YES! We are enjoying the privileges of a state in Abuja. 1. Taxes are no longer going to FIRS, we remit to Federal Capital Territory Internal Revenue Service (FCT IRS), like all other states have their State Board of Internal Revenue. 2. Health Insurance are no longer with NHIS, we have FCT Health Insurance Scheme, just to mention few... onatisi: |

onuman:Abuja is considered the 37th state pursuant to the provisions of section 299 of the constitution, so if Tinubu has the 25% in 2/3 of the 36 states already as constitutionally mandated, getting 25% in ABJ the 37th state becomes irrelevant. 2 Likes |

Brendaniel: Not at all. No one region is given that power as you're suggesting here. That is against the very idea of the electoral college. It works in principle, to minimize the might of larger states, and amplify that of smaller states so that no one region or state will be able to produce or determine the presidency. In terms of an equivalent, the overall requirement of 1/4 of 2/3 of the States and the FCT is our equivalent to the electoral college. Vesting such powers in the FCT alone, above other States, would achieve the opposite effect by making the FCT vote more powerful than others. 2 Likes |

SmartyPants: shorrop there and stop comparing DC status to FCT in Nigeria - why because we have separate constitutions - IF you must copy and paste American constitution now for convenience to help the Tinubu case - please copy and paste the electoral college system into your argument too - you can not pick and choose the parts of the US constitution to make reference to - please adopt the 2nd amendment too “the right to bear arms” so urchins like you and MC Oluomo can be easily neutralized by patriotic armed citizens during elections when you come to snatch ballot boxes agbaya |

N3TRAL: You should have been intelligent enough to ask Falana which part of the Nigerian constitution told him FCT is the 37th state and why it doesn't have a governor, Senate and House of Representative member...urchins don't use their brains. |

Brendaniel:Try to be open to correction, it's going to help you in life. Abuja is not a state, can't be a state and won't be a state, but you can get your 25% there, is this clear for you? They are not try to give Abuja any special status but to allow Abuja since it's not a state to be part of where your 25% can come from. Example is Peter Obi who got 25% in 16 states which is inclusive of Abuja which is not a state. Without the law including Abuja, Peter Obi would have only got 25% in 15 states even if he wins Abuja vote by 99%. If the law doesn't recognize Abuja to be treated as if it were a state, Abuja won't be part of where your 25% can come from. Check section 299 of the constitution. 2 Likes 1 Share |

FUNNY COMMENT!!! That's why the constitution made it clear that FCT is a state when it comes to Election in section 199 of the Nigerian Constitution. The residents of FCT have the right to vote and be voted for which was why it was captured in the section 134 of the constitution. If not, votes from FCT will not valid. FCT doesn't have any special treatment when it comes to election. FCT is a STATE like the other 36 states when it comes to election. onuman: 2 Likes 1 Share |

paymentvoucher: Abuja is not a state. The Constitution of Nigeria did not recognise Abuja as a state. The Constitution of Nigeria said: a presidential candidate must win 25% of votes in 2/3 of the number of Nigeria's states .. And Abuja. If I need 24 persons and Mr Voucher, if the 24 persons come to me without Mr Voicher, my need has not been met without the arrival of Mr Voucher. The same way the constitution says 24 states AND Abuja. |

Brendaniel:I have come to realize that people choose to believe what they choose to believe, there're no hard and fast rules about what people choose to believe . We believe first then try to find a way to bend the argument in our favour. If Peter Obi had won and gotten 25% in 25 states but didn't get it in Abuja, you'd be at the opposite side of things as we speak 3 Likes 1 Share |

SmartyPants: The Supreme Court is not infallible. Even if ruled in the past to regard Abuja as a state, it's ruling was not implemented because Abuja has had no state governor or state legislature after the ruling of convenience to regard Abuja as a state. Now, there is a dire need to uphold the contents of the constitution, not the old imaginative and unconstitutional ruling of Abuja as a state. There are 36 states and Abuja. |

Karlirk:It seems you are genetically idiotic or it is environmentally acquired, . FCT cannot be used in the same sentence as states without clarifying its status in law . Because it is not a state ! . It is a federal administrative city . The provisions of the law DID NOT give more value to the votes in abuja than the states . Maybe your stupid , hate filled mind will comprehend this. If the law states that 2/3 of the states , and the FCT ( note the comma ) . It means the candidate must win 25% of FCT . If it states that it is 2/3 of the state and FCT ( without the comma ) , it means the candidate must win 2/3 of all the states with FCT inclusive . Meaning 2/3 of 37. Take your own advice and buy brighter grammar . |

favor914: Abuja is not a state. Abuja can only be considered as a state by persons like you (if you are judge), for your own convenience. But Nigeria's Constitution recognises 36 states and Abuja, and made it clear in black and white that a presidential candidate must also win 25% of votes in Abuja to be able to govern Abuja. |

yusfatedeeprof: Section 299 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria The provisions of this Constitution shall apply to the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja as if it were one of the States of the Federation; and accordingly - (a) all the legislative powers, the executive powers and the judicial powers vested in the House of Assembly, the Governor of a State and in the courts of a State shall, respectively, vest in the National Assembly, the President of the Federation and in the courts which by virtue of the foregoing provisions are courts established for the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja; (b) all the powers referred to in paragraph (a) of this section shall be exercised in accordance with the provisions of this Constitution; and (c) the provisions of this Constitution pertaining to the matters aforesaid shall be read with such modifications and adaptations as may be reasonably necessary to bring them into conformity with the provisions of this section. More: https://jurist.ng/constitution/sec-299 You see what it said there that this law is specific for these purposes listed above not election, I am even explaining this issue on another thread why Abuja has a special status about this section 299, the law is clear on this matter... |
