Maize is also a good source of fodder for animals. You can use for cut and carry system and also as silage. I tried maize stover silage last year will post a picture of it

I got a good result from the silage. It has helped me through the drought period of January up till now. I added molasses to the silage to improve its taste and make it more palatable. 3 Likes |

When it comes to sheep farming your feeding operation takes up to 70% of the whole venture followed by house management, deworming regime and use of salt lick. Also early detection of diesease before outbreak will definitively help you prosper in this venture. 6 Likes |

I have two questions Number 1:At what month is a male sheep and female sheep ready for crossing? Number 2:Does inbreeding has any effect on sheep? |

Johnboom:There are different types of dewormers in the market. Albendazole, levamisole, ivermectin are the ones I use. I do rotate them to avoid resistance. Levamisole and ivermectin are injectable. Albendazole is in tablet or liquid form. 4 Likes 1 Share |

Usmanovic95:1.A male sheep under good management will start breeding by 5month. Females will breed by 7month max under good management. 2. Inbreeding absolutely affects your breed. Always change the ram you use to breed and get good viable rams. Your success in the business depends on it 5 Likes 2 Shares |

What kind of housing do you provide for them to save them from the challenges of raining season. Answers with pictures will be highly appreciated. |
Re: Diary Of A Sheep Farmer by Jub101(m): 10:50pm On Apr 04, 2023 |
Billioon:Sheep and ram housing is something that shouldn’t be really over the top. It has to meet some standard criterias. Ventilation must not be joked with, you need slab on the floor to prevent them getting cold and sleeping on their urine and a roofing sheet to prevent rain is also important. As your pocket is, you can build to your own satisfaction but these are the requirements you must adhere too. 2 Likes
