So, if we’re in a 2v1 and a defender commits himself to me that quickly, you bet I’m going to eliminate him by passing to the other guy. He forced me to make that decision, a decision which makes it easier for my team to score.

If he baited me whilst tracking my teammate, I’d be forced to make that decision myself. Do I want to go and score myself knowing that he will be in the path of goal? Or do I want to pass to my teammate so he could score- knowing that immediately I release the pass, na sliding tackle e go carry go meet am?

Making that decision will take me a few moments and I won’t be moving with the ball at top speed then. And I also have to act quickly because time is of essence.

An experienced attacker will delay the pass. And if the other guy is smart too, he’d spread the field. That way, he won’t be able to block the pass. And we’d have been forced to make that decision

It’s more difficult for a left footer to finish from the left side. Just like it’s more difficult for eight footers to finish from the right. Scoring from that angle is not easy.

That Foden does it often attests to his brilliance. Theo Walcott has this skill too. So does Gareth Bale (4 goals vs Inter at LB).

Kane was positioned more centrally tho. He’s in a better position. Plus he’s the striker and he’s yet to score.

So, Foden’s thinking will likely be to pass to Kane. Or to make a dash and then square it for Kane to tap in.

Baiting Foden and making him delay his decision was the best option. It doesn’t guarantee that they won’t score but it’s their best chance of preventing the goal.

Though there's is an exceptional situation which is if the marker is close enough to the ball carrier he can decide to hark the player down and risk a send-off when his team is leading and with few minutes left to play.
