94 is not the whole story about our world cup history na. We could have but we did not. End of story. 6 World cup outings, yet our longest run is 2nd round. If that is not consistently mediocre I don't know what to call it.

Our match against Spain was not the best match of France 98 abeg. What of Brazil vs. Holland, what of France v. Croatia or England v Argentina? Even Argentina v. Holland was epic. I watched all these matches live. If you were a Frenchman, you will say that Spain v. Nigeria was better than the final between Brazil and France? Haba Haba, I am a die hard Super Eagles fan but I do not see the team and our history through rose tinted glasses.

Do not twist the topic, here.
I do believe the argument here, is our World Cup performances relative to other African countries.
My argument is based on that. Compared to other African nation our performances are no where near consistently poor and mediocre!

Why is Senegal bringing on a different striker? make dem bring on Mendy now. I think they need to

That's why he did excellently well at Wolfsburg ❓
So you will judge him by his lowest and not by his highest?

Henry was a flop at Juventus, Bergkamp was a flop in Milan. Would you judge them by that or by the heights they attained?

A Ghanaian journalist by name Eboh Appiah said something that struck a cord," Nigeria has the talent but Ghana has the character"
Ghana has neither the talent nor the character. They are just at the WC. We saw Ghana flounder just last year at the Nation's cup.

For Nigeria, beyond talent, beyond character, beyond coaching, we need to play at a pace faster than we currently play. We play such lethargic football, it galls my soul.

One striker can be dropping deep and playing as a midfielder... and I think they want to be able keep the ball in the opponents half of the pitch.

The highest point attained at the WC by African countries is quarter final. Naija's best is second round. Shikena

They have other midfielders who can do that. There is the Jackson guy I believe.

henhen! Now, you get it.
Highest point is different from best performance. A team position often depends on the opposition!
Best performance by any African team to date still remains Nigeria 1994 team.
Shikena!

Teranga Lions of Senegal through to the Round of 16 as hoped from the beginning.

Showing their true stuff as African Champions indeed even in the absence of their number 1 Talisman, Sadio Mane.

Kudos African Champs. cool

You actually think Portugal can defeat Nigeria when there is all to play for or when everything is at stake, especial at the world cup?

Which team has ever scored past 2 un-replied goals against Nigeria at the world cup?

Denmark 4 - Nigeria 1

You have the players to be at the World Cup consistently. No progressing past the 2nd round says a lot.

We can’t keep boasting about our talents. We need to achieve.

Aliou Cisse has joined the elite group of African coaches in the 2nd round of the WC. Lesson for us, Senegal was patient with him, we need to find one Nigerian coach, support him very well and be patient!!!! Of course being patient doesn't mean we should tolerate corrupt selections.

Nigeria doesn't glorify mediocrity. Cup or nothing. No African team can still be compared to our 1994 and 1998 teams. The team that eliminated us either gets to the finals or win the cup.
