All these aren't what I care about but how affordable and sustainable it will be henceforth! How much is it? Does anybody here know? How safe is it? How efficient is it to get tickets and can the masses afford it? That would do us a great deal of good. That's what we need this should have been available and improved upon since time immemorial nothing new here. Let anyone that has info on the above questions asked supply the answers please so that we can all benefit. Thank you.

Shut up. The advanced world trains fly underground. Go read up about metro line.

This advanced world, how much is their GDP, how much is Lagos'? Countries that qualify as 'advanced' in this world are barely close to 25 out of close to 200 countries in the world.

Asides from the novelty factor of the trains being underground, are we not inching towards achieving the same objective? If we build undergrounds today - asides from the fact that they are way more expensive, are we culturally ready for such?

Before we run, we must first walk.

COMPAQ:

Stop hanging on to the Nigeria of 1970. Nigeria of today cannot afford bullet trains. Not every country in Europe has bullet train. America has no bullet train, UK has no proper bullet train (high speed, yes, bullet no). I have taken train from London to Manchester and London to Bournemouth and also Lagos to Ibadan. While I would say the UK one was a bit more modern than the Lagos Ibadan train, but not by a whole lot. However, ours was equally as comfortable, but much slower.

Even if corruption in Nigeria were to be zero, Nigeria is still a relatively poor country by per capita standards. Yes, we would get a lot more done, but not to the extent of bullet trains. Its easy to compare Nigeria to Kuwait, UAE, Saudi etc but look at the population difference alone!! Nigeria is 220mln, UAE is 10mln while Kuwait is 3mln. That means Nigeria is 22times more populous than UAE. And both of them produce more oil than we do.

That is like comparing a man with salary of 500k a month with 3 kids and another man with same N500k a month with 66kids!!!

This false sense of "we are a rich country" is what continues to keep Nigeria poor as we continue to subsidize petrol. What Nigeria could do in terms of subsidy in 1980 with population of 70mln and maybe 5mln cars on the roads cannot be the same in 2023 with 220mln people and maybe 30mln cars on the roads!!

We have to face up to our current reality and adjust our ways of managing this economy!!

You forgot to mention that even our cost of producing oil is about $30 per barrel compared to Saudi Arabia's $3 per barrel. Nigeria is a poor country - we have just refused to accept that fact.

You don't know the difference between train station and airport. Why having a local airport when the federal one is properly maintained by the state government not federal. Built by Obiano who called your candidate a liar. The only feasible achievement.

Has the airport significantly turned around the fortunes of Anambra compared to a -gasp ' mere Free Trade Zone, and the deepest Sea-Port in West Africa?

Don't worry, when we are done with our new airport in Lekki, we would have this conversation again.

You are a small, ignorant kid full of lip, so let me school you.

A metro system is an intra-city network that may or may not have underground tracks depending on several factors as earlier mentioned.

There is nothing particularly 'advanced' about having underground lines, as all it takes is digging and tunnelling. The British were doing this over 100 years ago using antiquated machinery.

They make more sense in cold, temperate climates where the enclosure underground provides natural heating, and are very costly in humid, tropical nations with their need for expensive 24/7 cooling and ventilation systems.

NIGERIA is ranked among the few African nations with a metro system, one in Lagos and the other in Abuja.

There are 'advanced' European and Asian nations, and nations in the Americas, with NO metro systems, as shown in this map.

I am not even a peter obi candidate but he is better than the other two contesting with him (he's a lesser evil). At this point in time in naija what we need is true federalism or regional system of government. It will address all the development issues all-over the country. Imagine if TIN can, MM International, the sea port and other federal infrastructure were directly in control of by yoruba people(sw) same with peo0lenin other regions like oil in SS,Gas in SE, Food in NC, minerals in NE & NW and pay a certain percentage to the federal to maintain foreign policy & territorial security, oversight governance etc. We would be better in 10years time. That to me is what Nigeria needs but unfortunately none of the candidates have mentioned such except sowore. Meaning including peter obi they are all rogues who just want to there for their own personal betterment.

If you strip away all the mutual verbal abuse, what he is trying to communicate to you is that a subway system does not always make sense. Not all cities have them in what you term the "advanced world". Lagos is a low-lying coastal city with most of its coastline being at or below sea level. Digging underground tunnels that wouldn't flood and kill everyone in them would not be impossible, but would be incredibly complex and prohibitively expensive. Most other cities with such topography opt for an above ground metro system. It is simply more sensible.

Secondly, we are all well aware that we are not an "advanced world" country. We cannot afford to build "advanced world" systems for the most part. According to travelstatsman.com, it would cost around $325 billion to build the equivalent of the London Underground today. If it were to be built in Lagos, it would cost at least twice that because we would have to import virtually all the materials and much of the expertise. Please, where would the whole of Nigeria, much less Lagos, find that kind of money? The Lagos metro is fit for purpose, and built within the limitations of topography and budget. Let us celebrate it and pray for more.

You think importation is a measure of development, it's actually the other way round, because it's a one of the major indices affecting our economy and local development, you reckon trading in 2x2 shops is developing a place and buying a shop is real estate. grin This deluded interpretation of Lagos development only exists in the minds of ignorant rabble rousing Igbo folks like you. U can't even read and project what I'm implying correctly.

Importation is not development? u dont know every country imports? Even America imports heavily.

The problem is when u don't export also.

yes micro economics is vital for development even more than over industrialization unless the industries are government run or owned.

Dangote and dantata are not doing charity they are there to make their money like shell, total and chevron are doing in ND with corruption and poverty still prevalent there.

Lagos has been well developed b4 dabgote and dantata not because of them or such industries.

Look at ajakuta and other places that industries have run aground and learn from such environments.

Look no one is expecting underground metro in Lagos (one can dream) but enough of the excuses as to how it can't happen specially the one regarding Lagos being a low-lying coastal city, Rotterdam is 90% below sea-level and they have a metro network with numerous stations underground, damn even Jakarta and Bangkok both low-lying coastal cities have underground metro networks. Alexandria in Egypt another low-lying coastal city are building their underground metro network by the Chinese costing them $1.5bn, so that ridiculous estimated cost of $325 Billion for Lagos, c'mon.
