The design is good and the microwaves dont go bad but yes the bottom can be greasy after many years of usage and the bottom also have light equipped so u can see your cooking clearly. My design is different from Sonnie10 but still have the extraction duck buried in the wall. Maybe because i have a newer built and updated appliances.

The technology works and i wish i can do same in Nigeria but unfortunately i bought a microvawe, Range and refrigerator today without finding anything like that.

Real stress. Oyinbo no dey cook our type of food. I can’t count the number times frying my tomatoes and peppers stew had tripped the sensor of the microwave. Small smoke from sharki and egufe, and the vent comes on! Too much Wahala and false alarm.

Good morning My Nairaland Chiefs. I made a statement about someone whom I gave job to on this thread since August, based on previous work relationship, but till date none of the jobs contracted to this guy has been completed successfully and to makes matters worse, he doesn't even show up nor is he putting efforts to get my work done. I will try to be brief about how this current contract offer started.

On the 5th of August 2022, Adedward, reached out to me, to find out about the finishing status of my building, that he has two cubicles he wants to dispose at the rate of #100,000 each, because he has some family emergencies to resolve. I thought about it and told him to meet me onsite the following day 6th August 2022. On arrival, I told him I will only be purchasing one cubicle for the master bedroom, but I would like to give him some more jobs based on previous working relationship (he roofed the building and that of my mom in the past). So, I contracted him to change the toilet doors of 5 of my bathrooms, that were previously fixed using panel doors and some other fanciful doors, that Adedward himself convinced me they aren't good for bathroom doors. This was contracted out at #200,000, making a total of #300,000 with the one cubicle he said was in his office for sale. I transferred #150,000 to him same day [b](6th August 2022)

The following day, he reached out to me to transfer extra #50,000, that he has removed the #100,000 for the cubicle and the remaining #50,000 won't be able to sort out the frames of the toilet doors, so I gave him extra #50,000 making #200,000 out of the #300,000 for the cubicle and toilet doors. He came to erect the toilet frames on the 10th of August and sent me pictures, I remembered querying him, as the frames didn't look plum to me, but he said he erected himself and they are fine.

While waiting for the tilers to get done, I called him to come fix stone coated sheets as roof facia, Adedward also convinced me to fix water collectors in addition that they are all his job, we settled for #440,000 for this. I paid him in tranches of #80,000 on the 12th of August, #300,000 on the 16th of August [/b]and when he came calling for extra money, gave him the remaining [b]#60,000 balance on the 22nd of August, 2022... COMPLETING payment for the water collectors and roof facia.

He did bring materials to site, but never completed the roof facia from then till date (Cos he kept bringing the materials in piece meal) and ran just about 5% of the length of the water collectors, wrongly till date...

When I kept disturbing him to come complete the jobs he collected money for, he kept reminding me of not being the first time he has worked for me and that once the flooring of the compound is completed, he will come run the water collectors, complete the roof facia, fixed the toilet doors and glasses, fix the cubicle and fix the outstanding window nets (Forgot to mention he was the one who also got contract for the windows in the past).

On completion of tiling, I told Adedward to come fix the cubicle and after following up for weeks, he claimed the cubicle is not in his office but in his house at Mowe, after several attempts, he told me the cubicle has broken on his way to my site and that he will refund my #100,000....

To fix the bathroom doors.. he requested for additional #80,000, which I gave him on the 4th of September, 2022 to enable him get the glass and fix the door...

Money paid to Adedward till Date;

cubicle - #100,000 (Completed)
Toilet Doors - #180,000 (#20,000 balance left)
Water Collectors/Roof Facia - #440,000 (Completed)

Total - #720,000

The last tranch of payment was made 4th September 2022..

Till date, Cubicle, not fixed; Water collectors - 5% completed; Toilet Doors - 50% completed with errors; Window nets - Not fixed.

I have tolerated his excuses long enough, he no more picks my calls and only sends voice notes, giving excuses and requesting for more time.. We had to move into the house like that, no window nets, no bathroom doors, water collector zero and roof facia not completed..

He is banking on the fact that I do not work in Lagos, nor I do not know his office or home..

My ogas, this is the issue I am currently in, your counsel and advice is welcome..

From the word go, the signs has been there that he needed money urgently for his personal use but you showed empathy to give him legitimate jobs to make that money, something someone like me would still do.
His very big mistake was not properly leveraging on his reputation to get such several other jobs to make up whatever he wants to use the money for in a proper way.
Whatever any money is given for any job, any serious minded contractor would make the whole sum in profits from several regular jobs with assurance of regular referrals and repeat customers that would make the initial seemingly big money look very pale in comparison.
There has been similar complaints by a reputable client I supplied here also but he too was reluctant to give too much details here so as not to totally affect his chances.
If he is reading it, know that what you stand to lose is far more than the little you gain. I wish for you that whatever you are going through is resolved but try and salvage this situation.
It won't be difficult to locate him now that the details are out. Best for him to do the needful fast on his own.
N.B I thought he advertised some lands for sale at mowe recently?

It doesn't slow it down.

It masks it.

Eventually it will show up, but much later.

If you want to stop capillary action install a capillary break or several layers of capillary breaks.

Here is what I am currently doing

1. I installed a 4-inch-thick gravel bed (next time I plan to make it 6 inches)

2. I installed plastic sheeting aka damp proof membrane (double layer), we don't have standards here, so I hope that the double layer will help. The British Standard for DPM is at least 1200 gauge (or 300 micrometres). But no one in the market understands those terms. I don't have the time to import them.

3. I then installed a 4-inch-thick concrete footing (using a 1-part cement to 2 parts sand (stone dust) to 3 parts coarse aggregate [gravel] mix)

4. I am waiting for a couple of days to pass. Following which I will install another damp proof membrane before laying blocks on the concrete footing.

Still waiting for the water to pass through all those defences to attack my walls.

The best! Best option for me is this one . Simple and lovely. Tiles round the house is odd & on the shelf. We have expensive paints that keeps water away from the walls of the building .
