Maybe they're doing it one at a time......further instructions should come after qualification deadline... ...but if there isn't, all well and good. ** Since Cardinal Stone will be paying, just ensure you have your E-Dividend mandate activated with them. *** Good thing is that Cardinal Stone now has online portal for filling and submitting E-Dividend Activation Form......Without going thru the paperwork of submitting hard or scanned copy*** 1 Like |

onegentleguy: The CBN must have decided on this path to stem the likely inflationary pressure and follow-up impact the present low production levels of goods/commodities would have on the real sector amidst the recent flooding that has ravaged 11 states of the federation. The move is expected, as aggragate supply greatly lags aggregate demand which hitherto was already squeezed following in-country bottlenecks (insecurity, low capex to Agric and related infrastructure), post covid-induced supply constrain and the global energy crisis exacerbated by the Russian-Ukrain war. With the recent flood outbreak now in the mix, money supply may have outpaced (grown faster than) real output further widening the demand-supply disequilibrium hence, the need for a contractionary monetry policy. The CBN wants to strategically mop up liquidity from the system to help curb spending and stem the high rising inflation until that time when the economy recovers from or reclaims it's recent (pre-flood) production levels. The Apex bank might also be hoping that as less Naira chase the green back, the recent pressure in the fx market can be minimized. Here's the problem though... I've always said that Nigeria's rising inflation is not just demand-pull but also cost-push driven. While this policy might cushion the impact of pressure on the demand side, albeit temporarily, (lower spending) it will likely not stem the pressure on cost. This is because a drop in money supply often results to an increase in interest rate. (usually an over 80% prob.) An upward pressure on rate effectively implies an increased margin on CoF (borrowing cost) and by implication lower purchasing power. So this policy (though necessary at this time) may not really have much of an impact, particularly in the near term. I think the rise in inflationary peg may continue, driven by cost-push inputs on the food side. (food inflation) Upward pressure in the prices of goods will likely subsist. Pls do not leave idle funds in the bank! ...it makes zero sense at this time. Get a bag of rice and other non-discretionary goods/commodities. We highlighted this things long before now... (see article... https://www.booksie.com/618814-alarm-bell-in-nigeria-between-fear-risk-and-opportunity) @ RabbiDoracle also hinted on this a couple of times. Some non-cash assets will be a great store of value in the months to come. Impact on the market? On the surface, this appears to be a positive for the money & FI market... since a squeeze in money supply often results in an increase in rates. This however, may not be that pronounced in view of the huge disconnect btw the fiscal and real side of economy. A lot though will depend on... A change in money supply usually have a near zero (negligible) effect/impact on the stock mkt.... and this is for good reason. I continue to see positive in the equity mkt. ...I still see SOME SELECT equity names delivering well above inflation-adjusted return in the short to mid term. Will give a brief on this in due course. Selah 7 Likes 1 Share |

With so many Fintech getting licenses in Nigeria, why can't stockbrokers get licensed and act as Registrars too. Or Registrars getting licensed as stockbrokers too. That way, dividend can be paid without too much hassles. Dividends can be paid to your investment account, then you can choose to withdraw or reinvest them easily without too much trips to the banks. |

*PRESS REMARKS BY GOVERNOR GODWIN EMEFIELE ON ISSUANCE OF NEW NAIRA BANKNOTES* Good afternoon Ladies and Gentlemen, and welcome to this special press briefing of the Bank. We have called this gathering to inform relevant stakeholders and the general public of persisting concerns we are facing with the management of our current series of banknotes, and currency in circulation, particularly those outside the banking system in Nigeria. As you all may be aware, currency management is a key function of the Central Bank of Nigeria, as enshrined in Section 2 (b) of the CBN Act 2007. Indeed, the integrity of a local legal tender, the efficiency of its supply, as well as its efficacy in the conduct of monetary policy are some of the hallmarks of a great Central Bank. In recent times, however, currency management has faced several daunting challenges that have continued to grow in scale and sophistication with attendant and unintended consequences for the integrity of both the CBN and the country. These challenges primarily include: ▪ Significant hoarding of banknotes by members of the public, with statistics showing that over 80 percent of currency in circulation are outside the vaults of commercial banks; ▪ Worsening shortage of clean and fit banknotes with attendant negative perception of the CBN and increased risk to financial stability; ▪ Increasing ease and risk of counterfeiting evidenced by several security reports. Indeed, recent development in photographic technology and advancements in printing devices have made counterfeiting relatively easier. In recent years, the CBN has recorded significantly higher rates of counterfeiting especially at the higher denominations of N500 and N1,000 banknotes. Although global best practice is for central banks to redesign, produce and circulate new local legal tender every 5–8 years, the Naira has not been redesigned in the last 20 years. On the basis of these trends, problems, and facts, and in line with Sections 19, Subsections a and b of the CBN Act 2007, the Management of the CBN sought and obtained the approval of President Muhammadu Buhari to redesign, produce, and circulate new series of banknotes at N100, N200, N500, and N1,000 levels. In line with this approval, we have finalized arrangements for the new currency to begin circulation from December 15, 2022. The new and existing currencies shall remain legal tender and circulate together until January 31, 2023 when the existing currencies shall seize to be legal tender. Accordingly, all Deposit Money Banks currently holding the existing denominations of the currency may begin returning these notes back to the CBN effective immediately. The newly designed currency will be released to the banks in the order of First-come-Firstserve basis. Customers of banks are enjoined to begin paying into their bank accounts the existing currency to enable them withdraw the new banknotes once circulation begins in mid-December 2022. All banks are therefore expected to keep open, their currency processing centers from Monday to Saturday so as to accommodate all cash that will be returned by their customers. For the purpose of this transition from existing to new notes, bank charges for cash deposits are hereby suspended with immediate effect. Therefore, DMBs are to note that no bank customer shall bear any charges for cash returned/paid into their accounts. Members of the public are to please note that the present notes remain legal tender and should not be rejected as a means of exchange for purchase of goods and services. We would like to use this opportunity to reassure the general public that the CBN would continue to monitor both the financial system in particular, and the economy in general, and always act in good faith for the achievement of the Bank’s objectives and the betterment of the country. I thank you for listening. Godwin Emefelie Governor ... copied...... |

Maybe you're looking at the quarter to date.... The marketing and distribution expenses really chopped into the profit and the Cost of Sales was also very high. Cost of raw materials and consumables went up. Barley, wheat and all those stuff are really on the high side and I think they are doing more of importation of some of these things...... Meanwhile, an impressive result from MULTIVERSE! Around +267% profit made..... 1 Like |
