So after tomorrow what happens? They will go back to the SC?

The mistake they did in the first place was not joining Emefiele and CBN in the suit.

If they had done that, the supreme court would not have been able to handle the case. It would have gone through the lower courts before the supreme court.
The supreme court can only be the court of first instance in cases between the State and the Federation or cases between states.

Given how urgent they wanted the judgement, they could not have joined Emefiele and CBN

They didn't do that?
So what was the case

It was FG that they sued.

SPECIAL PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT

Commercial banks have been directed by the Central Bank to dispense old currency notes and to also receive same as deposits from customers.

Tellers at the commercial banks are to generate the codes for deposits and there is no limit to the number of times an individual or company can make deposits.

The Governor of the CBN gave the directive at a Bankers’ Committee meeting held on Sunday, 12th March, 2023.

The Governor, Dr Godwin Emefiele, personally confirmed the above to me during a phone conversation on Sunday night.

Residents of Anambra are therefore advised to freely accept and transact their businesses with the old currency notes (N200; N500; and N1,000) as well as the new notes.

Residents should report any bank that refuses to accept deposits of the old notes.

Anambra State Government will not only report such a bank to the CBN, but will also immediately shut down the defaulting branch.

Signed

C. C. Soludo CFR.
Governor of Anambra State

Me I still believe Buhari is the one behind all this . The moment Buhari gives a nod to Emefiele , they will do a memo to all banks and we will see it flood the internet like the other memo’s they’ve sent in the past .

If she is not feeding them as well, that salary is too poor.

Yes condition can make those maids and servants to accept the offer..but mehn, you have to be devoid of empathy to be paying someone an amount from which he/she can't even feed daily.
Were they forced to take the job? Didn't they accept the job voluntarily out of the need to feed and survive?

Why do people complain about poor wages in a capitalist society/system. I have always said it that the core principle of capitalism is exploitation of labour. Without it, Capitalism cannot thrive. These same people that are paid poor wages also buy cheap products from companies that pay their workers peanuts. They benefit from the system as well.

As long as Nigeria population keeps increasing geometrically yearly, the real exploitation of labour hasn't even begun yet. Wait till around that 2050-2070 when the population decline of Western nations must have become more pronounced and they begin to massively shift the manual/basic part of their production process to Africa. Presently sev, I don't even think we have sweatshops in Nigeria yet, wait till 2050.

Looks like this boy has identity crises.

Chinedu today, gbadebo tomorrow. Now Patrick.

He is crooked as they come. Just go with the flow.
Let's hope he submitted Patrick to inec and not gbadebo. Cos that's automatic disqualification.

I blame APC and PDP for even giving this clown attention enough to think he has a chance.

Sector risk, low liquidity coverage, a stunning lack of macro-economic foresight, and finally poor CEO messaging

Awash with an accelerated increase in deposits during the VC boom of zero interest rate environment, they put too much of their cash into Govt bonds, about 60%, where typically a bank with a strong retail arm should be giving out loans that will yield more than the Fed funds rate. That was the big mistake of not reading the macro environment, and the rest is history

So they had poor short-term liquidity coverage having put their money in long term Govt securities

Their client base being tech are no longer seeing abundant VC money so deposits were slowing and withdrawals increasing and most of their cash was tied in Govt bonds. CEO then sent out wrong messaging that they were selling their Govt securities to cover (which would be at a loss before maturity, given the disparity between treasury yields and fed funds rate), instead of quietly borrowing on interbank market to cover. VCs being a small and connected community reacted to that messaging and decided to all withdraw at the same time, causing a bank run and that's the sum of it.

I was with one of our soccer dads at my son's practice yesterday who let me know the extent of tech industry exposure to the bank. He works for Bondaval, a UK Fintech and he said 80% of their cash was with SVB, and almost all tech companies bank with SVB. When I came home, I started withdrawing money off exchanges, cos in all likelihood an exchange with US exposure may bank with them. That's before Fed stepped in last night. Actually Fed should have stepped in sooner given how crucial they are to the Tech industry. It actually probably only takes a couple of billion from Fed to right their balance sheet in the long term, as against billions being wiped off SVB balance sheet as they start selling long term assets for pennies on the dollar to cover short term liabilities, and further tens of billions wiped off the tech industry from contagion and capital flight.

I read this and decided to use Google and was astonished at the rate which banks are going under due to cryptocurrency crash. people's funds, retirement plans etc going up in flames
