did you not say buhari created a policy of grow what you eat? eat waht yoiu grow?

what has the price of rice in the international market got to do with that?

you want to use that analogy when buhari has people buying N10,000 with N11000
when independent marketers are buying diverted fuel from major marketers
when we have rice mills and rice is now close to 50k for a full sized bag?

buharis only achievement is completion of projects - though the question is - at what cost

Ok sir. So you think an importer will go to Thailand without import waiver and all to buy rice and he will bring it to Nigeria and sell it below what we are currently buying it? I am open to learning. If you can educate me on this I will be very happy.
Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Theflint1(m): 10:03am On Feb 08, 2023

So many if you look at it from a broader perspective. It has boast local production. More factories came up which in turn equal employment
Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by GloriousGbola: 10:05am On Feb 08, 2023
buhari has failed completely and the past week is testament to his incompetence

for reasons best known to him he decided to implement a poorly thought out scheme that has left millions of nigerians in a desperate situation.

my mother called from ilorin - things are bad there. people queueing in bank and only being paid 3k. no one outside of your major cities does or understands transfer. they are all cash based people.

a lot of people are also going to be defrauded as they are giving kids access to their accounts so they can help initiate transfers.

this is what buhari has wrought

The question is why did he do it like this?
Is this how he has been doing things? If it is how come you guys never raised that issue till now?
If it isn't then what made this policy different?

Do you know how many times we have discussed Meffy fx policy on this thread?

so you are admitting that the so called agricultural initiative failed

according to you, it is an achievement of Buhari's administration

if it was, no one would be importing rice. it would not be economically viable to do so.

Ok. I mentioned Buhari because I want you to see how things were before Buhari came in.

He really tried in the Agricultural Sector. He came up with grow what you eat and eat what you grow. Fertiliser plants have really sprang up so also rice mills. I think before now we are the largest importer of rice from Thailand (1st position) but now we are down down below or not even in the rating anymore. You know Agriculture is also a means of foreign exchange.

Infrastructure too. He did well here too.

Social Investment Programme. He did very well here too especially when Osinbajo was the handling it.

These are the few I can remember for now.

He actually did well in some sectors, infact better than most of his predecessors but he has fùcked up the economy with inconsistent policy.

Funny enough, most of these policy were in conjunction with the CBN.

aboki fx was the villain in that story. in this story it is the bankers. yesterday it was the marketers
Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Theflint1(m): 10:10am On Feb 08, 2023
Nigerians should be alert to the shenanigans of the leaders of the APC and their supporters, all this talk of blaming Buhari for being deceived or whether the buck stops at his table or not is absolute nonsense. Anyone with two brain cells to rub together should have known Nigerians were in for it 1 year into this mans tenure.

so where are the RESULTS and the gains? how is it that after all is said and done rice costs more?
is that how you define success?

The reason why rice is costly currently is major because of cost of production, insecurity and inability to meet demand.

While our rice production has gone up, it is still unable to meet local demand, when you join it with the ban on importation of rice, rice becomes scarce which in turn shoot up the price.

I was only showing you the gains of the policy. I was only trying to tell you government doesn't have to subsidised rice for her population anymore since we can grow ours and we are doing fine.

If only you will see these things from a broader perspective. One of the things I am even happy about all these is the employment opportunities it has created for our youths.

That's what I'm telling him, Meffy will mess up his own policy and then look for people to blame for the mess.

Theres a ban on importation of rice. The foreign rice you see is brought in by smugglers in partnership with our corrupt custom officers.

I am afraid to say all these things I am saying outside because people can be very emotional. If only people will be less emotional and see things differently.

Even here, I mind what I say. Insults left, right and centre. Insults doesn't kill.

Which is a very good policy. How can you be importing what you can produce. It doesn't make any sense gaskiya.

Normally it shouldn't be the case, this one na only him know why he thinks other stakeholders should input in a policy that will impact on the country and then gives a 3 month deadline.

Yes. Good policy but poor execution again.

The first time the price of rice shoot up was when he banned importation of rice. Rice is our staple food that almost every eat, it's not a luxury food. The ban means the rice coming into the country is limited and it was through smuggling so the price went off the roof. If we had a near sufficient producing capacity for rice before the ban, the price won't shoot up like that.

Thankfully, there has been immense investment in the rice business both from the Govt (Fed and State) and investors which has significantly increase our production. The price of rice is already going down, last week when I inquired it was about 31k. Still very high and it will still take some years before we get back to pre Buhari price (if we ever get there)

Like me, I stay in a remote area. Those small holders farmers (, rice) will take their produce to the market and sell it without competition from foreign rice. Is a win win situation. At least is a source of livelihood.

Come to the north. People are making it big in agriculture.

I have called Buhari out on insecurity and him not managing situation very well but he has his good sides also.

It is a game, pure game. SC simply comes to the rescue of Buhari and Emefiele coz they've really messed up so much to come to the media and announce further extension.

Nigerians will rejoice and appreciate SC judgement I believe - a win win for everyone.
