He was a good enough tactician though man management and strategy were his greatest qualities.

When he was at Aberdeen in Scotland he broke the Celtic/Rangers hegemony by winning 3 league titles and 4 Scottish cups in 7 years. Then using that Aberdeen team he defeated Bayern Munich and Real Madrid to win the European Cup Winners Cup.
