Aboguede: Oga tell me the compulsory state you must win in the USA, 😁😁😂😁😂, The USA uses the electoral college.. The law says to win an election in Nigeria you have to have 25% of 2/3 in the 36 states and the fct, the fct was just included given it a statehood, Las las na wail you go wail. Why do we say the 36 states and the fct ![]() 3 Likes 1 Share |

obedience4:because Abuja has no elected governor. The president is the elected governor of the FCT. He only appoints a minister to carry out those duties. If Abuja is regarded as a state it also has area councils it's only fair any president should score even the majority of votes cast in the FCT |

FatherOfJesus: Nope, but you have to get 25% in 24 states at the least. The constitution sees abuja as one of the states too in this contest. So it is more like 25% in 24 out of 37 states |
Re: 25% In FCT Not A Requirement To Emerge President – Falana by yusfatedeeprof(m): 12:26pm On Feb 28, 2023 |
AroleOduduwa2:Stop being ignorant. The law is clear as daylight. The law says that the states you can get your 25% from is inclusive of Abuja not that you have to get 25% from Abuja, lol. For example, you were only able to meet 25% in 23 states out of 36 states, if you get 25% in Abuja you are clear. But if you already have your 25% in 24 states of the federation, Abuja is as good as useless. The law is clear and devoid of ambiguity, no dey confuse yourself |
Re: 25% In FCT Not A Requirement To Emerge President – Falana by Zandena(f): 12:26pm On Feb 28, 2023 |
Simply put in layman's perspective, instead of having 25% in atleast 2/3 of the states which is roughly 24 states and the FCT, if a candidate has 25% in 25 states without FCT he has fulfilled the requirements of the law to be declared president-elect. So be guided. 3 Likes |

It is well...I'm from the north but I'm happy that I queued under the sun to get my pvc and I'm also happy that I voted for his excellency, peter obi. To me and other sensible Nigerians that desire a breath of fresh air, he is and will be our president. As for those that allowed tribalism to becloud their sense of reasoning, be rest assured that the blood of all the innocent people that this evil (apc) party wasted in one way or the other is on your head. It will speak against everyone of you. To my good people from the west, east, south, north... please don't take laws into your hands. You have done what you should do as good citizens. 1 Like |

cursedAbiola: Think about it from this angle. Assume a very well loved candidate from FCT decided to run for president. Even if he woefully lost the total election, he will most likely win the FCT with others not getting 25% just as OBI won Enugu. Do you think INEC will deny the overall winner just because of FCT 4 Likes |

Egoat: The bolded is a wrong statement even in applied situation. The summation of 2/3 of 37 is 24.67 which is greater than 24 but less than 25. Since the states are not fractioned but whole, therefore 24.67 is appropriately roundup to 25. |

AroleOduduwa2: There is an ambiguity but it couldn't have been the intendment of the drafters of the constitution that there must be a 25% win for any winner of the election. On this contentious issue, contentious because of its potential for misinterpretation, the learned Silk - Olisa Agbako - still wrote to the INEC Chairman for his interpretation. But according to the constitution, the FCT is to be treated as a state even where states are mentioned together. |

FarahAideed:It is going to be interesting in the legal battle looming... The phraseology of that requirement is very unambiguous. 24 states and Abuja should mean that winning 25 percent in Abuja is a compulsory requirement... If the converse is true, then the question is why was Abuja added in the provision? It is complicated... 2 Likes |
