I'm an optimistic realist, not an idealist.

There's a workable pragmatic approach to Nigeria's problems.

First we have corruption and income generation issues.

Oil is still our top 2 source of income. Only 17% of drilled oil is accounted for. A determined President would ensure NNPC functions and those lost oil loopholes are blocked.
That solves corruption and increased GDP.
and who think the people who are behind those oil leakages will be happy with you? Especially when you know they're members of you political party and they pull more than enough political weight to make your presidency fail.

Next is ensuring strong institutions. Why are politicians jailed for corruption released in months? Why do Yahoo boys get 6 months imprisonment but a hungry man who stole ogbono soup jailed for 3 years. Strong institutions.
institutions that have been compromised?

If not for Onnoghen's removal, would we have known judges can be bribed?

A determined president would ensure a welcome policy like the Whistle Blower policy of GMB doesn't die. That's help cut corruption.

But we don't need a determined president according to you.
yes of course, after blowing the whistle, your details will be released and those whom you blew the whistle on will come avenging. Kindly note the police won't come to your rescue. They might even tell you they don't have fuel in their Hilux to use to come to your aid.

You think the UK or Japan has a LAW on jumping queues?

I asked concerning the funeral you mentioned

If you want to see Nigerians on queues without enforcement, go to BRT terminals or UNILAG front gate.

People stay on queues without being compelled

Yet you haven't been nosy enough to know anything about Tinubu's childhood but instead keep stealing teenage pictures of other people as passing it off as your candidates.

Put your nosiness to good use, Shaqfu. Where exactly was Tinubu born? What primary and secondary schools did he attend? What are his siblings' !names?

Do some good with your nosiness. Get these details and put them behind a paywalled site like Subtrack and you'd make money. Be determined.

You are just here and there sir.

You have identified the problem we have as porous laws, and you are still asking how anybody can enforce it.

So, the people will wake up one morning and start paying electricity bills without tampering with the meters? This is laughable.

Remove the laws in UK and US, and they will bypass anything and cut corners.

I don't know if I am an idealist, but your solution can never work anywhere on earth. Maybe in another planet, though

Yet even with the laws in the US, Congress was invaded by people who in a way, are not different from NANS, who went to prevent people from traveling in the airport.

of course, laws keeps us in check, 200 million people won't change overnight because they're so use to living and breaking the law.

Imagine Rufai Oseni, who drove on BRT lane harassing an police officer and threatening him with calling the governor. Kindly note, he's a coded Peter Obi supporter oh.

Rufai used the lane because he knew the laws were weak, and the institutions were not strong (he had the option of calling the governor in his mind, to override the law)

Let the law be forfeiture of vehicle if you pass the BRT lane. Let the government use people as examples, including people in power

I am sure you have seen pictures of Japanese and brits queueing without any enforcement. We even saw this during the queen's funeral.

Can the average Nigerian wait patiently in a queue till his turn?

It starts from the way Nigerians are brought up, and the values instilled in them by society

A person is well brought up because of the values instilled in them from home and by society through LAWS. The reason why a person would not rape or steal even when they can is because of the laws they grew under, laws which have conditioned them to respond in specific ways to specific situations. Of course, it doesn't mean that there won't be instances where children that have been properly brought up will go against their default conditioning, but it's rare, and if you look deep enough, you'd find there probably was a chink in their up bringing which the prarents missed or overlooked.

I think the problem here is u want to so much be able to say “I told u so!” . That’s probably why u didn’t see the mischief of the writer of that news piece for people’s Gazette .

The author quoted Tinubu’s speech and nowhere did he mention “Igbo’s overcrowding Lagos “ or any of the xenophobic tribal narratives u are arrogating to Tinubu . What Tinubu said is basically normal political talks aspirants say to demarket other aspirants ; in fact most of what he said at the event should not be new to u cos it has been repeated over and over on this thread.

Tinubu threw a dog at Obi that Anambran’s have overcrowded Lagos because Peter Obi their former governor didn’t do much to develop the state ; instead he only saved money while Anambrans are hungry . Nowhere did Tinubu single out the Igbo tribe like the author of the article alluded .

Saying Peter Obi didn’t do well in Anambra resulted in Anambrans trooping to Lagos is not the same thing as denigrating a whole tribe ( like u always say ) . Except u and the author are saying the moment Tinubu threw a dig at Peter Obi over his time as Anambra governor ; that Tinubu has already insulted all igbos .

I think what u are doing here is no different from what BATists have been doing trying to make at least one corruption allegation stick on Obi despite him not having a records of him being charged officially for any corruption case . I am not the greatest fan of Tinubu , but I don’t like to just form scenarios in my head just to paint him bad .

exactly what I'm saying. Knowing the laws are weak, yet you still do the right thing. Not break the law and start claiming to be a saint when you're far from it.

In this country, obeying the law and doing what is right will make people see you as a fool.

Come to think of it, Lagos state government have started impounding vehicles of traffic offenders. I remember the case of one guy who broke traffic law, his vehicle was auctioned only for Twitter users to start calling for people to make contributions to him to help him buy another vehicle.

I get the point you're making, but will Tinubu say this same thing to an Atiku?

Him saying that Anambarians have left their state because of Peter Obi, what stat his he drawing from to make that assumption, none. What if people from Anambra are in fact the least populated Igbos in Lagos? Him referring to people from Anambra is him in fact referring to all Igbos, cause I'm very sure he's not working based off any stat to have come to the conclusion he has.

This thing Tinubu and others on Nairaland say is a form of ethnic dog whistling, while it's understandable if people on Nairaland not contesting for president of Nigeria to say it, it's totally out of place for Tinubu to be caught saying same.

That is why it’s all politics talk . U hit ur opponent where u think it will pain more . There has been talks of Obi residing in Lagos ( Which to me is no big deal cos most past governors are not under any compulsion to continue to reside in their state after their term in office . Fayose of Ekiti lives here in same Lagos ) .

Atiku and his Mikano boys attack Tinubu steady based on his obvious ill health , his gaffes and fraudulent claim of building Lagos .

Almost everything Tinubu said at the venue has been repeated here by Tinubu supporters over and over again. It doesn’t necessarily make it true or false . Tinubu is only trying to win votes by saying Obi is responsible for Anambrans trooping to Lagos .

If anybody is seeing that as tribalism aimed at all Igbo’s , I guess the writer of the people Gazette’s piece was successful to have twisted the narrative as against what he quoted in the body of the news piece .

So which people of repute are enforcing the laws on one ways in Lagos?

One of the best electrical cables to use are Made in Nigeria ones (You can ask around). So which people of repute ensured that these cables are manufactured up to standard?

Suddenly, we don't have air crashes like before again. Which people of repute did FAAN hire to keep these checks in place?

LASTMA for one. Atleast you don't see them often in the media for being as money grovelling as the Police.

I won't know about that. It's not my field. But I'm sure S.O.N is doing a good job in that aspect.

Airplane crashes is extreme. Let's start with delayed flight, without apology to the customer, lost of luggage, genuine bad attitude from airline customer care reps.

I so much try to avoid people that play the tribalism card all over the place, and they are lowkey coded tribalist.

Any small thing, tribalism. Any small movement to have a meaniful argument, tribalism.

And their comments anywhere you see them in any political talk is lowkey laced with tribalism.

If a Yoruba man supports Tinubu, he is a tribalist, but if an Igbo man supports Obi, it is because he wants the best for Nigeria.

ABEG! You all are Hypocrites. Hypocrisy all over the thread!

And any small thing, you all are already shouting Tribalism. Can I go a day without reading it on this thread?

Just as we spoke about Real estate investment on this thread yesterday

Someone yesterday In Nigeria was telling me how a tenant in their boys quarters did illegal bypass electricity connection so he can avoid paying bills and the boys quarters caught fire from an electrical issue burning 3 other units

So the landlords investment is gone. And it's not like many people in Nigeria have insurance

So what are you going to do about that one now? That tenant will also claim Nigeria is corrupt while he can't even do what's right to his landlord

Seankafor every transaction in the world involves certain level of trust. The bank you are keeping your money how do you know they are not planning to run away with your deposit? The bus you enter how do you know the driver knows how to drive and he's not going to plunge you into a river? The mama put you eat how do you know she's not serving you with rotten animals?
The example of the nepa illegal connection do you expect Nepa to be coming into every house in Nigeria to be checking your connection daily to protect them

BTW Sean Ive been trying to ask for some time? did you resolve your project issue? NYSC and job market next right?

And how did you know your supervisor will read the work and not give your project to another student

You see the trust chain in every transaction you do

Even driving is based on the trust that those in opposite lane won't suddenly swerve to face you at speed
project done and dusted, although as per naija system, a lot of money has to change hands sad

But I'm not a graduate yet oo, still got some other shiits to do as per clearance..

That igbos leave their bad land and come to Lagos to constitute nuisance.

In this post below, take note of where he warns; "TAKE NOTE OF THOSE THAT SELL FAKE MERCHANDISE".
Blueray which tribe is usually steroetyped as sellers of fake goods in market??
