Is it even advisable to teach a three years old boy how to swim?
Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by BlueRayDick: 6:01am On Nov 01, 2022
Seeing multiple blogs report Davido's son dead is saddening even though the family is yet to react to the reports ( understandably so), one can only pray for the family to stay strong in this trying period.

That being said, I think I agree with GloriousGbola on the fact that Nigerians (and in particular Nigerian celebrities) do not learn from the experience of others. One would think our celebrities would've learnt from Dbanj's case and.would have a safe home where kids are not exposed to something like an open swimming pool.

It will not be surprising if all celebrities who show concern during this period go back home and still not do anything to forestall such occurrence in their home. Kids will always be kids, no matter how u try to chaperone them domestic accidents will still happen (but it shouldn't be domestic accident that are preventable.)

I pity every domestic staff and minder in the residence as at the time of the incident. Some of them will rot in the cell for this unfortunate incident.( I read on a blog that they've arrested people in the house as at the time of the incident.) That kind case na to just dey beg God to comfort the family quickly so dem go order Ur release after taking their loss in good faith.

It is, swimming is an important life skill, but like others said, they should have done more to prevent something of this nature from occuring.

They start teaching swimming before age 1 in Australia, which is probably why they always pack gold medals at the Olympics. The issue isn't teaching the baby how to swim, it is having a swimming pool that is not child-proof.

It is heartbreaking news.

I been think say davido get full gangs for him house? What were those crowds that used to hang in his house doing that they couldn't notice that the small boy was missing?

How long does it take for someone to drown to death after submerging in a pool?

Those crowds are good for nothing and only good in smoking, drinking and carrying women/prostitutes up and down..

I dislike crowd so much angry

If there was any doubt most of our wealthy people have empty head, this clarifies it. Dbanj son died in a pool two years ago. You would think these billionaires would have the fking presence of kind to ensure their swimming pools are completely enclosed and child proofed. But here we are
And Davido could have gotten a trainer to teach ifeanyi how to swim.
These guys have money, they have access to the best architects, they see how thier friends abroad deploy safety measures - but yet they cannot implement any of these
all these yeyebrities wishing an saying no no no, all have the same unsafe swimming pools in their houses, and after all is said and done, they will leave them as is.
God is my protector
i had a neighbour who travelled to texas every year. and ye he put is 4 year old in the front seat of his car. i asked the guy wetin you dey do, this is not safe. man just shrugged. and there are plenty of them like that across all levels. prople driving car with toddler in their lap
we dont take safety seriously unless we are forced.
hate lastma all you want, they have conditioned all of us to wear seatbelts. go outside lag, you will see frsc guys casually saying no need for seatbelt
they did not learn in dbanj case, and they will not learn now either

I have always said that I'm never a fan of victim blaming. The instinct to criticize when an accident occurs never sits right with me.

For God's sake, its an accident. Accidents are by definition UNEXPECTED! You just said, that our celebrities here don't learn better protection measures from their counterpart celebrities abroad. But I'm sure if we look deeper, we will see a host of foreign celebrities who have lost their children to preventable accidents. We don't even have to look far, what of celebrities themselves who lost their own lives to accidents and drug overdoses?

Don't get me wrong, the message of prevention and foresight is valuable but timing is everything! One can take all preventative measures and still fall victim to an accident.

This reminds me of when my sister and kids died in a car accident, when we were grieving, someone came and was asking, was she over speeding? Maybe she wasn't vigilant enough, that we know that women are not strong drivers. It took another friend of mine to tell him to shut up! That that wasn't certainly the time for that.

Also reminds me of people that were shouting "Japa, Japa" just immediately after the owo massacre where dozens lost their lives unnecessarily. I mean, the message of Japa in and of itself is not wrong but the timing of it was very insensitive.
This is not a slight on you but constructive criticism not to blame victims immediately accidents happen. Empathy should be the foremost reaction.

What is going on in the world is beyond most countries' capacity. Otherwise, how do you explain the economic debacle in Ghana that is headed by a President who is an economist and a lawyer with a VP who also obtained his BSC, MSC, and Ph.D. in Econs?

Everybody is so busy these days chasing money that they leave childcare for schools and minders. If the mother was home with him, this incidence will likely have been avoided. No one can take care of a child the way the mother will.

The other day in my street it was a child who poured hot oil on his body and suffered serious burns. The maid finished frying and placed the oil pan on the ground. The mother as usual was out there chasing the bag.

The idea of leaving children below 10 years with maids must be discouraged.

Funny thing is, when these parents leave Nigeria and go to places where it's expensive using the services of minders, they suddenly have the time to stay back at home with their kids.

Click on this link below, you would see the children of foreign celebrities who lost their lives to unexpected accidents. Accidents are by nature random and unexpected. You may take protection and prevention and still be a victim.

Just look at your post, are you saying that mother's of 3 year old kids should still ALWAYS be with their kids. That supervised periodical baby sitting shouldn't be a thing? Common!!

That sounds like clutching of straws to me. Accidents can happen to the best of us. You could be sorted still on a position in your house and stray bullet hits you. Maybe someone starts asking, why didn't you have bullet proof windows?

i will start off with the fact that i am often paranoid, and in addition, i am an engineer who has worked in oil and gas

the industry trains you to take safety seriously. the problem with safety is that it comes at a cost. both in timeliness and in cash

but the more cash you have , the more you will [if you are intelligent] push that money into making the workplace safe, because if for no other reason, an accident will cause disruption to operations, increased cost, litigation, etc

in 2015 or so, my wife fell down and broke her wrist. she had been standing on a stool that was on a table. after we left the hospital - i immediately went and bought two step ladders. one for upstairs one for downstairs. because i know someone in the house might be like the ladder was too far away so i decided to use a stool . that is the proper response to an incident. also - anyone in safety will tell you - a death NEVER happens in isolation. there were always some incidents or near misses - which present an opportunity to start proper preventive measures. there were other incidents in Davido's house - maybe they were not reported; maybe they said na God's intervention - and so here we are today.

i constantly harangue and harass everyone when i see them doing something that can cause an accident. and i tell them - do you want to spend the next six months in the hospital? that place you don't like?

i bought my wife a car last year, completely unplanned, a major fking dent in finances - because her banger was constantly breaking down and the mechanics were not helping matters. why? because the last thing you want is to be in a car that breaks down at 8pm in orile or oshodi or other parts of Lagos. then a small incident can be multiplied. ask yourself today - have i don all i can to mitigate potential incidents? what are the things i need to do? i know for instance that as soon as some extra cash comes in, i will change the tires on my wifes car. same reason. they are looking worn. rather than wait for an incident.

the poor will always live with risk because safety is about money. so they will enter danfos with inebriated driver, no seatbelt, no brakes, worn tires. but davido is rich. none of these things should be an issue for him. he travels abroad and he sees friends who have fully childproofed their homes

also, this has HAPPENED before. it happened to dbanj. anyone with a modicum of sense would have immediately called an expensive architect to ask - how do i stop this from happening in my own home? but that is for people who are ready to grow up and learn responsibility.

everyone is 'empathizing' with davido, but no one is saying what should be said - THIS SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING.

maybe davido will use his platform to push for swimming pool safety going forward. because it is not just him an dbanj. every year youths drown in hotel swimming pools while out partying.

i was arguing with someone else and then i realized the difference between us and the west. because in the west at least one person who is a victim in this kind of thing will become an activist to ensure it does not happen again. over here we will wring our hands, empathize each and every time it happens, but do nothing to prevent a future occurrence.

Accidents are not random.

it is why big corporations have accident/incident investigations to identify what went wrong

i have a son - 15 years. he switches on the generator - handles the changeover.he likes walking around barefoot and is always in a hurry. more than once i have stopped him from handling the changeover because he is barefoot. i have told him if he is not careful, there will be an accident one day

i was at his school for open day, and in stairwell, i saw a big disconnected exposed cable. i was like wtf? i called a senior teacher immediately. but i am sure they only made a show for me and were perfectly content to leave it like that.

same school - the steps are a very smooth tile that gets slippery when wet.

same school, they were doing taekwondo training beside some jagged metal stanchions. i called their attention to it and they were looking at me - because it did not compute. they could not see the risk

several factors come together to create an accident. we like to say all barriers have been breached. it is up to you to present all the barriers you can

you know why people are hit by stray bullets? because our security services are undisciplined and never face consequences.

I go to oil facilities to work and before they allow you do any job at height, you must submit a medical certificate from a recognised hospital, they will call the hospital to confirm the result you're presenting.

Your safety harness must be certified and must not have expired. The rigger must have a work at height certificate, the harness and everything he's working with from his hard hat down to the safety boot will be inspected. If there's any drop of rain, just forget about working that day. They will also never allow one rigger climb the tower. Another rigger must be available to rescue the one climbing incase anything goes wrong.

Those guys are thorough. They are never in a rush to do anything. Now, accidents can still happen but they have taken every measure to reduce the possibility to the barest minimum.

Go to other companies especially those owned by Nigerians and the rigger can even climb bare footed. They don't care. If he falls, someone will say we shouldn't blame the company or the rigger because its an accident and it can happen.

The boy falling inside the pool is clearly avoidable and someone has to say the hard truth. Hopefully, those with kids and even you will listen and put as much measures in place as possible to safeguard them when you have them.

Everybody talks freely about their location here from London to Lagos, PH to Australia, Abuja to Texas, but one Peter Iscariot22 is "protecting his location", scared to even say he's American with his chest, worried we might find him amongst 300m Americans. More like he can't even convince himself of his lies.

As of 7 years ago, you alluded cunnily in your usual lying way to being a senior manager in the oil industry. 5 years later you were struggling to pay N20k debt. You can tell us intimate detail of Barca matches going back to mid-2000s. Elruditor, you are not a young boy. Yet when people with lives in Obodo Oyigbo are concerned with houses, pensions, investments, kids ISAs, vacations, and have been on these things for a decade plus, you are putting "return" flight tickets from Naija as proof of being in Obodo Oyinbo like an Obalende dreamer still hustling in the VISA office. Keep hustling, as long as cassava turn to garri, I'm respecting your grind.

Please do well not to reference, allude or "chook mouth" indirectly, by proxy, or roundabout in any conversation I'm having, and I will reciprocate by letting you spout your conspiracy theories unchallenged. Diagnosis is not my calling

I understand. Words can cut deep in the soul to endender such feelings. I wish comfort for the Adelekes, psychiatric healing for you. . . and restitution for your creditors.

Christ ibime, what is this concoction wey you cook this morning?? grin grin
It can't be well with you. You can't say these to your fellow man and go free. Lai Lai. grin

Hope you know you're talking to a parent? I have kids and they are never left on their own or with a maid. If we have outings to attend, we either go with them or one of us stay back at home with them.

The boy falling inside the pool is clearly avoidable and someone has to say the hard truth. Hopefully, those with kids and even you will listen and put as much measures in place as possible to safeguard them when you have them.

As I said earlier, nothing is wrong with talking about safety measures, but both your post's reeked of victim blaming and I think it's too early for that. I just think that one's first reaction to an unfortunate incident should be empathy, not victim blaming.
You are outrightly blaming his mother for negligence irrespective of the fact that the grieving mother may very well be doing the same.
