Nicely put @Saxywale2, your line of thought strongly resonates with mine!

Back in the early 2000s, I grabbed and read a copy of the classic book,
"From Third World to First" by the father of modern-day Singapore, Lee Kuan Yew. The massive book of over 700 pages literally made me realize how to build a country if you have a visionary leader, and highly motivated citizens. Slightly over 80% of Singaporeans are of Chinese descent with the rest being
ethnic Malays and Indians.

This ethnic configuration made it a bit easy for them to navigate. There were ethnic riots too in Singapore and Malaysia back in the 1960s. But then Lee Kuan Yew set up industrial estates, boosted education, upgraded military service for Singapore citizens, and made his city-state into a major financial hub.

I noticed that these were some of the things that Obafemi Awolowo, GCFR, SAN, did as the Prime Minister of the Old Western Region in the 1950s, setting up many investment vehicles, industrial estates in what is now Lagos State, Ibadan, etc, and at independence, the Western Region was rich
enough to even donate the first building used by Nigeria as a high commission in London.

A decentralized Nigeria would make it easier to reach the goal of rubbing shoulders economically and militarily with the Asian Tiger nations, and much more.

Then the world would respect a decentralised Nigeria (and the rest of the people of African descent worldwide) that can independently send her own space satellites and astronauts into outer space, and more!

Ray Dalio also talks about the "changing world order" with a strong warning for the U.S., and any country that wants to succeed today had better follow his warnings.

Unfortunately, the centralized Nigeria as of today exhibits all the negative indices the American billionaire Ray Dalio talked about in his book that have led to the fall of empires... and the U.S. manifests some of these negative indices, and we have to act fast to save the 2 countries that mean a lot to us all OR... Boom! Economic downturns, social unrests, then Civil War.
"The changing world order."

All the best.
Nigeria as a country has huge potential, but I think we went on a wrong path when the country changed from the Parliamentary to the Presidential System. I heard of how good they had it back then. Up till now, alot of sub-Saharan African countries and the black race in general all over the are still looking up to Nigeria to wake up from it's deep sleep.

@ bolded - Nope .

Funny enough south Korea use to be a very poor country in the 50s until Miracle happened on the Han River and every friggin time I remember this I feel very sad.

If things were great with Nigeria honestly it should be trailing China in economic might say 7t USD economy (approx. 35K USD GDP per Capita) black race might earn the respect of the world.
We will wake up from the deep sleep at some point in the future.

Not particularly fond of the 3rd world vs 1st world monikers. "Developing, Under-devloped, And Developed", though have some issues, are probably better descriptors.

I agree with you IjeBos.

A section of the media and some folks on the street level are responsible for a lot of these misinformation here.

The terms 1st world, 2nd world, and 3rd world in the original context were NOT used as economic descriptions for nations.

So, the term "3rd world country," has nothing to do with poverty, but it simply describes the countries that after World War 2 did NOT align with either the Western U.S. aligned coalition (1st world) OR the Soviet bloc (2nd world).

Yup! The Presidential System is very expensive for a country like Nigeria that is classified as a significant under-achiever economically.

The Parliamentary System would be a better option to save cost, and then allow e-Government and "e-Everything" to permeate the
Nigerian society with high-speed broadband, while applying the rule of law.

The large armada of Nigerians in the Diaspora would be motivated to use video conferencing and other virtual means to collaborate with folks back in Nigeria to leapfrog the economy and medical practice, etc.

The one way to grow is to make power as cheap as possible
Cheapest power. Why do these people tell us there is adequate refining power abroad. We should consume whar we hv first. We hAVE been fed nonsense about idle refining capacity so we export oil to these idle refineries then rexport it back. What nonsense is that

How do we solve the issue of the oil and gas megalomaniac behemoth? Nigeria's only problem is the Dutch disease. If you can find out how a parliamentary self governance can handle the issue of oil and Shell with all their complex weavings over generations then we are onto something

Then you'll keep on repeating the cycle like insanity. Just switch to solar and in time pray to God to drain all the oil dry, so we can focus on the cheaper form of power like I've stated. Nothing will change with the refinery process and even fuel subsidy no matter who enters power
A realistic person will look towards solar as a solution coZ nothing will change with this Oil cabal

I wonder if it's more a problem of leadership than anything else. I think Nigeria may too fractured a country. And people are comfortable with the condition, comfortable eeking out a life rather than the potential of a sacrifice. Whatever happens in Ukraine, their people have impressed me at the level of their sacrifice for their country. I always wonder, could that be Nigerians?

I have very surprised the Trump MAGA cult has not come out to first deny the statement, then subsequently rationalise it before finally whatabouting it.

I heard no such thing myself. What I heard is we all so disagreed and ended up killing each other in a civil war.

It's not the system that causes us to "deep sleep". We just have not evolved to organise and unite into one country yet because we have not begun teaching that we ought to and circumstances haven't made us. If say Second World War Germany attacked us or Russia attacked our Ukraine we might decide to fight for our country, but at the moment, in the non-existence of external foes, we must still fight amongst ourselves instead of the things - no light, insecurity, corruption, ill-funded schools, women and children's rights, ignorance - that we should fight to eliminate.

We must first wake up from our deep sleep to wake up others but I'm sure you see how hard it is to awake basilico.

I think it's more a problem of followers. Most are like magas, I'm sorry to say, and would rather follow a nump, a Nigerian dump, than a saint. We'd likely treat the saint like we read Jesus was treated and elect the thief instead.

And education is the solution. And I commend you here for trying though many can not learn it would seem. But these things take generations. I just imagine when we here are dead and our children take over digging through the archive. You'd get it if we were here reading what our parents might have written if they had the opportunity we have.

A bright Nigerian future is what I see, though the road there will be very bumpy indeed.

I sat down in group talks about the Nigerian situation and the remedy. When we finished all the threads, we couldn't figure out how to handle Oil and who gets to control it in the eventual break-up. And this is a topic much of the pundits on channels, arise and co haven't addressed or afraid of

Yeah, I could see that. Honestly, I've never taking a real Nigerian history class(took a History of Africa class(very ambitious class) as an elective in University) so my knowledge extends as much as what I read in books and I what I pick up. But, the current situation doesn't seem tenable that the North has the balance of power but economic development seems to be localized elsewhere.
