But in 2001 the hijacked plane was shot down over Pennsylvania and left just a small footprint. Why would anyone buy this? They may as well let the balloon go... afterall.... it was only 12 miles to exit the US after traveling thousands of miles over the mainland.
Are they too busy fighting abroad and left the homeland unprotected? ... where the defense radars not capable of recognizing a breach of airspace at that height? Maybe it was in fact a weather balloon .... but China was using it to test vulnerabilities in the US defense system?
