If a determined president cannot fix Nigeria, what exactly will fix it?
We the people. When we put aside our petty and nonsense difference and decide for ourselves we want a country that works, one which we and our children that will come after us will be proud of.

If there are no laws, how do you expect anybody to put anything aside?

Any country that you admire has its citizens confined to laws. They did not wake up to put anything aside. The laws confined them to do so.

I have been trying to understand your point, and that was why i mentioned you.

If this is your opinion of a better country, it is not possible IMO, even in the US and UK

This is superlative nonsense I'm sorry to say.
How exactly do a people decide to "put aside differences and work for ourselves"?

Of course, I understand and agree with the sentiment but how exactly does that happen?
As I said earlier, it's theoretical superlative nonsense because this doesn't address the issue of bad governance and a systemic dysfunction we have in Nigeria. And Moreso there is no country on this planet where all the citizens are united but they still have strong systems at work.

America is deeply divided, like deeply deeply divided along ideological lines but they have a very solid institution and system that checks the powers of their politicians.

So the question still stands from disstroy, what are the practical solutions Nigerians can do on their part to see about the building up of strong institutions?

It is because of laws i won't take a one way despite the heavy traffic. Remove that law, and I'll find myself on the other side

It is because of laws that I won't forget a passport to travel abroad. When did we start expecting people to behave well outside of laws in this world?

Remove laws, and this whole earth would be upside down in a day.

That is among the issue. Our laws are porous, easily twisted and thwarted. It is among the things that is causing problems.

I'm sure, as you are sure, the countries we admire have religious laws enshrined in their constitution?

The countries we admire, their laws are enforced, devoid of sentiment or any religious or traditional attachment. In Nigeria, it is totally different...

Yahoo yahoo and rape are crimes committed all over the world. Like it's a crime present in all countries of the world because every human being has some sort of "bad quality" in them. This is still inconsequential to the quality of governance they experience in their country.

Brazil has a healthy democracy with a fairly strong economy but still has a high rate of individual crime, same with India.
What does individual crime have to do with the political system and quality of governance of a country?

You guys seem soo adept at painting Nigerians as worse than others which is why we have bad politicians. Bit that is simply not true.

Nigeria has bad politicians because a vast majority of it's population are not voter educated. And by that I mean that even the literate and educated populace are not yet fully informed as to the design and method of our political system, or desire to participate in them so our politics is merely relegated to a game of the minority in the society. In other words, many people simply ignore politics leading to the worst being elected.

I wonder when causing problems now translate to causing disaster. You obidient lot really like twisting people's words and giving your own interpretations.

Just because I post my pictures or I have my phone and WhatsApp number up, and my portfolio doesn't mean I want to share my itinerary.

Definitely not true since most yahoo boys in Nigeria are literally getting away with it.

Most laws and rules are put in place to protect you

You are a smart guy - there is 0 seat belt enforcement up north. Would you drive without a seat belt up north when you know that it will increase your risk in a collision?

Lasbca is in lagos to counter building collapse. Well with or without lasbca I have supervised multiple structures that did not collapse - because I don't want something my hand is in collapsing on a person's head. Or because my common sense is outweighing my greed and telling me this is what can happen.

When the synagogue collapsed tb joshua never faced consequences, though the engineers that built the place did.

Have you ever tried to drive into a Military barracks?

There is only one queue for cars, no matter how long it is. Nobody will tell you to join it, but everybody obeys and joins one queue

The same Nigerians that will cut lanes, climb sidewalks and cause traffic, will quietly join the queue when he wants to drive into a barracks.

Nobody needs to beg anybody to change. Just put laws and effect them. Then watch how this country will become sane.

Izzou and blueraydick, I expect an apology from both of you. There is nothing I did not say to prove to you guys how tinubu was running a highly tribal-charged campaign and running a politics of division as evidenced by those around him and hateful vitriol of his supporters.
You guys kept telling me tinubu is not a tribal person.

Well, he himself has come out to prove you wrong. Singling out a tribe for xenophobic and tribal narratives. As I said I expect that apology from you guys. Denying what was very obvious right from time.

Is the determined president responsible for making our porous laws? Once again, how will he fix it? By enforcing it? Once again, how will he enforce it when the agencies that are suppose to enforce the laws are corrupt to the brim.

In Nigeria, when laws are enforced, Nigerians groan and lament. They complain and attach religious and tribal sentiment to it.

I am asking izzou a simple question

There are laws against rape and yahoo yahoo in Nigeria, but we all see people get away with rape. If izzou commits either crime there is a 90% chance he will only get a slap on the wrist in Nigeria.

Izzou is not abstaining from this and other crimes because of laws, but because that is who he is

Izzou spoke months ago about his struggle. A large number of Nigerians would have used that as an excuse to go into crime.

The law is only one part of it.

That is why I spoke about nature vs nurture previously.

And citing the law assumes that the law is always just and in the service of all of us, which you know is not the case.

Izz.ou, you and dis.stroy are idealists and idealists don't prosper in Nigeria.

I'm an optimistic realist, not an idealist.

There's a workable pragmatic approach to Nigeria's problems.

First we have corruption and income generation issues.

Oil is still our top 2 source of income. Only 17% of drilled oil is accounted for. A determined President would ensure NNPC functions and those lost oil loopholes are blocked.
That solves corruption and increased GDP.

Next is ensuring strong institutions. Why are politicians jailed for corruption released in months? Why do Yahoo boys get 6 months imprisonment but a hungry man who stole ogbono soup jailed for 3 years. Strong institutions.

A determined president would ensure a welcome policy like the Whistle Blower policy of GMB doesn't die. That's help cut corruption.

But we don't need a determined president according to you.

Put your nosiness to good use, Shaqfu. Where exactly was Tinubu born? What primary and secondary schools did he attend? What are his siblings' names?

The country is bad because our institutions are weak, and our institutions are weak because the politicians who make them are terrible, the politicians are terrible because the masses responsible for electing them are largely ignorant of their roles and don't get to participate in the process that elects them hence leaving a group of politicians not accountable to the masses.

The institutions are weak. The penalties are soft.

A yahoo boy scams and gets 2 months imprisonment with an option of fine.

Make it 10 years with no option of fine. Sentence 5 people publicly, and see if it will not reduce

Once upon a time, people didn't care to use seat belts in Lagos. Today, the fear or 20k fine makes almost everybody use it

Asking for the people to willingly obey is just a pipe dream. Even in the abroad, laws confine them
