Science is the study of nature and how it affects everything. What's religion? Man's quest to discover nature and how it affects him.

Earlier scientists were all religious priests. Even JuJu is called African science.

That's because both are based on observation and faith. Both observation and faith are empirical.

The only difference is that religion sees everything from God's perspective because religion attributes nature to an intelligent designer whereas science sees everything from nature's perspective. Just that science hasn't gotten to the point of proving how nature began.
