oyaskii: True, cinema seems to slowly be at it's former peak. We probably won't be seeing billion dollar films frequently as before for some time cos Moviegoers are now more picky and the global economy is somewhat fvvked. Yep, 2023 is the the true test. I believe cinema would bounce back. Scot seems to insinuate that cinema seems back already although peeps are lore picky.

The Banshees of Inisherin (2022) This is such an Irish movie. Darkly funny. Melancholic and depressing, yet simultaneously almost sweet and hopeful. Colm (Brendan Gleeson) one day seemingly just decides he no longer likes his best friend Pádraic (Colin Farrell). Pádraic's existence is essentially turned upside down. The fictional island of Inisherin is depicted as just off the coast of Ireland's mainland. Close enough to see and hear bombardments of the Irish Civil War, but disconnected enough to not have a dog in the fight. As Pádraic desperately seeks out answers for as to why Colm could literally cut himself off of his friendship, it invites questions about the nature of friendship, our basic need for connection, and the destructive power of despair and loneliness. A really beautiful film from Martin McDonagh. And though it's Farrell and Gleeson's film through and through, Kerry Condon and Barry Keoghan were excellent in support. Condon in particular was incredibly charming. This is instantly one of my personal favourite from this year. Thanks to these recap channels, I’ve watched movies which earlier put me to sleep. Watching full length movies nowadays will become a celebratory ritual. Time is too precious not to troll Nairaland. I’ll dedicate about four hours for Lord Of The Rings and The Hobbit Series. I can’t waste days on those movies when I’m not forced or paid to. List of movies include; Joker. Still a regular film. Too slow for my liking. Turned out a good origin story. V for Vendetta. Yawn. Every scene was monologue upon monologue which bored me to tears. The recap felt almost the same, but I bore through to complete the average plot. Prisoners. An okay movie. Will I watch it in full length? Sure, why not. I couldn’t get the mood right back in the day. Three Billboards Over Ebbing, Missouri. Hmm. New. I like it. The realistic ending was good but will leave me feeling empty after all the time invested. Moonlight. I’ll enjoy it. A story based movie. Moonfall. Struck me as the same formulaic plot as The Tomorrow War. Amazon. A good popcorn flick if you turn your brain off. It’s available on DStv Catchup. I know what I’ll watch tonight. Emancipation. White people finally put Will Smith in chains. If Airtel wasn’t so foolish, I’d enjoy this movie in entirety. Looks okay. The comments on YouTube give one hope. Black Panther: WF. Nobody is paying me for reviews. I can’t type full sentences anymore. This was okay. I’m still wondering whether to see it in cinemas or the high seas. Right, I’ll see it along with the new Avatar. Hopefully the ticket price has dropped. Black Adam. Okay. It’s online, so… Inception. Watched it five times in the past plus this recap. Still overrated. Shutter Island. Still amazing after these years. A Cure For Wellness. I still loathe and can’t empathize with the protagonist. An enjoyable film because I delighted in watching him suffer. The recap didn’t do those parts justice. Memento. An average plot Nolan chose to overcomplicate. I’ll check The Prestige later. Dunkirk. I didn’t like it originally and still don’t like it. It’s a biography so the movie is “mid” as kids say. Most biographies are that way. Ladybird. Mid. Before I Fall. The gamble I made from too much data in 2017 is still how I remember it. A highly recommended movie which I wish bore a sequel to close plot holes. Then again, a wish brought to life is often disappointing. Edge Of Tomorrow. Highly recommended. I don’t need a recap for a film I’ve binged over ten times since first viewing. Tenet. I was straight-faced during this mindfuck’s original run. The recap didn’t help matters. It straightened things out, but guy. The Killing Of A Sacred Deer. This just popped into mind. Off I go. The Invitation. Ready Or Not with a black lead. Nope. Better experienced in entirety. I liked what I saw. I’ll wait for DStv to air it as I won’t waste data despite knowing it will entertain. |
