The alternative for those who eventually attain UK citizenship status is to move to Switzerland (the immigration system here is even more ridiculous than anywhere else), Australia, the US or Singapore. China could be another option depending on skillset. The Middle East, too, is a good option. You can even return to Nigeria or other parts of Africa as an expat. Just don't become a witch by dissuading others from doing what you did. There is a reason the passport is strong, don't just siddon and lament like some of them do on NL. I understand it won't be easy for married folks, but sha, keep building on your skillset. It is akin to those who lament of no knacks in Canada or even the UK while holding a Canadian/British passport. What stops you from moving to Central America or even Jamaica if you are a woman? Maybe because I am a young man, but sha, no be me say make dem rush go marry 1 Like |

thebosstrevor1:I agree salaries are low in Europe compared to America, Switzerland or Australia. But the professions you mentioned above are normal or average jobs of which even in the US, they won't earn above $50k. But when you talk of investment bankers, surgeons and Tech people working for top teir firms, the pay is great. the reason why we look at it this way, is because we think from the average class. Europe still has more billionaires and millionaires than Africa. I'll give you an example from my perspective. I'm into tech, and I look at the higher spectrum of things if am relocating. Top tier firms like Palantir pay even better than Google in the UK. Am talking of £93k/yr for a new grad minus bonuses. The total pay mounts to around £117k as of 2021. You can check levels.fyi for real data and reddit. Though I might sound biased from a software engineering background. Truth is we all can't think the same, and that's why this life "no balance " . For me, I love being in the top 1% of my field , and though I don't fancy the UK, but I won't settle for less either 5 Likes 2 Shares |

I will only suggest people travel to the UK, make money and come back to Nigeria to invest. A scenario: A couple who went for MBA will experience tough times the 1st year. Yes. The 2nd year, both couples start working, earning at least 2k/month each = 4k for both (provided it's not a great job o). Let's assume they spend 2k/month(Rent, Tax, Bills, Groceries and Miscellaneous) keeping 2k every month. That's 48k at the end of their 2-year post study visa. Now bring the £48k to Nigeria and convert at black market rate of N850 to N40.8 million. Shey you now understand? 8 Likes 2 Shares |

Western Europe practice 20% capitalism and 80% socialism.. which means you can't be super rich while you neighbor is super poor.. never! If u want to making it super rich, then go to the USA, African rich natural resources countries like Nigeria etc. 1 Like |

Gerrard59: A friend of mine moved to Netherland few months ago. Although he's working with someone papers for now while they split the salary 50/50 He makes over a million monthly. His rent is 266k naira He sends his mom and family 200k monthly and saves the rest. At least, he saves over 500k monthly. Imagine what he will save after getting his papers. As a youth, work hard and come back here and invest. Maybe build a standard hotel. You should be relaxing in your 50s 4 Likes |

thebosstrevor1: Yet the best and brightest go into lucrative tech, finance and management consulting industries. Who is having joy when there are student loans to be paid? A lifestyle to attain? Mortgages? You people need to understand a thing or two about simple economics and Maslow's hierarchy of Needs to understand better how people think and do things. An engineer working 80 hours a week for a multinational company makes about 2500€ net a month 80 hours a week and this "Engineer" works for a "multinational company" you say? €2.5k net is loads for someone just starting life or in a low-skilled job. That is over €35k per year. Is N1.8m per month after tax chicken change for a mere developer in Naija now? Frankly, a lot of people in the UK and other good parts of Western Europe don't come here to talk about wages and wealth because it's against social etiquette. I don't know anyone in tech working 80 hours, it is 40 hours and the freshest developer I know earns €30k per year in a small company. FYI, this is just below the limit for visa sponsorship here. Anyone you know who's on a sponsored visa is not earning less than €32k as per the visa requirement. The minimum a senior developer earns is €60k. Here, bus drivers earn about €38k. On balance, Europe is not America, you earn more salary in America, however, you also don't have the kind of perks and social security people in Europe have. If you prefer the American system better, move there so. 4 Likes |

We live in a very wicked and selfish world. After someone has made money from supporting evil and wicked politicians to the detriment of the common man they start looking for opinions from same common man they have impoverished to Japa to the best countries in the world. Not every African you see in foreign countries are good people. There are a lot of miscreants and wicked people who Japa with money gotten from corrupt and wicked politicians. Many of them start forming woke. Back to the topic, 80hrs per week in Europe is a bloody lie. The essence of traveling out is to have a good life. Those discouraging others are just doing so because they don't have the means to travel out. Majority of our politicians children already have a based abroad. We should continue voting miscreants and people who don't give fu€k about the well-being of the common man expect things to change. In European countries food is not their problem, but maybe to flex life might be difficult. But in 9ja to even see food chop self na problem. It's very important to know the kind of people most posters in Nairaland support. Enough of 1999 kind of politics, those handling the affairs in European countries don't have two heads. 7 Likes |

pocohantas: Exactly what zuby77 said in his story... He said that; the system over there is designed to make you comfortable, it's not designed to make you save because everything you need is already provided by the government - all you gotta do, is pay your bills! After paying your bills for the month, you've got enough left for feeding - they don't have to bother about sending money to their parents or anybody. I see why some hate billionaires. Simple life! No show off, you get to save if you're strongly disciplined! 2 Likes |

Niggas are legit making 4-5year plans praying/hoping/expecting that Naija keeps going downhill so the coins they come with will become tens of millions in itself. I do hope and pray if anything else that in 2023-2024 exchange rate goes back to pre 2014 levels of 150 to 1USD or even lower....so I can happily watch all those calculations go to shit . 5 Likes |

tensazangetsu20:Mechanisms are in place already to stabilise the exchange rate of the country. Emefiele just changed the naira so as to take away that purchasing power from the people putting abnormal pressures on our currency. This is a long lasting solution,I commend him for that. Secondly,I think the policy will be followed up by serious anti hoarding/storage of currency restrictions, like strong deposit and cash withdrawal limits for instance. Also,If hopefully DangRefinery comes alive, that will also ease pressures a whole lot. Thirdly,I think BDCs(Nigeria's biggest currency threat) will be seriously regulated or even outrightly banned(better solution) after all these reforms. I'm not saying naira will go back to 2014 highs, but it'll recover very rapidly in the very near future. |

Gerrard59: the bright and the brightest don't go to tech, coding is now a routine job, and learning coding is a meme. You can learn coding online for free, there are no barriers, no regulatory or credentialing body and the barrier to entry does not necessitate any sort of degree or certification, it is open to the lowest bidder Go figure out why everywhere online there is a tech school trying to teach people living in third-world country coding for free, they want to create a code-monkey-based economy where code monkeys like you do routine jobs for cheap. soon the market will be over-saturated with complete morons. fact is that if you don't mind repetition, you are boring, you are autistic, and don't mind playing with Linux all day then coding is for you. another fact is that most code monkeys like you will be stuck doing the same routine job and obsessed with earning in dollars and maybe be without career progression or social standing. I think this should be my last reply to you, I really don't have the time to argue all day. |
