The often repeated story about Nigeria taking 90 percent cut and Indonesia taking 10 percent cut applies here. Kenya SGR was built in record 2.5yrs - and has been operational for 6yrs now - carrying almost two million people from Nairobi to Mombasa every year. That is almost 10 million passengers - without accident, in half the time, comfort and bliss. It was 13th most magnificient ride in world because you get to see few elephants and wild on the way. That I believe is why Coastal tourism has breezed through COVID - domestic tourism from Nairobi & elsewhere are supporting coastal economy. Mombasa port is few notches from Durban in terms of efficiencies thanks to SGR. We can go on and on - Mombasa-Nairobi highway has less congestion - has lots of trucks been removed - 5Million tonnes per annum - is lots of trucks out of the road. I choose to see the elephant in the room...Chinese are only folks who seem to get stuff done in Africa...except in Nigeria. Let move on to Nigeria. Your SGR started way before ours...you recently finished the 150km Ibandan-Lagos - and the stats are crim. Suffering says the same fate belies Kaduna-Abuja - infact it been abandoned. The least said about 1 billion dollar Abuja to Airport the better for you. Is there corruption in kenya. Absolutely. I believe at minimum 10 percent of almost every project is budgeted corruption. This Chinese are normally willing to pay tje "Project Managment Fee" - and in turn whoever get 10 percent - Uhuru I reckon for SGR and expressway - ensure the project never stops - chinese make their money that way - because if project delays like Nigeria Julius Berger towns all over - it will be costly for them. What values does Uhuru or Ruto now bring - they take 10 percent - and ensure the project never stops - police, judiciary, name it - cant stop - because the president is superivsing it even at midnight. This "good" corruption. Bad corruption is Sani Abacha - take all the money and bank it in Switzerland. obaaderemi: 1 Like |

Look at these stats.....before you worry about 10 percent stolen by Uhuru. Ibandan- Lagos - 150Km Monthly passengers -> 33K - annually 350K - versus Mombasa closing 2 million. Cargo -> Zero versus 5 million metric tonnes. Conclusion - Nigeria SGR is a failure. Abuja airport 400 passengers per day. That has to be world most idle railway. 2 Likes 2 Shares |

Shma2022:My bru I grew up with guns... You don't need to copy and past caliber sizes... The fact is the FN Scar isn't even the most powerful rifle in the KDF since the KDF also operate larger caliber than even 7.62... So even if you have FN Scar in 7.62 it still isn't the most powerful rifle in service with the KDF. In general the FN Scar is a decent rifle, but it is complicated and prone to jamming if not kept clean... Its also one of the reasons why the Navy seals rejected it. |

No surprise that the SGR Buyer Credit Loan Agreement came with a cross-default clause (Section 14.1 Clause e). In the event that Kenya defaults on any other external loan, the country will be deemed to have been in default of the SGR facility. In the SGR contract, Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) committed to create inland ports including at Nairobi where KPA would manage the inland ports. If Kenya defaults on loans, China can take over KPA without notifying Kenya government. KPA should also not ask questions. 2 Likes

Where do you see KPA in that? KPA signed a take or pay with Kenya Railway. This same thing you signed with independent power producer. You dont expect China to loan us 5 billion dollars without some collatoral. You gave China farmers cocoa beans as loan collatoral - at least KPA is owned by Gov of Kenya. KPA can sell few shares and pay china loan. But Ghana...how do you collateralize your poor farmers farms and their cocoa? In case you fail to pay...China will take farmers cocoa beans for free until its repaid. Then you went ahead...gave chinese aluminium and bauxite as collatoral for your railway loan. It crazy. Kenya and Ghana both went to Exim bank of China for loan. We told them KPA will give KR as much cargo as they want. You went to China - and gave farmers cocoa as collatoral - for BUI dam The cocoa beans were sold at the prevailing market price rather than a fixed price, and the proceeds were placed in an escrow account with China Eximbank |

You did when building the BUI dam. You gave China cocoa beans as collateral. The cocoa beans were sold at the prevailing market price rather than a fixed price, and the proceeds were placed in an escrow account with China Eximbank., Which loan terms are favourable? On September 25, 2007, China Eximbank and the Government of Ghana signed a buyer’s credit loan (BCL) agreement worth $292 million for the Bui Dam Construction Project. Then, on September 3, 2008, China Eximbank and the Government of Ghana signed a government concessional loan (GCL) agreement worth RMB 2.1 billion. The BCL carried the following terms: 17 year maturity, 5-year grace period, and an interest rate of CIRR plus a margin of 0.75% (6.13%). The GCL carried the following terms: 2% interest rate, 20 year maturity, and a 7 year grace period. The GCL is captured in Project ID#30810 and the BCL is captured in Project ID#183. Collateral The cocoa beans were sold at the prevailing market price rather than a fixed price, and the proceeds were placed in an escrow account with China Eximbank to facilitate loan repayment (and provide a source of security for the BCL). Then, once the dam was operational, the cocoa agreement Just40: |

As we speak - you took loan from exim bank of China - and all your bauxite has to be banked in escrow account in China crazy morons. We gave china our words on paper - not escrow account where money is banked and they deduct first. we pay china man when we want. They cant invade kenya. During covid we asked for more time. We are going to ask for more time...if we want in the future. China man doesnt have our money in some escrow account where he pays himself first. You must be only country in world to do this escrow thing with china. https://www.scmp.com/news/china/diplomacy/article/3126260/ghanas-bauxite-infrastructure-deal-chinas-sinohydro-faces Facing a severe infrastructure financing gap estimated at US$30 billion, Ghana two years ago turned to China to help it fund the building of roads, highways and power dams. The West African nation signed a bauxite-for-infrastructure deal with Chinese state-owned firm Sinohydro Corp in 2018 that would allow the Chinese company to invest about US$2 billion in Ghana’s infrastructure. In exchange, Ghana would use money earned from the sale of bauxite (the primary ore used to make aluminium), refined bauxite and aluminium to repay the loans. As collateral, Ghana agreed to establish an offshore escrow account for receiving revenues generated from the sale of bauxite. 1 Like |

gallivant:That why they project their woes on others..no two countries in Africa are owned by Chinese like Ghana and Zambia.Kenya, Ethiopia and name it borrow but don't accept those terms..or do you find Chinese selling roasted corn on the streets like Zambia and or worse invading farms & poisoning rivers like Ghana. They go broke often despite minerals because of such financial straight jacket.Their bauxite right now was mortgaged to Chinese for mere two billion dollars and I bet their farmers cocoa is collateral somewhere 1 Like |

I watched Maya video on cocoa farming...they aren't allowed to sell to anyone except government..all their cocoa essentially belong to cocoa board and their gov. Their government has used their beans to borrow. Can you imagine a country in this century where you can't sell your stuff except to government body?. I don't think I know of such country in Africa? Last such happened was 1980s. 1 Like |

rvp2018:Envious for what? Your sgr continues bleeding money. Operational cost is far higher than revenue. You are saddled with one of Africa's biggest debt burden because of that sgr. China recently fined your government because you defaulted on their loans to you. The Chinese own you because of that sgr. They provided over 90% of the funding. Where else in Africa is their funding percentage as high as that? |

jl115:The emboldened is the reason enough why I shouldn't engage you. But then again, I doubt if you've ever used an FN-SCAR( special force compact rifle) of any type. That factor alone drives us to a level pegging ground. You have to hit google to dig out information. Also, the only version abandoned by the US navy seal was the light version of FN-SCAR. This is due to its heavy weight and jamming at some point. "The U.S. Special Operations Command later canceled their purchase of the SCAR-L and planned to remove the rifle from their inventory by 2013. However, they will continue to purchase the SCAR-H version, and also plan to purchase 5.56 mm conversion kits for the SCAR-H, allowing it to substitute for the SCAR-L ." Apart from the aforementioned, I agree with the rest of your points. 1 Like |
