Na them cause Russia-Ukraine war that affected the price of wheat? Another thing is demand as a result of insecurity. Imagine droves of people moving from violent regions to safer places, the demand for housing in those safe areas will increase. Meanwhile, the supply has stagnanted, thus leads to an increment in rent prices. Additionally, if there is a major redevelopment within the area, it's logical that the rents should be increased. Aka gentrification.

A "self-contain" apartment in my Lokogoma estate here in Abuja, is 500K (at least). And before apartments are given out, the estate management does proper checks and questioning just to be sure of your source of livelihood, cause the safety and security of the other occupants is paramount.

The question is why do you need an agent to rent a place to stay? Even if you need an agent it's the landlord's responsibility to pay the agent.

Example in a country somewhere in North America and I'm speaking from first person experience...the landlord pays the agent to find the right tenant.

To be honest this problem is the people's fault... In other words even if buhari or obi or tinibu or Atiku makes a law that says no agent fees, nigerians will still pay agent fees or bribe to get a place for rent.

Dollars is ridiculously too big to the naira. A senior Civil Servant that has official cook, driver, car and house is earning less than $700 a month.

Caution 50k
Service charge 50k

Them tell the agents they won't give them the full Commission, it will be 30k or 40k

Those agents work hand in hand, they may be 2 to 3 or 4 agents on one house

Then those ones add another 50k to 100k

You'll realise the rent and the extra charges are the same or even more
