.it is IPOB you want to take on..........it is time we all take a course in conflict resolution and management! Wishful thinking will not take us out of the mess our wishy washy politicians have landed us in.......my humble take!!!

IPOB is one of the world most deadliest terrorist group and must be crushed with every might. If you like Ipob so much invite them to your state and live with them.

I have not seen you promote Peter Obi here o! all you do here is to quarrel like a spiteful first wife!

That shouldn't be your concern. You want him to promote animals and criminals called Igbos.

For once have self esteem and get out of here.

Mike Orihedịmma— The First Man to Start Igbo Movies in the whole world.

His real name is Solomon Eze. Popularly known as Mike Orihedịmma.

Popular Nollywood stars such as John Okafọ—Mr Ibu, Ngọzi Ezeọnụ, Stephen Alajemba (Ụwaezuoke), etc came into movie life through him.

Mike Orihedịmma started in the 70s. He was a friend with Oliver De Coque. According to him in his interview with Ugwumba TV, he said while Oliver was playing guitar and ekpiri, he was playing mouth organ.

Oliver would finally got sponsored in 1975 and release his album, expo 76. He too went in search of sponsor and couldn't get any even though he had recorded songs and produced them in cassettes.

He noticed that it would make sense if films were produced in Igbo. He had watched Indian movies, French movies and decided to replicate Igbo films.

Then, there was nothing like Nollywood. A few television series like Zeburudaya, Ichoku, Ifesinachi were showing on NTA and were popular in the 70s. Things Fall Apart would later showed up in 1980s where Pete Edochie acted as Okonkwọ.

Mike Orihedịmma gathered a lot of people. He was looking for sponsors but couldn't get any. He started a program called "Ka Ụwa Si Aga"

He started from radio. But said he want his face to be known. NTA was promising him. ABS started then, they were promising him. None gave him platform. Come today and come tomorrow. He started producing films in cassette.

From "Ka Ụwa Si Aga", he started "Okpuru Anyanwụ."

Ngọzi Ezeọnụ was into makeup then. Mike Orihedịmma brought her into her first ever film. Mr. Ibu started through Mike Orihedịmma.

Ụwaezuoke was taken to Mike Orihedịmma by a man he often changed his clothes in his shop who saw him as a talented man.

Mike Orihedịmma made many actors and actresses. He produced Nwaude Nwakpụda.

The Igbo films we know today started through him.

The first film he produced is called "Ọtaakị."

Maazị Mpịrịmpị was popular TV series in the 80s as well.

His name was very popular in the 70s and 80s as well as 90s.

Mike Orihedịmma became a popular name.

He hailed from Ihitenansa, Imo State.

He is late now.

He made English films as well.

Great information Sir! Thank you so much for taking the time to explain this history of filmmaking to those who always doubt if modern Nollywood originated in Onitsha or not.

It is obvious that the BIGGEST weakness of Ndigbo is the ability to IMPROVE anything from its initial basic model/version. Like the Chinese, we are expert copiers but unlike the Chinese that continuously improve their initial model/version, we pay little attention to innovation and improvements. Thus, once something is successful, we copy it exactly without trying to improve our version of it to match the current or future trends of the same thing. If we had improved the Mike Orihedimma model instead of trying to repeat it exactly for many decades after the 1970s until it became obsolete, we would have been somewhere now. Those types of Mike Orihedimma Igbo traditional films would be on Netflix now competing with other international standard films.

The reason I LOVE Flavour and Phyno is that they understood that playing Hi-Life did not mean performing it exactly like Osadebe, Oliver De Coque, or Morrocco did in the 1970s. They understood that they had to work hard to adapt the beats and evolve Hi-Life to the current trends of the 2000s so that it would remain relevant and not an archaic beat of the 1970s.

That is what we must imbibe as Ndigbo today. We should strive to IMPROVE on what we had and not blindly copy everything without making any effort whatsoever to improve anything. Then we would wonder why people find it tasteless or inferior to currently trendy technology and modern ways of doing the same thing.

That is also exactly why crude toys and fabrications do not impress me. Since we need to jettison and discard the cultural idea of "awalawa". Which literally translates as producing an inferior quality of something instead of aiming to improve on what is already available. We must strive to improve anything that we wish to copy instead of aiming to make a substandard version of the original thing. The same mental mindset of continuous improvement should be applied to our culture, our music, our industrial products, and the way our schools, markets, hospitals, and cities are built. That is the way to evolve as a modern society when we strive to always make things better, and not always blindly copy to produce a substandard version of anything we do. That is the way we can continue to grow from strength to strength as Ndigbo.

The idea espoused in this post is the reason I hailed Obiano for striving to build a modern airport with a longer runway and modern facilities than what we already had in Owerri or Enugu.

It is also the same reason I am currently hailing Dave Umahi for upping the standard in his new airport facility, modern Abakaliki mall design, modern university structures at the King David University of Medicine, and using flyovers instead of a roundabout to solve serious traffic gridlock points in his state.

We should force our leaders and people to IMPROVE on what is already obtainable than sticking to the mindset of "awalawa" and creating substandard quality of what we had already achieved several decades ago. That is the only way to grow from strength to strength as a people.

My sentiments down to a T!

In the past one or two years in the south-east, we’ve seen new big-ticket projects (capable of serving as economic drivers/multipliers and a catalyst to uplift other sectors of the economy and society) being launched only in Anambra, Ebonyi and Abia to a lesser extent (GEOMETRIC power plant)!

Meanwhile, other states or regions are using the political/economic advantages they’ve acquired for themselves over the past decades of operating a unitary national gov’t to attract multi-billion dollar industries and initiatives to their own states/regions, while some of their states (like Lagos, Rivers, Kano and Kaduna) can, to a large extent, run on their own steam courtesy of these political/economic advantages garnered over the past decades!

Some may not realise it, but the subtext to your submission points to the need for every region to have the capacity to have their own ‘Lagos’….their own centre for cultural, social and economic interaction with the global community, so each region can sell themselves to the outside world to the best of their ability and develop at their own pace using their own human and natural resources which wouldn’t be appropriated by others or lost in the ‘unified’ confusion that is ‘one Nigeria’! Basically, i’m talking of the need for a TRUE Nigerian federation….not one only in name, while reality on the ground is the opposite!

The damage for our entertainers to first have to go to Lagos in order to make it globally cannot be quantified! We may not like to hear this, but some have appropriated Lagos for themselves and see our presence there as an ‘irritant’! They can easily use their control of the machinery of state governance to frustrate us in many ways, and this has actually been happening….mostly codedly!

Part of the problem is also self-inflicted, as we’re a bit docile in promoting and hyping our own! In the late 50s and 60s, some of the best Nigerian entertainers came from the East…mainly of Igbo and Ijaw extraction! This was a period when there was true federalism and each region didn’t have to first go to Lagos in order to be a success. Though Lagos, even then, was still the cultural and entertainment capital of Nigeria, this prominent position was achieved organically as then ALL Nigerians saw Lagos as theirs without one group or ethnicity claiming it and its governance!

The dangers and unfairness in operating a unitary system of national governance in such a pluralistic and diverse country as Nigeria can also be seen in how the Anambra airport has seen NO federal push to see it grow beyond what the state gov’t has done! There’s zero effort from Abuja in seeing it can handle one or two international destinations, even though it’s one of the most functional and best equipped airports in the country! Can you imagine Hadi Sirika hasn’t visited the airport even for once!

Also, we see the negative impact of operating a unitary system of national governance in how they’ve been playing mind-games with that Onitsha river port…almost mirroring the way they used 2nd Niger bridge for political football! Leaving aside the fact that it’s possible to upgrade Onitsha river port to a sea port (yes, a bit difficult and capital intensive, but still possible), the little river port operations that are possible and easily achievable are yet to commence! All we’ve seen thus far are teasing and empty platitudes and promises of commencement of operations! Remember we’re not just talking of any other town or city here! We’re talking of Onitsha…..a city that held so much promise in the 50s and 60s, and was once one of the centres of gravitational pull for commerce in West and Central Africa!

@ bolded, 100%!!
Many Igbos think they cannot succeed in anything unless they are in Lagos! I'm glad that INNOSON showed them that you can survive even in Nnewi if you know your business very well.

I love that you called out "Lagos" in your submission. The urge for Igbos to always take everything they invent to other regions A.K.A "Lagos" where they often end up losing it or are relegated to second fiddle due to the Nigerian factor is sad.

I'm glad that some of them who left Onitsha's fledgling film industry for Lagos in the early 2000s but were finally edged out of the Lagos film industry due to the "Nigerian factor" were able to organize themselves and return back to Asaba. Where they kept the light of Nollywood on in that city. The multiplier effect now is the addition of the new Asaba film village and leisure park.

Please, stop disturbing us with ipob here, thank you

He is ashamed of his state so he wants us to buy into his IPob terrorisms.

Everyday he will camp here preaching about terrorisms to the free people of anambra state.

I wonder if his colleagues told him that Biafra lives here.

Sometimes that independent spirit we have can be a hindrance to achieving goals as a collective! Though i see where you’re coming from on the issue of our self-centred Igbo politicians, but you should know by now they’re on their own and majority of Igbo elite and masses are rooting for Peter Obi! In the past, i’ve always complained about our politicians and how they don’t seem to be fighting our corner the way you see politicians of the other two major ethnicities do for theirs!

The bolded is funny but true! You hardly hear the word Ichafu anymore, a word that’s now being replaced with gele and only used by our mothers and aunts!

I’ve seen recent clips of Kinshasa and was really impressed! However, Congo is largely a one city country so they can afford to concentrate most of their developmental efforts on their capital city! In Nigeria, we have many cities that could give Kinshasa a run for its money with the right kind of political arrangement and voting in the right type of leaders. Cities like Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Owerri, Aba, Enugu, Onitsha, Awka, Uyo, Calabar, Kano and Kaduna could come close to Kinshasa and even surpass it in some cases…..only with the right attitude to governance and nationhood!

Igbos miscalculate and overhype Lagos sometimes.

I did the maths and i found out that investing in the east will give you access to bigger market than Lagos.

Here is how.

South South and South East has a population of 26 and 22 Milllion people respectively. If you combine them together that's 48 million people.

South West has a total population of 32.5 million people.

Now if you observe the attached map there are two circles I drew there. The yellow and the blue circle.

The yellow circle consist of what I call the economic catchment areas of Eastern Region. This catchment areas includes SS/SE and some parts of Cameroun and Equatorial Guinea.

As I mentioned, minus Cameroun and Equatorial Guinea, the total population of SS/SE alone is a market catchment area that's more populated than SW.

What this means is that citing an industry in SS/SE will give you access to more market than the market available in SW. Some of our Igbo brothers are always deceived that Lagos has the population hence the need for them to set up industry in Lagos/Ibadan axis. That's a big lie. Only Abia, Owerri and PH will give you whatever market you need to sell your product. And also, it is a known fact that most of these stuffs produced in Lagos/Ibadan axis finds their way into SS/SE. Example snacks and biscuits.

Now if these things still comes to SS/SE and gets consumed what is the sense in now going as far as Lagos to set up this factories when in actual sense if u set it in SS/SE you get access to more ready market and population. Now if I go further to add Equitorial Guinea and Cameroun you know what this means.

Now let's talk about the blue circle.
As you might have observed, Abuja is closer to SE/SS than Lagos/SW. Now if this is the case why do our people still think they should cite their bizness in SW/Lagos/Ibadan when they can cite it in SS/SE and get to the market in Easter NC, NE and Abuja faster?

I have contemplated on this and I honestly don't see the sense of setting up industries in this areas when at the end of the day your goods gets consumed more outside the region you set up factory.

Innoson is a good example that proves that setting up in SE/SS is more viable than SW. From Nnewi Innoson can easily sell to Abuja, NC, Cameroun, Equatorial Guinea, etc.

Let me reemphasize. SE/SS has more population and ready consumers than SW. SE/SS can easily distibute to Abuja, Eastern NC and NE easily cause of proximity than shipping from Lagos to these areas.

It is important Igbo industrialists lock down the economic zones and market of NE, Eastern NC, SS, Equatorial Guinea and Cameroun.

If we can successfully lock down this market, we can then scale up and compete to get other regions like NW, Western NC and even SW, then global markets.

Let's start with the market in this areas first (NE, Eastern NC, SS/SE, Equatorial Guinea and Cameroun).

It is important we build factories within SE/SS in order to stay close to these market and capture them. Proximally speaking, it makes more sense to build industries in SE/SS than building in Lagos/Ibadan. Most of the cities and states with higher Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) exist within our market region. LET'S BUILD INDUSTRIES CLOSE TO IT AND LOCK IT.

I know people will give me reasons like Seaport and the rest not functional in SS/sE that's why people set up there. Well i disagree.

We can still set up here and push thru our leaders that the available ports be functional, or even invest towards building and owning one. We need leaders in the SE to be more proactive in the next 4 years. it should not be about just building road and flyovers now. it is now an existential matter. They must push and float investment companies that will go round and see stuffs that hinders our productivity and see ways to invest in ensuring that stumbling block is removed. Akwa Ibom state is building a seaport, this investment front funded by all SE states can go and invest in it and secure the goodwill of the state and secure right of access instead of complaining and waiting for FG to wake up. FG is slow, waiting for them will make us waste precious time.

Thank God seaports are now in the legislative list. SE governors can work with states like Akwa Ibom (preferable to avoid Ijaw wahala) to get concession to build ports at their coastal line. This port must not even be funded from the state covers of SE. Funds can be sourced from investors while the front runners will be the investment company set up by SE Gov Forum. I know this is what SEREDEC was design to function as. I hope we get to the point where we start having the conversation. SW is doing it already, buying and owning OML thru their investment front (Odua investment group).

It is important we realize that this time around, the next four years should not be about roads and flyovers. State governors can not develop SE within the shortest possible time. They must work with private investors which we have in abundance, but the brick wall has been trust and lack of passion from government.

Only one gov in SE has started going this route, it may sound surprising but it's Abia. As it stands, Abia State via EEC has now taken over Enugu - PH expressway and Onitsha - Aba - Owerri expressway. They will toll it and make money from it in the coming years.

This is what I pray to start seeing in SE.

NwekereNdoki:

Dirty aba p1g, you always trying to find a way to promote your backward useless worthless shithole abia state.
. Abia is the worst and most backward state in Nigeria, so stop deceiving yourself. There's nothing that's working in abia state. Almost all the roads in abia state are dilapidated, but you want us to believe that such useless good for nothing state was handed over a major highway to repair. The same EEC has been on billboards for over a decade and nothing to show, while Awka Millennium city that started yesterday is already on site. Stop bringing your inferiority complex here. The fact that you are from Abia is enough to make you lie low because your state is cursed, no sane person speaks about abia state in public.

Not bad, but not my taste. The mansion is starting to look like a Church

I think the concept of concrete alone as "beauty" still fascinates our people. How can one pour so much concrete all over the place to fill up every available space, without making the edifice look like a beautiful home with lots of flowers and trees?

I know I'm sounding like Igboson 1 now grin grin grin
He loves a well-landscaped environment with beautiful flowers to give it a great ambiance and beauty.

Bros Oremi, you couldn’t be more correct on the bolded! Was starting to think i was a lone ‘pesky’ voice crying out in the wilderness!

Took a stroll down Chigwell Rd the other day….a highbrow area with impressive mansions no different to what we build in our villas and GRAs back home! But i tell you, the wooded environment, swept roads and well tended lawns (in private properties as well as along the public road) made all the difference!

Welcome to the greenery club!🙂

Everyday he will camp here preaching about terrorisms to the free people of anambra state.

I wonder if his colleagues told him that Biafra lives here.

Nobody is 100% useless! If you are a student of history and strategy.....you will know this fact! Even prisoners and felons have their nuisance value! Russia after 1 calendar year of relentless bloodletting in Ukraine has released felons and criminals in her prisons to fight with Wagner mercenary army in a freedom for 6 months at the front deal!

The ESN you are disparaging today ......may yet be useful to us! Bros my eyes dey ground! FEBRUARY 25th is going to be pivotal and I smell an Abiola 1993 election debacle............we are not out of the woods yet..............by any stretch of imagination! GOVERNOR SOLUDO RECEIVED BY OVERWHELMING CROWD AT OKIJA , FLAGS-OFF 8.5KM ROAD CONSTRUCTION

Anambra State Governor, Prof Charles Chukwuma Soludo, CFR, today, Thursday 16th February 2023, was in Okija town, Ihiala LGA.

The governor, who flagged off some major road construction projects which included:4.26km Saminovo-Umuofor-Nkwor-Umuhu-Ubahu-Okija Road (Lot 1), handled by Rogel Nigeria Ltd and another 4.26km Saminovo-Umuofor-NkworBright Street-Umuhu-Ubahiezike Road (Lot2) handled by Hammakopp Consortium Ltd, appealed to Ndi Okija to continue to support, unconditionally, APGA Candidates throughout in the forthcoming election. Assuring the crowd that the roads will completed at the agreed upon time. There was a spontaneous jubilation from the crowd who clap the governor ceaselessly.

Addressing the crowd as well, the Hon. Chido Obidiegwu , who is ABS MD, called on Ndi Okija and Ihiala to reciprocate the good work which the governor is doing all over Anambra as he is eager to serve the people of the state and bring dividends of democracy to them.

In his remarks, APGA Candidate for Anambra South Senatorial District, Rt Hon. Chris Emeka Azubogu, promised Ndi Okija and Ihiala that he will do more if given the mandate by the people to serve them at the Red Chambers of the National Assembly. He admonished the people to be focused and not be swayed by pseudo promises from the opposition politicians.

The Deputy Speaker Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Pascal Agbodike, charged Ndi Ihiala to always respect the gentleman agreement of zoning arrangement that has hitherto been accepted and working harmoniously in the area for the purposes of equity, justice and fairness. Stressing that it is when such honourable arrangement is respected that peace and harmony can reign supreme in the area.

Besides the aforementioned dignitaries, there were other notable VIPs who were on the ground to witness the event and they included:Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-udeh , Nze Nze Akachukwu Sullivan Nwankpo , Barr Jude Ngobili, Deputy Chief of Staff and Chief of Protocol, Chinedu Glamour Nwoye, and the others.
