I don't even have an idea. The last thing I spoke about is racism in the EPL, and I was banned.

Very interesting thread on the front page.

https://www.nairaland.com/7500932/japa-propaganda-mindset-nigerian-youths

Nothing new has been said on the thread; the op is just one of the various people who assume they know but actually do not. I say he thinks he knows but he doesn't because he's generalizing based on the little he knows; probably he has seen those who "Japa" with no solid plan and how they've been stranded.

What he doesn't know is there are several other Nigerians who "Japa" and doing comfortably well abroad compared to what they had in naija. Personally I know at least 10 people(professionals) who have crossed to Canada, UK and Australia in the past 4 years and they are doing very very well. U just need to go to LinkedIn and see Nigerian professionals getting good placement in places like Canada.

The op on that thread believes everybody must stay to save Nigeria they did not join hands to spoil. He acknowledges things are very very bad under Buhari's government( He even admits we've not had it this bad since Nigeria was forged into one contraption called country) , yet he wants everybody to stay put and salvage a nation where forensic audits keep indicting public officers and nothing is being done. Recently EFCC was celebrating recovering N30bn out of over 90 billion stolen by the Accountant-General. That is the country the OP wants us to join hands , stay put and save. smh sad. A country where people like Orji Uzor Kalu keeps walking as a free man. Peter Odili literally went to court and got "perpetual injuction" stopping all security agencies including EFCC from ever investigating his time as governor. How do u abandon ur personal goals and say u want to stay back and save such a country ?

I must say, anybody thinking like that OP is just an idealistic FOOOOL! Bolanle Raheem the late female lawyer had her live cut off in her prime doing her bit as a law abiding citizen; yet the OP thinks we should all stay back and "fight for our country"

I used the word "interesting" to describe that article because I think the OP made some good points and then some terrible points. I mean he lost me on the part about religion but overall he did make some solid points.

I think the heading of his post did no justice to the body of his article. The funny thing is that the bulk of his post wasn't even necessarily talking about immigration and it's dangers but rather our individual roles on nation building.
Look at this excerpt for example which I concur with.

Are we forgetting that a government is a product of the society and the reflection of its people ?
If the government is bad, then we're bad as a people !

This very generation of Nigerian youths is worse than the current leaders of the pass/outgoing generation they're blaming.

At least, our current leaders did not practice Yahoo Yahoo, Yahoo plus, they did not steal women pants for money ritual, they didn't engage in kidnapping for quick money etc in their time. But this generation does and even far worst things. I'm not in anyway exhonorating them bcs they have really messed up this country. But this generation is now worst than them.

So you can see, this part centers on individualism. On how or what we can do to make the country better.

Take for example this, we all know ethnic jingoism and radical tribalism is bad, we know that this country has undergone a deadly war because of ethnic differences. Differences we are all supposed to outgrow. But worse still we have leaders drawn from us who make decisions based on tribal affiliations.

I'm sure that if me and you knew ourselves offline we would get along fine regardless of our tribal affliction. But now imagine a scenario where we both leave the country because of how bad it is, yet we keep on championing ethnic rifts and differences. We decide to keep being part of the problem.

So again, my interpretation of the OP's post was based on our individual efforts to see a better country not even the successes or failures of immigration. I think the caption and heading of the writers post did no justice to his post.

The online championing of ethnic jingoism is a farce . Most people u see online doing afonja, flat head , nyamiri and all those stuff are normal people offline who probably don’t have issues getting along with their neighbors who are from other tribes . Some people Yorubas u see calling Igbos flat head are even married to Igbos in real life .

On the internet people tend to become anyting they want ; that’s why one should not take most of the things that happen online to heart.

As regards our individual roles in nation building , I don’t see any point the op is trying to make . He can only speak for himself and not for everyone . He claims we don’t obey traffic rules here in naija but will do same abroad (among other things ) . How do u expect a citizen to obey traffic when some bloody Army seargent will carry his Toyota Corolla ; face one-way/BRT lane because he’s on uniform and nobody dares arrest him ? Does the same thing happen in the UK , US, Canada, etc ? U expect the people to subject themselves to the law while law enforcement agents would not make good examples ? We all saw videos of Ukrainians even during war time maintaining a single lane despite traffic . Will anybody wearing uniform or political office holder in naija join such traffic ?

I don't get you sticking your neck out for people who spew very hateful tribal vitriol. Does one give what he does not have? Why don't we see you, as a person also concocting disgusting words towards another tribe? Also dedicating Soo much time towards hurting others?
What is your basis for saying that someone who spews hate online, who concocts the most distasteful and disgusting words online don't do so offline??

Anyways, my reason for injecting this tribal differences talk is to highlight a way via which we in our own personal capacity can help the country get better. By seeing ourselves as one, not further heating up the polity.
The most effective method anyway is simply by electing good leaders.

Because the number one reason the country is almost lawless is because of our weak systems and institutions. Who is responsible for those weak systems and weak institutions? The politicians, who is responsible for the politicians, the masses.. so at the end of the day, the power to change the system lies in each and every one of us..

By politicians setting up strong institutions, we create a system of laws, a system of checks and balances that helps in creating an orderly society like the one's you listed

One of the reason why we must vote out APC in 2023, the insecurity in Nigeria is so worrisome and it tripled under their regime.

Teachers must be very wicked to be using koboko on head, yet I have seen it countless times in school. There was even one teacher that uses broken leg of school chair to flog students. Some teachers should not be allowed anywhere near children

Obi was asked pointedly and he dodged the issue rather gave excuses for them multiple times. He even claimed ESN was created by governors when its false

Mehn I guess it's the shock. The kind of stuff I'm seeing here, I've never seen it in my life before..
And I think on some levels, it helps to rationalize the fact that some human beings are not human beings anymore but just people without any sense of moral compass or right or wrong. They just exist..

Seeing such videos makes you understand that evil can befall anybody and you should have the right amount of mental preparation for any such occurrence.

For instance, you get to watch different reactions of people who are now aware that this is the end for them. They're just visceral reactions to the whole thing.
I'm not saying it should be promoted constantly but awareness to such barbarity cam be a good thing.

The media knows the man silently behind the ESN menace thats why they keep asking him. The same way they will ask Pep Guardiola about Man City and not about Fulham

When Tinubu was asked about agitators he didnt mince words unlike Obi

Tinubus response

They express their strong opposition to separatist agitations and hate speeches. While urging those indulging in such to desist forthwith, they renew their belief in the unity, stability and sustainability of the country.

We note with significant concern the security situation in the country. Terrorism and violent criminality threaten many areas, adversely affecting the lives and livelihoods of too many innocent and peace-loving Nigerians. While mindful of the resource and other constraints facing the nation, we urge the federal government to continue to make the necessary expenditures and allocate sufficient resources to enable the military and security agencies to tackle the difficult security challenges confronting us.
