Seeing how there has now been flagrant disregard for supreme court judgments, I somehow wonder if it won't get to a state where one day the supreme court will give a judgment against a sitting governor and he will refuse to vacate the office.

One of the many ugly legacies of the General Buhari/APC-led government, I trust BAT to continue in his footsteps.

If he has certificates all bearing Patrick Rhodes-Vivour, whether plus or minus Gbadebo, he's good to go. That said, I don't think his case would be like David Lyon's, mainly cause of the institutions he finished from. The institutions he finished from are too reputable for this case to fly, most of them are institutions that don't joke with records.

Nigerian institutions are very incompetent and low-trust, and that's why something like that David Lyon's deput's case can even be made an issue.

This is not about what u think o; It's about judicial precedent. Supreme court already ruled on a similar case(Bayelsa's case) and their judgement wasn't premised on whether Nigerian institutions were incompetent and low on trust.

If GRV submitted certificates with contrasting names to INEC like Lyon's deputy, then he's just playing. Why do u think Tinubu didn't fill the details of primary and secondary schools he had earlier filled in his Governorship nomination form in 1998/1999 now in 2022/2023?

The federal government will simply withdraw DSS, Police and other security details of such governor and he will be left exposed for his opponents to feed on his flesh.

I agree with this view. It all depends on what certificates he submitted to INEC along with his nomination form; If he's foolish enough to submit certificates with different names along with his INEC nomination form, then he's a jonzing guy. That means he's not smart and didn't learn from the Bayelsa governorship case.

Exactly. If all his INEC papers have the same name then he is clear, and anybody who is unhappy can take up the Patrick issue with MIT. If, however he submitted both Patrick and Gbadebo to INEC then he is on a slippery slope.

His last name is Rhodes-Vivour

There is a space for first and middle names

If the education certificate he claimed had both Gbadebo and Patrick as first and middle names then he is good

Another way out is if he did not use the MIT Masters cert as part of his INEC credentials

Now going to INEC website he solved this issue in 2 ways. One, He did not put his MIT Masters on the list of certifications, he stopped at Bachelors.

Two, he made Patrick his middle name

So there is no case here regarding the name and certificate

You are assuming the governor will be in a different party.

Just imagine the governor is someone like Yahya Bello or El Rufai

This thread makes me wanna weep because it's absolutely true.

Nigeria fell off hard.
Domestic flight prices were less than 10k. I used to fly my boarding school.

That person who said he was on a salary of 200k and could holiday in the UK was absolutely spot on.
Exchange rate of pounds was below 300. My aunty, my mum's last born was constantly shuttling between both countries, on a mid level bankers salary. Caveat, some were sponsored sha but this still attests to the strength of our economy.

Since then, we have lost soo much purchasing power. APC really failed us hard!! Very hard!

As long as all his education had either Gbadebo or Patrick or both then he is good

The MIT wey people dey shout sef no dey part of his claimed education. Apart from in TV discussions and online arguments, he doesnt have to defend MIT to INEC since he didnt claim it

Even if he did claim MIT, That is also covered since Patrick was part of the names

Why he didn't use MIT as part of his INEC credentials, I don't know and honestly its no ones business beyond Twitter and Nairaland speculations and dragging

Case closed. I don't expect any serious Nigerian politician to still be having name discrepancy issue with certificates , not with all the previous cases.

The report I am seeing from Osun Adeleke tribunal

Fagbemi vs Ikpeazu shows that the lawyers Adeleke are using probably are just playing to the gallery and they know they have no case

They are claiming the 3rd judge signed but didnt write an opinion.

Looks like Adelekes lawyers just came to court to troll

Especially when the law states minimum of WAEC, what you don't declare you wont be charged with. So you only declare what you can prove.

If your WAEC no straight, find a way to external center and rewrite just before you submit your form

When lawyer is asking tribunal to give Adeleke the win because given presidential election result which PDP won in Osun, shows Adeleke would have won

Then whats the need for governorship elections, we can just adopt the party that won the presidential election in the state. E.g Rivers go to Tonye Cole and Oyo given to Teslim
Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Theflint1(m): 3:04pm On Mar 13, 2023
I get what you're saying as regards judicial precedence, but the whole idea behind this name-game is to create doubts on two things - whether the certificate he presented is original, and if original, it was indeed obtained by the candidate. Changing names is not illegal.

From the links Larride posted, there wasn't sufficient details on the case to show how each side made their argument, but in one of the links they said David Lyon's deputy presented forged documents (https://www.thecable.ng/full-text-the-supreme-court-judgment-that-sacked-lyon-as-bayelsa-governor-elect/amp).

That said, I know there's plenty magic happening as regards court issues in Nigeria, so won't be surprised if the Law plays the ass.

People should also draw lessons from osun and the power of incumbent governors

Adeleke was barely in govt for six months, yet pdp cleared the state in the presidential elections

I think a lot of people are misremembering that era.

I served in 08 on 35k salary and 15k alawee, commuting from agege to the Island for a year. It was pretty grim.

I was offered a 100k salary to be retained, and it was so shït that my dad put me on 80k salary for a few months until I figured out what I wanted to do with my life. By 2010 I was back in the UK working my first proper job in IT support for £12 an hour.

I don't understand what kind of reminiscing those guys are reminiscing on that thread, as I'm pretty sure BA return ticket to Heathrow back then was circa 250-300k, at a time when minimum wage was like 5 or 6k, and a very good guy man salary was 100k a month. From what I recall 200k was approaching middle management salary, and 500k was ED renumeration.

So flight ticket still cost the typical guy close to thrice his monthly salary. I might be misremembering, but I do not recall this land of milk and honey those people on that thread are reminiscing of.

The very first sign of decline was in 2006 if I recall, when Soludo devalued the naira. I remember that well because I was buying a ride and that drop in value pushed me from a 2005 model to a 2003 model. I was cussing Soludo not knowing what else was in store. Up to that point naira was n100 or so to the dollar.

There has been a decline in value of naira right from then.

There was another sharp decline in 2012 or 13, not sure. Then it was Okonjo iweala who did it. That was the first loss in our company's history. Because they imported product with forex and were paid in naira (subsidy). So the entire downstream majors lost money that year.

I don't travel, but I do order stuff so I am acutely aware when there is a sharp devaluation because conversion costs pass my threshold and I say this can't work again
