TheGoodJoe: The bolded should put the discussion to bed.. the players are good, but they didn't have the exposure.... So why should we continue toeing that path when it isn't producing results? There are numerous football academies across the country that these street players can be recruited into for long term football development rather than the short term approach that the national youth team provides .. 1 Like |

Danielnino00: I am talking of after the U20. A successful U20 would have beamed the spotlight on them and some would have made it like the u17. No one is against the academy recruits. We said open trials and let them compete against the academy recruits. Those players better than the academy recruits should play. It is about getting the best. Not just selecting academy recruits. Open trials. Professional players, academy recruits, and street players, etc. Select the best from them. If the academy player is not better, why should he go ahead of a street boy that is better than him? Finito. 1 Like |

Danielnino00:You're very right sha, EPL teams have a lot of fans like that. But the guy has his sight firmly set on the PL though I'm 100% sure if the likes of Bayern and Madrid come knocking, he won't say no. If he chooses Man United, he's coming to take the no.9 shirt and be the starting striker. And if he puts in the extra work like he's been doing at Napoli, ETH will never bench him no matter what fans say. Take Weghorst for example. 1 Like 1 Share |

TheGoodJoe: A street boy cannot be better than an academy player. An academy player is a professional footballer while a street boy is complete amateur footballer. It's the same reason you won't visit a street doctor over a university graduate doctor with 10 years experience. Someone who joins an academy at 10 years old will have at least 8 years experience of professional football before he/she is 20 years old compared to a street footballer who has no professional experience. Academy players play on grass from a young age while street footballers play on concrete, sand, bumpy grass, wood e.t.c. so most street players especially in Africa have poor ball control and movement. |

Amedino99: No be now I’m talking about na my guy. Listen why i called for street kids (local league players) Before a major tournament You would have done your trials like 2 years before, round your 26man up since they have no academy (club side ) obligations you’ll drill them play them against top sides both overage Npfl sides and all. Then 2 years later when it’s time for the tourney tell me how they’ll disappoint even if they don’t win it |

codemaniacs: You must be talking about 1966 street football lol Who plays ball on roads nowadays when they’re good pitches all over the place. I’ll stand by my statement as long as you’re still an academy player oga you’re not light years above a street player. You need to go out more Saying street boys play on road and with empty legs 😂 I got kids in my neighborhood that would walk into this u20 team without a sweat . Like it’s literally a walk in the park |

codemaniacs: Let me repeat it again, Mikel Obi was discovered by Babawo Mohammed, taken to Kashimawo Laloko, who was the person that opened Pepsi Football Academy. As soon as Laloko watched Mikel Obi play, he said he knew he had found the best player in the country. That was a street footballer, and few years from there stood out training for Manchester United. It totally defeats your point. 1 Like |

codemaniacs:What academy offers is tactics especially, a lot of technical play can be developed on the street. Listen to Naby Keita. “I was never exposed to the professional side of the game,” Keita explains. “I didn’t grow up in an academy, everything I knew was from the street. I would get the ball, I would run with it, show some skill to beat a player and score. “During these trials, coaches were asking me to do things I’d never heard of! They were using football terms that I couldn’t understand and giving instructions that I had no clue about. I didn’t know about tactics and when I was rejected that is what I was told.” It was only six years ago when Keita received that crushing feedback, and yet now, you would struggle to find a midfielder as astute and effective as him both offensively and defensively. Schalke director Christian Heidel aptly exclaimed that Leipzig possess a “12th player” because "Naby is like two, this boy is incomprehensible”. https://www.goal.com/story/naby-keita-goal-50-exclusive/index.html Six years from a street footballer, he became one of the best midfielders in Europe. Better than hundreds of kids in Germany that grew up in some of the best academies in the world. That is what the scouting of street talents can do. If it is us, we will abandon a talent like Naby Keita because he was not 8 years old in academy. |

TheGoodJoe:Emma Olisadebe ex Poland international was a pure street footballer. We played the game together in Ilorin but I want tell you as at then he was better than most NPFL players. He waas number one striker on the lips of coaches during world university games ahead of NPFL highest goal scorer Edith Agoye....imagine a street footballer benched NPFL top scorer and really surprised seeing a street footballer taken Poland to WC and got nominated for World footballer of the year. 2 Likes 1 Share |

Kog45: The street is mostly where football academies get their players,so it's normal.. But Lookman would never have made it to the England u-20 team as a street player... Raw talent is on the street..the academy is where they are supposed to be refined...The national team is where they are supposed to showcase these refined skills.. I believe that should be the order of business... 1 Like 1 Share |

Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by TheGoodJoe(m): 11:29pm On Mar 07, 2023 |
jihday: Because of a bad pitch that hindered their playing style. They played about fifty games and only lost one match because the NFF selected a pitch that was not suitable for the team and an advantage to their opponents. On any good pitch, they would have white washed Sudan. That one game does is not close to the numerous games they won. If it was a league, they would have won it in grand style. |

Odunayaw: We are talking of when building the team and as typicalgamer pointed, only few will make it. Those few will be special. They will get groomed in camp and will flourish. The yardstick for them to breakthrough is to be better than the Professionals and academy stars. Why take a professional player to the U20 if a street player is better than him. |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by TheGoodJoe(m): 11:35pm On Mar 07, 2023 |
charlesemeka85: The problem is you failed to understand the point. Bernardo Silva plays multiple roles for City, including as a forward, creative midfielder and sometimes purely hugging the wings. However, in some games, Guardiola deploys him as a central midfielder. Onyedika's style of play, is similar to the way Bernardo Silva plays the central midfield role. Meaning, he hugs the ball at a high frequency and uses technical skills to break tight areas. So try to understand the point. |

jihday: Everyone knows they lost to Sudan. You can browse and see that. I am talking beyond what we know. That was a waterlogged pitch for a team that played passing football for about 50 games. That was the NFF selecting a pitch that will hinder our style of play. We had better pitches that the team could play on. You can say they lost but the NFF took extra step to make the team lose. Apart from that, they had a wonderful performance before the sabotage. Finito. |
