We are lucky to have escaped Azimio terrible duo - they would have taken Kenya to Zim - already that handshake crew had bankrupted kenya. We are very fortunate.

He should long have been fired for he is solely responsible. Who takes Eurobond during COVID-19. When likes of Nigeria and South Africa were running to IMF. There was almost zero conditions attached to IMF Covid reliefs. But he choose to take commercial loan in period of covid because the campaign platform of Nana was to avoid IMF.

Leaders should always make the right move even if they had promised heaven. Now he is going to IMF under his fours and the conditions that will come will be acute.

TookDownYourMum:
I don't know why many Ghanaians are solely blaming Ken Ofori-Atta for how the Cedi is performing and if he did resign, who the hell would replace him? Considering Mahama's administration would do any better under the economic fallout of Covid-19, the Russian and Ukrainian war, and America's fuckery exporting their inflation via their rates, I would wager Ghana would be in a worse position than it currently is under the NPP.

Dare anyone not say US fed interest rate hikes has anything to do with it thats causing currencies around the world like the Yen (from originally 114 yen to currently 147 yen to $1) to absolutely tank especially emerging economies like Ghana feeling brunt of it.

University rankings are just stories made by fake organizations for their own agendas, there is very little truth on those rankings,I mean how much should we truth these rankings? Methodologies?

Ghana has been warned about the coming debt crisis - but they never stopped. Now they are teetering on an economic collapse at worst and a painful IMF austerity program at best. All their economic stats are now grim - debt to gdp has exceeded 100%, cedis has collapsed by more than 100%, inflation is more than 100% (real).

Kenya similarly has had the warning bells on debt - but I believe Keny has had better handle of the situation - and has generally heeded to stop signs.

The good thing if next Ghana gov copy from Zambia new gov - they will emerge out of it quickly. The new Zambian guy is very inspiring and has already put Zambia on the mend - one year after they defaulted.

Son, that is just one issue,he didn't take action at appropriate time.
But have u tried to think what led to all these high debts and today's inflation? Surely it wasn't all his faults.

They are importing fuel while the same country is an oil producer. Do u know how much affects them, and how can that be allowed?

Go to agriculture, how many foodstuffs and industrial raw materials are imported while they should be sourced locally?

The cedi. Do u know it wasn't floated for all these years? Why? And how much is being wasted to support and stabilize it?

Economic figures.Export is recorded as very high but at the same time the cedi is looking value. How? Someone should be honesty and make it clear about how much they are really ecporting.

GDP.Since GDP calculations involves export minus import, and by quick look we can easily say the ecport figures are not adding up,then why should we believe their GDP?

Living beyond your means.Africans hates the truth.all those borrowings and debt came due to that, but why should we blame one man alone while it is clearly known he isn't the only one to blame because the folks were already lied about their true status of their economy?

There are no conditions from the IMF under the program I've seen. They are only going to restrict govt borrowing and with their negotiation with the opposition party, there will be a break through for the release of funds from Ghana sovereign wealth funds to end the liquidity issue.

Unfortunately for Kenya, you guys are suffering from the full force of the IMF with all kinds of conditions that has force your govt to cut subsides which were the back bone of your economy without preparing your citizens for the shock.
IMF managed to force your govt to cut spending on it pro poor policies which is causing more suffering in Kenya. All because the Kenyan economy was dead when it approached the IMF in it debt crisis.

You have not signed IMF deal yet - because you're taking time to process and stomach IMF conditions. At least Nana now has accepted IMF program inevitability. The conditions are coming...wait for them.

Kenya has very soft IMF conditions - because we went in with everyone during COVID- South Africa, Nigeria and name them .

As for subsidies - there has NEVER been subsidies in kenya - this was Uhuru voter bribery attempt. The maize was introduced a week to election. Fuel subsidy started I think April in 2021 and lasted one year. It was not really supposed to be a subsidy - the money was to come fuel stabilization fund and was for diesel only - but as election approached - desperate Uhuru turned into a fuel subsidy.

Uhuru of course lost with his project and Ruto was quick to terminate it.

You're rambling on many tangential issues it hard to put a handle on your main argument(s).
At end of the day it's about PRUDENT PUBLIC FINANCE MANAGEMENT.
That is job of the finance minister.
It does matter if you're as poor as Burundi or as rich as Kuwait.
You got XYZ money - you have to plan for it prudently.
And this Ghana failure - they didnt manage what they have.
Managing include debt management - knowing when/where/how to borrow
Otherwise, what you've written is nice wish list - of things Africans should do.
But where are where we are....and have to steady the boats (by prudent management of public finance & macro-eonomics)
Before we can dream of doing other things.
If the boat leaks - you're dead.

Again you could be rich as Argentina or Greece or Portugal - but if you mismanage money - build vanity programs - you can go bankrupt.

They have a year or so before Ruto let it sink. It likely it will be let to sink. Before then I think Kq should fire all the pilots. Hire new ones - cheaply.
