need like $18,000 today!! My father told me long ago that never pray for the price of things to come down, but rather pray that you will always be able to afford it! And that's my mantra. So between the two of us, its clear I'm the one who has something reasonable to pass on to my kids, while you will likely pass on your same poverty mentality!! |
Re: FG Directs Telcos To Reverse 10% Increase In Calls, Data Tariffs by JASONjnr(m): 3:43pm On Oct 21, 2022 |
COMPAQ: You even have the guts.... Comparing how US dollars inflate is never a thing to compare with how naira works... There's always a good pay package to compliment the inflation in the US... But the FG will never increase workers pay. Salary earners will always be at the receiving end and you don't even know the effect of this to the society. Also, you have a terrible mindset. You are selfish and you care about your gain and what you get and how it negatively affect others is never your concern. I'm done with you. |
