The Supreme Court on Friday nullified the cashless and Naira re-design policy of President Muhammadu Buhari-led government.
The apex court in its ruling declared the naira redesign policy was an affront to the 1999 Constitution of the country.

Justice Emmanuel Akomaye Agim while reading the lead judgment of the Court, said President Buhari breached the Constitution of the Federation in the ways and manners he issued directives for the re-designing of the Naira by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

The apex court in its judgement also noted that the President acted Ultra vires by his obvious failure to consult with the National Council of States, Federal Executive Council (FEC) and the National Economic Council (NEC) before directing the CBN to unlawfully introduce new Naira notes.

The court also directed CBN to keep the old N200, N500, and N1,000 notes in circulation till December 31, 2023.

The Supreme Court delivered this ruling following the suit filed against the Federal Government by some state governments.

Meanwhile, CBN is now waiting for legal advice as the Supreme Court ruling affects the entire Naira redesign policy.

A top official who spoke with Vanguard on the development said the CBN would make its position on the matter known but that it was awaiting legal advice, ostensibly, from the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation

I hope the "atanni" general will use his head in giving you advise this time. To obey or disobey the supreme court order should not even be a topic for consultation undecided

Last week Saturday for the presidential elections, we came to a gun fight with bare hands and we were badly wounded by our criminal adversaries.

Next week Saturday for the Gubernatorial elections, we are coming a whole lot more prepared.

All results must be uploaded and transmitted in real time at the polling units. If INEC does anyhow, those at the polling units would see anyhow.

We are determined to defend our votes including from INEC themselves.

Labor Party from top to bottom.

This is the height of a sitting government not obeying the rule of law.

It's total disrespect if CBN still needs legal advice after the Supreme Court judgement.

This Emefiele go hear am once Tinubu is sworn in.

Make una do release our money. Buhari don prove say nothing good will ever come out from him. That he's a true definition of failure, suffering, nonchalance, wickedness, daft, incompetent. It happened in 1974 and now it's repeating again.

Do not be deceived.

At first we all thought the CBN and cashless policy was to punish Tinibu but it was a well orchestrated plan by APC. Do you really think the policy affected Tinubu in any way?

Rather he used it to campaign and was busy saying it is bad while most of us were here laughing at him thinking he was having sleepless night over it. While the other candidates came out to support the policy.

Now that masses are angry over the result of the election, they want to push naira back, which will in one way or the other pacify a lot of the citizens who are not happy with the election result.

Soon you will se3 things going smoothly in the country and we may even start praising these APC guys asif they aren't the same people that Brought untold hardship on us.

They fully know how to play with our emotions

The CBN should stop trying to be a smart and reintroduce the use of the old notes as legal tender.

I have said the CBN will not obey the Supreme court ruling. This will only be done after the elections.

The policy is to weaken the masses and they've achieved their ambition

It's quite unfortunate that politician don't care about the masses, many people have lost their lives due to this bad policy

Since their aim have been achieved, let them relieve the masses

The e-banking is not working because there's massive pressure on e-banking and most of our bank can't handle the surge in electronic banking transactions

Let the murderous policy stop already and let there be naira in circulation
