I have been working on my next project to be started on the 10th of this month. This naira change is something else even a basket of Okro price has been slashed to 2500. But we move since we don’t harvest once like maize farmers. Hope you’re all getting set? The rain is fast approaching

Is this the basket that goes for 2500?

Made my first sales last week Saturday, I was not happy with the sales. Took one of the women selling efo tete in the street to my farm, she harvest all the grown efo tete and she told me my money is N700. I was not happy at all cos I know she will sell all those efo for nothing less than N6000 when she get to town. I collected the N700 and made up my mind never to sell for anyone of those women again.
So today I just went to pluck few, use a small rope to bind them into 5 places, before I could get home from the farm, I sold everything. I have to go back to farm to pluck more and I placed it in front of my wife's shop, she sold everything and more people are still coming to ask for more saying it looks very fresh and bigger than what they used to buy before.
I'm happy I made N3700 sales today, I'm going to pluck more tomorrow

Retail marketing is the best dear brother. Those market women are cheaters who will always take advantage of you. Try to work and on where to sell your vegetable on retail apart from your wife's shop if your vegetable farm is producing more

The ridges were only renewed where flooding occur during the last time we planted rice on the land. The rest of the Okro was planted on ridges made last year.

Due to the fact that we have a running stream that cut across the land we were able to irrigate with the help of gravity and technical know-how . Zero fuel used

Sprouting of seed began as of 15th. The secret of the rapid sprouting of seed is pre germination which is soaking the seed for 5hrs before planting.

I must say this project has been started since the beginning of the year due to the fact that the chemicals both herbicide and pesticide to be used were already ready even before we embarked on it. We all need to prepare ahead and seek guidance

Herbicide used after planting was 2-4Dimethyl amine and glyphosate. First application of insecticide will be 5 days after germination but wait till insect attack before you start spraying your insecticide.

With the use of good seed I was able to attain 95% germination rate . The seeds were planted in double row on each bed and 4-5 seed placed in each hole.

Please don’t forget good seed and your management will determine your optimum yield. Don’t joke with your investment by getting anyhow seed o I pray we don’t waste our money and effort on a fruitless project. Gracias 🙏

Yes I am. It is what the market accept, cheaper to get in terms of cost and the yield is great under good management.

One of our major problem in farming business is inability to do proper & intensive market research with plan A,B & C before starting the farm.
There are 3 basic forms of selling farm produce
1) Fresh product sales
2) Process product sales
3) Seeds /seedlings products sales

The 3 above must be carefully looked into.
Farming business is much more than just being good at farm management.

Remember crops sustain animals.
Food is a NECESSITY

Imiforce was the first insecticide used due to the presence of whiteflies. I will be alternating between imiforce , vanguish and cypermethrin weekly.
Re: Diary Of An Okro Farmer by Jub101(m): 5:26am On Feb 23, 2023
Spraying of insecticide should be done once a week, preferably a day should be chosen within a week for the task. And if high infestation is noticed the quantity of insecticide can be increased
Re: Diary Of An Okro Farmer by Jub101(m): 5:28am On Feb 23, 2023
I use 20ml of imiforce in 20L knapsack sprayer and if it’s vangush or cypermethrin it should be between 40-50ml in 20L knapsack sprayer

Also do try to check on your plant at least twice in a week to know what is happening to it and how you can quickly intervene. Remember your management determines your yield.

It depends on the stage of the plant. Is it at vegetative stage or about to fruit stage?
