Many people who aren't Igbo find it difficult to understand how Igbos succeed in virtually all business ventures they venture into and even grow so big over time to challenge biggest players in that industry before they started their own business.


I am here today to share some open secrets why Igbos seem to succeed in every business and dominate trade in most communities inside and outside Nigeria that they do business.





Before I forge ahead, I would love to tell you to forget whatever unfounded rumours you have heard or believed before now that it is the reason Igbos dominate trade and other businesses in most communities they travel to.



It has nothing to do with African magic popularly known as juju or charms, neither does it have anything to do with selling fake products like many wrongly believe. And it also has nothing to do with pushing hard drugs even though a lot of unscrupulous Igbo boys who lack information and good reasoning ability allow themselves to be hoodwinked into believing that the only way they can make it in life is by trafficking hard drugs in some countries, this is really a damaging representation of the entrepreneurial Igbo race and we are working very hard to correct this anomaly as I and some notable Igbos continue with our grassroot study of the situation to enable us find a lasting solution by reaching out to Igbo youths in the most effective ways to let them know the dangers of drug trafficking and other social vices.



Give us time, we are definitely going to tackle this, and thank God Igbos are gradually having a footprint in the media sector to be able to tell our own stories that was hitherto wrongly told or fabricated by enemies of Igbos who used media propaganda as tools to demarket Igbos for political gains.

THE DARING SPIRIT OF THE IGBO MAN

An average or typical Igbo man is daring in nature and most times he believes there is nothing impossible for him to achieve. This daring or fearless spirit of the Igbo man is one of the many reasons none Igbos dislike the Igbo man. They mistake this trait for arrogance. To some extent, it could mean arrogance but if you remove fallacy of hasty generalization, and study the Igbo man closely, you will realize that the trait has nothing to do with arrogance but rather an innate desperate desire to succeed in life.



You maybe wondering how this daring spirit correlate to the topic of why Igbos succeed in business and trade? Okay read on.


During my opening post, I made mention of some unscrupulous Igbos engaging in drug trafficking, even in very dangerous countries where such crime attracts immediate death penalty? Now let me tell you something you don't know about the Igbo man. A typical Igbo man is fearless, this doesn't mean that all Igbos are fearless, but a majority of Igbos have this daring, fearless spirit to do the unthinkable just to survive and avoid poverty.



It is this spirit that pushes Igbos to migrate to all parts of the world, including to war torn countries. Many wouldn't believe that some Igbos, I had a kinsman who was amongst some laborers that worked on the UN fencing in Gaza strip some years back.


I know another kinsman who was living in a very comfortable, developed country in the 90s and when Liberian war broke out, he heard that there was commodity scarcity in most parts of Liberia including Monrovia due to the outbreak of the civil war and he started reaching out to some of our kinsmen that lived in Liberia on how to start a food and other commodity supply business in some war torn communities in Liberia. He had to mobilize capital and organized items from London, Nigeria, Cotonou, etc and moved them down to Monrovia where he paid government soldiers in US Dollars to guard and escort him to different communities and even warfronts just to sell at almost quadruple the normal price cos people were ready to pay any price and most times in US Dollars to lay hands on some essential life commodities to sustain their families.



He got injured twice and even escaped death at a place in Monrovia where he was busy selling with his soldier guards and Rebel forces struck the area with dozens of rocket missiles.

This daring spirit of the Igbo man pushes the Igbo man to explore the world and reach where most others refuse to go, and in the process he discovers business opportunities that others haven't even heard of and then he starts to export and import these ideas into Nigeria and other countries, which gives him an edge over others.




For instance, an average Yoruba man hates traveling to underdeveloped or any country or region he believes is poor. Yorubas mostly migrate to fertile communities with massive development where they can enrol in formal education, acquire degrees and certificates and use it to secure a formal job that pays him steady monthly salary.



This is why you see many Yorubas in UK, US, etc. You hardly see Yorubas in poor countries in Africa, Asia, South America, etc because they don't have the patience to start small business or trade from scratch by supporting the poor local communities with trade till they grow after several years.



Yorubas prefer countries with already established and working environment where they can easily succeed through white collar job or easy business startup.



It is only recently that you will see Yorubas migrating to poor and underdeveloped countries, maybe as opportunities are dropping all over the world, thereby making migration to developed countries more competitive and difficult, maybe this could be the reason Yorubas of today started exploring poor undeveloped countries unlike in the past.

What Igbo does in terms of killing people is horrible in your land. UGM kill yourself like fowl every now and then. You also involve in rituals too.

Take a look at China and other Asian countries, it is mostly Igbos that opened those business channels for Nigerians and most African nations because Igbos have been living there for decades and exploring the opportunities in these undeveloped countries that others refused to migrate to.



Igbos opened up China importation and made it very easy for even students to start importation from China, which helped thousands if not millions of Nigerian youths to escape poverty and graduate unemployment through the popular mini importation business model.



If Igbos weren't living in China for years and mixing with the Chinese locals, it wouldn't have been possible for poor Nigerians and other Africans to know anything like China Mini Importation business that helped millions of Nigerians escape family poverty and perpetual hunger.



This is part of the reasons Igbos succeed in Business and trade more than other Nigerian tribes. They travel far and wide, making them see opportunities in other countries even before other Nigerians and making Igbos the only channel to conduct certain businesses with the people of other nations.

There is no tribe that don't have the art of using herbs to cure ailments because that was what they solely depended on before the advent of orthodox medicine.

Go to the South East, there are even Catholic Priests well known for producing herbal medicine.

I use herbal medicine but would never patronize all those road side sellers as I solely prefer PAX herbal products, produced by the Catholic Benedictine monks in Edo State and under very hygienic processs as I have been opportuned to visit their monastery and production facility, their products sold across the world.

They don’t succeed in business they do crime.

You can’t beat their cheap products because they didn’t buy theirs

"Greed" is what keeps the world economy going including that company you work for otherwise they wouldn't make so much profit and pay you peanut.

"Greed" is what makes US, Europe, China etc mine our raw materials and produce for you to buy at an expensive rate.

"Greed" makes Africans leave their continent and migrate to another man's country in search of "greener (greedy) pastures, "greed" makes them want to reap where they did not sow

"Your own greed" makes you want to buy expensive items at a cheap price, and when you fail you demonise the sellers

Wake up your "greed" or die poor and still complaining in your old age.
