Anybody whose parents have ever lost funds to dem SGBN, Savanah banks, etc of yesteryears will not be keeping reasonable sums of money in all these Kuda, palmpay and the likes in this Nigeria.

See ehn, normal Nigerian commercial banks like First bank, Union Bank, etc are not well run despite all the talks about corporate governance and what have u. Some of these banks, the only reason why they are still existing is the fact that CBN has made it a thing to bail them out when they run into problem with AMCON buying some of those debts on behalf of the government cos government knows if such banks fail it will have a rippling effect on the economy. ( this has been the case since the bank consolidation done back in 2015)

So people wey dey keep their funds with these new fintech/digital banks dey really get mind gan o. The government through CBN does not really offer them bail out like they do the regular traditional commercial banks and just one major issue person go just get cardiac arrest kick bucket.

I travelled to my village recently, it was quite interesting to hear some of the takes from the local dwellers concerning this election and the ipob issue.

One could feel for the first time, staunch opposition to ipob and it's ideology.

The thing is, in previous years, it was very easy to sell the ideology of ipob because at the base of the secessionist movement was a generally acceptable fact that the igbos were a group that were marginalized or outrightly hated by the other tribes or more directly, the people at the center. It must be noted that buhari's divisive nature didn't help at all. Calling igbos 5 percenters or dot in a circle or the outright tweet that led to the banning of Twitter.

All these helped to galvanize a feeling of resentment or aggreviance in the east and many people were looking for anything that will help solve that issue.

When nnamdi kanu started this ipob movement circa 2016, he did win a lot of goodwill amongst the general masses including non-easterners alike who were sympathetic to igbo's plight. People genuinely thought that this guy who quite frankly appeared intelligent and had a good command of oratory would be able to lead a movement that will democratically address the political challenges of the region. The guy gained massive popularity.

Long story short, along the way he decided to be as foolish, shortsighted and violent. I've never seen someone shoot his foot Soo many times.

This guy became more popular than every single eastern governor at one point. A rallying point for all easterners across state lines. He could have formed a political party and endorsed candidates of like minds that will speak with one voice and voice the concerns of the region but he decided to do the most stupid thing. Make his people apathetic to the Democratic process. Telling them to stay at home during elections, Turn against his own people,
Arm uneducated youths to fight the "Fulani army", flood the east with black market arms and deceive gullible people. He turned out to be the very villain he fought against.

The common easterner was either for them or silent, because they felt perhaps that even if kanu was bad, he seemed to be the only one doing ANYTHING at all about the situation. So they stood by and watched as the movement became more radicalized and the region started feeling the effects of the radicalization.

That was until now, with obi's emergence, there seems to be a uniquely different rallying cry. A blinker of hope and belief in the nigerian project again which has been bastardized by very bad leaders. and the average easterners are beginning to speak up loudly against kanu.

I was listening to radio in my car at the villa and the presenter basically stripped kanu naked, calling him a curse upon the land, an emperor who has no clothes. This kind of narrative before would be very difficult to hear or see before.

The local easterners are euphoric at the mere idea that an igbo man can be the president of this country. That people of other tribe in Nigeria would accept an igbo man for that position. People who always felt disaffected with the country are latching unto the hope that the obi presidency will bring healing to the region and an end to the ipob menace once and for all.

Disclaimer; some of the above points are made by people during countless interactions with people based at home.
Personally I couldn't care less about tribal identification but there are people in the east for who being igbo in Nigeria seems to be a truly big deal for them. People who fought as soldiers in the war, people who suffered some form of violence from places they had emigrated to within Nigeria and lost it all to violence and people who have inherited the disenchantment of the region.

I see 360 for Lagos today.

Even the 189 stations are now selling 250+

It's even good like that. The moment the scarcity started hitting Lagos, Buhari at least woke up from his slumber and set up a 14 man committee to look into it.

When it was just us in the South, no one cared. Hopefully as the scarcity bites harder in Lagos, we will soon have some respite.

I was watching an interview on channels yesterday, someone from ipman said the realistic price of petrol without subsidy at 80 dollar per barrel and 750 naira to a dollar is about N650 naira per litre grin

We should brace up for tougher times ahead cheesy

Obasanjo fought in the war and later became the president. Obasanjo's government in its early years had MASSOB agitations here and there, then there was OPC causing problems and other insecurity challenges in other parts of the country like the Niger Delta.

OBJ while dealing with these non state actors didn't make it seem like he was favouring one over the other. OBJ had Gani Adams stripped to his trousers, paraded in handcuffs and his pictures gracing the pages of national dailies. OBJ dealt with Uwuzurike and throw him inside cell throwing away the key grin. The Niger deltans weren't spared as well; we still recall the unfortunate incident in Odi town in Bayelsa.

In all of this, OBJ was running his government without people feeling he was persecuting them while his own people who are criminals run amok like we have in the case of Buhari and the killer herdsmen.

Then there's this way anything Buhari says just come offpoint. Maybe cos English is not his 3rd language, I don't know sha.

On the contrary, I believe he is the frontrunner. I believe that in a free and fair election, obi wins it outright. He is the most popular candidate of the 3.

Others are hoping on governors rigging the numbers and I want to believe that there wouldn't be room for that, but what do I know, it's only 24 days ahead.

And most importantly, there has to be a strong alliance between himself and another strong politician from the North like Kwankwaso to stand a realistic chance.

Difficult as it is to admit, what they are doing right now is just handing over the presidency back to APC.

Cos if Atiku pull numbers in the north, Tinubu southwest and some insignificant numbers in the north ; with Obi doing his thing in the South south and southeast, I doubt if we won't have a second ballot.

There are more than a thousand languages and you decided to speak facts bro.
Buhari did absolutely nothing to foster unity in this country.
I also admire your accurate knowledge of historical perspectives. Obasanjo constantly treated everybody's fvck up equally. Jonathan treated all regions fairly. Buhari is the only president who has constantly denigrated a particular region and this is why I also dread a tinubu presidency because if you listen attentively, you also see hear the denigration and negative posturing towards the region. His latest bread crumb statement indicative of that.
I just pray we get it right in 3 weeks time.

Arguably the most interesting debate/argument/discussion last week on this thread was about fuel scarcity and price inflation, and the dearth of naira notes to spend.

I barely engaged but it is was fun reading occasionally and revealing too.

Revealing and fun. You know why? The unrepentant Buharists-cum-Tinubuists who have seen the destructive effects of a sickly aloof megalomaniac president were also complaining bitterly. Pages after pages of complain.

And I shook my head. These people don't recognize the cognitive dissonance in not seeing the similarities between Buhari and Tinubu - of how both blame everyone else but themselves. Of being surrounded by crooks who'd take advantage of I'll health and absence.
But emi lokan regardless. The irony...

Some of those northern states are just like Oyo and Osun states where u have both APC and PDP as strong parties deeply rooted in the states irrespective of who is the governor. Bear in mind that some of those electorates have tasted serious hardship for the past 8 years under Buhari's APC.

Some of those governors would be unable to influence their people to vote for APC particularly when there are PDP guys on ground to amplify their suffering under APC government. I'm not saying Tinubu's APC won't get votes there too, but it may not really be significant enough for him to be declared winner at first ballot. That's why I'm saying a second ballot election may show face

I was referring to both particularly, and of course, they should know. Probably more than 10 pages of complains from both last week and I did skim through.

You are crying about hardship brought on by a president who believes he can do no wrong and is above everyone else yet, in the same vein, you are supporting an even more sickly candidate with cognitive issues who shares the very traits of Buhari you are complaining about?

It's like women complaining about being maltreated by bad boys but jumping into the bed of the next bad boy who says "hi" while complaining about the previous bad boys. Cognitive dissonance.

The irony is lost on them. But they'd learn eventually even more than what they've learnt. The good thing is, we all have relatives all over the country.
