Almost every two months Boat mishap dey happen between Ebute Ikorodu to Lagos Island . The government needs to do more about safety first . If possible help those Private boat operators get safer boats by providing access to capital for them and also ensure they follow regulatory guidelines to ensure safety

Many of those lifejackets provided by those private boat operators are actually torn and useless. I feared for my safety the last time I took a boat to Ajah from Ikorodu that I had to tell the operators I'd wait for another lifejacket from some of those arriving instead of wearing nonsense

What most people who ply that route regularly do is get their own personal life jacket they keep in their backpack anytime they leave home. That way they are sure of being safe in the event of boat mishap .

However , what I believe is mostly responsible for he boat mishaps are the sorry state of the boats . I learnt it’s the big boat owned by Lagos state government that is safest ; the other ones owned by private operators are smaller and older . Someone once share his experience with me , he said the boat engine fell into the middle of the lagoon . The boat operator didn’t even inform anybody , they just saw him dive into the water and when he turned up again he was carrying the boat engine in his hands after retrieving it . Can u just imagine that kind shock ? 🤣

Lagos na crazy place to live in Aswear . The person wey share his experience with me has : different cars at home o, but cos of the traffic he had to be using the boats. Na after one month he share the incident with his wife , that one wan craze say na so breadwinner for go 😩

Guess what ? The incident happened on Friday and by Monday he was already hopping on the boat again cos of Lagos traffic .

The trick is to always leave work early if you can.

When i was working at Maryland, i always make sure i leave before 4 and most times i get home at Ikorodu before 6.
