They tried diagonal and wingers couldn't get the ball or even control the ball.

Local coaches need to focus on short passes and the distance of the players from each other and passing in a triangular manner.

I agree. It has taken too long for our team in recent years to keep the ball and move it up the pitch with precision.

I have called for us to play a more possession based strategy across all levels of the National team, so at least we can pass the ball in a better manner.

I think Benzema might affect the chances of Osimhen in Madrid. If Manchester United comes, he should take it because Erik Ten Hag did a fantastic job with Haller. Osimhen will get to score loads playing on top of Erik Ten Hag's system.

Bro it’s high time we started doing open trials
And let the hundreds of players slug it out

This academy picks has done us no good in recent memory.

Street is where the talent is,
For u-20? That doesn't sound like a good idea.. players at u-20 level are supposed to be professionals already... You can mostly find raw talents on the streets... If it was u-17, it would be better.. .The lack of proper youth football structure in the NPFL is part of why it's difficult to select the right players for the u-20...

I am with typicalgamer on this one. Open trials even for U-20s level.

Hundreds of young footballers aged 19 and below turned up in Abuja on the first day of screening of players for Nigeria’s U-20s conducted by head team of the coach Emmanuel Amuneke.

Owngoalnigeria.com correspondent who was at the training session this morning reports that the players were divided into eight different set of 11 players and who played among themselves before some were dropped.

The team will hold their second training session this evening with more players expected to be tested as part of the process of picking the best legs for Nigeria’s Africa Youth Championship qualifiers against Burundi in March.

Selected players from the exercise which is expected to last for three days will compete with 30 other players already listed by the coach for camping starting this Saturday.

Among the 30 invited players, 12 were selected from the all conquering Nigeria U-17 team of 2015 with four members of the same team namely Kelechi Nwakali, Samuel Chukwueze, Victor Osimhen and Lukman Zakari set to join the team later in camp from their various base abroad.

Two problem with this plan is that:
1) You will end up selecting players who may not be in the right age bracket since theres no MRI for u-20 to ascertain their age range. Also, some academy or professional club players might disguise as street players just fot the trail, and we would end up selecting the same players we tried to avoid..

2) It all sounds good, until we get to the world cup and meet teams filled with u-20 players that have already started playing first team football...In football, talent is one thing, tactics and technicality are another thing entirely...

I still believe that the best way out is to develop youth football in the NPFL... The NPFL u-15 development programme is a good initiative that's yielding fruits already.. they should take it further up and introduce more youth teams... It would also help NPFL teams recruit players better

Victor eletu ebenezee akinsanmiro another giy in real valladolid then thompson ishaka are some players in europe we can put into that team.
Where a player is is a question of time. A non academy player will be in europe in a year and even vice versa. We should get our best players.
Our grassroots football is tied to foreign leagues and sometimes our best teenagers are allready abroad before we notice. Victor eletu has been in ac milan since he was 15. Its tge way of modern football.
I forgot we have a striker in sao paoulo youth team.
Sorry our besy players go abroad at a very young age.
That boy in surulere that dribbles like okocha will be abroad before he is 20. We have to know this.
Our grassroots football is already working but sime of them move abroad before we are aware of it

Doing open trials for u20 players is madness..

unless the open trials is strictly for players from academies or an u20 football league.

You can't compare the football intelligence of an U20 player who joined an academy when he was 8 years old and has been playing different leagues and tournaments since he was 8 years old to a street footballer who only plays football occasionally.

That's one of the reasons Nigeria doesn't have players who are 18 or 19 already playing in Europe or UCL because the club that signs them sends them to junior teams.

Players like onyeka and onyedika and the other guy a Danish club recently signed have never played u20 football for the flying eagles and they got signed by European clubs because the academy they were in is affiliated with the European club and because they were already in an academy.

Only about 5 of these u20 players will get picked and that’s a sad fact you don’t want to admit to

Streets beats academy in terms of raw talent.

You know all these because Man UTD lost one after how many matches? ETH met a team that almost bottled 6th position last season and has been trophyless for 6 years, look at what he achieved in half a season. Liverpool lost 7-2 to villa, nothing happened o😂. You even mentioned Ole that didn't win a spoon in 3 years, chai 😂

Well, no need arguing about this sha, we'll see how it goes.

I don't know why we hardly see players from international leagues and academies in the age grade teams. Adding these kind of players will really improve the way play.

the u20 is not the place to be boasting about raw talent. They are going to be playing against guys who are already in first teams of European clubs in the world cup. Pit the raw talents against these guys and see how they perform. It's not rocket science the reason we have not been able to win the u20 world cup. Raw talents and overage players can only get us the u17. Priotise youth players that are already in clubs and the academy and see how our u20 story changes.

If the u-15 development tournament could work, I believe starting an u-18 and u-21 own won't be so difficult either... If anything, some of these guys from the u-15 who can't get first team opportunity at their parent club after being overaged for the u-15 can easily be integrated to the new system... It all requires the commitment of the NFF and the clubs...
