Thought I should share my IW process here.
I initially picked Abuja for my physical interview, filled the form in August 2022. When the 48 months extension news was announced, I was excited but sadly Abuja was really slow, after 10 days (Jan 5-16) of not getting a confirmation email to proceed, I switched to Lagos by creating a new DS 160 form got a new application number which I filled in the CGI portal, within 2 days I got a confirmation email.
My visa expired Feb 6, 2019, so I had to get a date before Feb 6, 2023, on the 19th of January by sheer luck, I got January 24th for document submission.
Timeline
Submission at DHL office VI-Jan 24
Created- Jan 25
Approved- Jan 31
Issued - Feb 3rd.
Picked up- Feb 7th

My cousin's old mom was denied a B1/B2 non-immigrant visa yesterday. The guy is based in USA. He has a green card. He's been there for over 13 years. The mom is about 80 years. I took her there yesterday for her interview, but they turned me back and said she will be the only one to go in.

Later she came out with the international passport and a blue paper. I asked what happened and she said the white guy asked what does she do in Nigeria. She said she's a widow and she doesn't do anything (don't know if they expect an 80 year old woman to be working)

They asked how long her son has been there, and she said over 13 years.

They finally asked what she was going to USA to do, and she said she wants to go visit her son(for visit)

They told her she wasn't qualified.

Because they thought she will take advantage of the US health care system at her advanced age, and since her son is a green card holder they would think why is he not visiting her.

I stumbled into this approach here and it worked for me...


Hi, I believe you dissociated your dependents from your profile. You need to follow the steps below:
1. When you login into your account, confirm that the family details tile shows “0”. If yes, then you will get a date shortly. If not, go to step 2 below.
2. Call or have a live chat with CGI, let them know about dissociation of dependents from your account and how they have gotten an IW date but you have not. They will ask for some details (passport and email) and they will review your account. Once they notice the family details tile is showing a number other than zero, they will ask if every dependent had been totally removed. If you confirm that, they will escalate your case to the embassy to clear the number. You will get a new case opened and it should be resolved in a week. Finally, you will go through the process of getting a IW date and in 24hrs you should receive the email to select a date.

This was was my experience and I noticed send several notes through the feedback option was a longer process.

She dropped off her passport at DHL Victoria Island and picked it upon Friday, 3rd February 2023 with a 221G slip asking her to come to US Consulate General, Lagos for an interview but there was no date stated. The DHL officer asked her to book an appointment via ustraveldocs.com. I tried to book a normal interview for her but we were unable to do that because the portal does not recognise her MRV again.

There is also no followup interview link/pop up on her CGI page.

She went to the embassy with the 221g slip and was told to send a mail to LagosNIV@state.gov but we have not received any response from them.

Please any advise on what to do?

I got a J1 Visa to the USA in June 2022 which expired in December 2022, hence I am qualified for IW, I want to apply for renewal via IW, I paid my SEVIs fee in May 2022 is that payment still valid for this application. Also how much is the visa renewal fee is it the same amount as a new visa. At what point do I pay the visa renewal fee is it before or after filing firm DS 160

Generally the US health care system is not free like you have in the UK or Canada, but you have programs like Medicare for seniors and she can also use emergency services in hospitals. My opinion is just speculation on why she was denied at her age which before is unusual but Nigeria don cast now even elderly people dey japa.
