Ask GloriousGbola, there was an app he mentioned he uses to track Data usage. I'm 60% sure the update is the culprit.

Glasswire is the app

you can track your data usage on it.

windows gets updates every week - usually on tuesday. if you use windoes 10 pro, you can defer small

same applies to ms office. it also gets updates every other week

if your system hasa 'free download period'

you can set your internet connection to metered - this will ensure updates only run WHEN YOU PICK THEM, rather than automatically

i will not advise that you disable updates, because at some point, you will find strange behavior in your system and it will be ties to that.

also if you have games on your pc - [steam/epic/ms store , unless you disable automatic updates, they will automatically update.

note that there is also a possibility someone is sharing your wifi with you - one of my biggest sources of aggravation is carefully managing data, then the kids come in and in 30 minutes 5gb has gone.

Whenever you connect your Hotspot, on the connection tab, click on the network properties, scroll down you'll see "Metered Connection" toggle it on.

The laptop I use currently is HP 8gb Ram, Core i5 and 1Tb HDD. Maybe you could get something similar or higher.
