The govt should just make University autonomous and make medical school autonomous. Let them charge the normal standard fees they should charge and let those schools use the money to develop their institutions.

Fix the country and people will stay.
It's not surprising that UK saw more than 200% increase in Nigerians after EndSars happened.

You cannot stop people from leaving.
Oya the politicians nko.. Why them nor stop themselves from going outside for treatment

Fix the country in how many days? 60, 90 or 120?

As much as i understand why everybody needs to leave, i have also questioned why this has not bothered the government in a long while.

We just finish arguing about poverty. If all the doctors leave, who will attend to medical cases here?

Or has everyone that japaed ensured they carry all their relatives with them?

Something needs to be done.

I am not against anyone's progress oh, but in all sincerity, something has to be done

You say wetin??
Do you think we just get abroad and start practicing medicine... You think the job is just handed over to them because they finished uni in naija.

Why doesn't this apply to the IT sector too?
Abi you know the amount of brain drain occurring in banking IT departments?

Nothing about this is unfair at all

You seriously can't compare the medical doctors and IT professionals. The absence of one directly leads to loss of lives, the other does not. One can be self taught or learnt in 6 months or less, the other requires several years to master.

The education they receive is seriously subsidised. Go and find out the cost of studying medicine in advanced countries. You can't even get admission to study medicine in some of the countries.

You can't get this training at no significant cost to you and the first thing you do after you qualify is fly to countries that will never have given you admission to study in the first place

The bill is a really good one. If you can't stay 5 years to give back, there are many other courses to study

Them no even pass bill to increase their welfare, wages, insurance on the job and total overhaul of the health sector.

Na to deny them full license till they practice for 5yrs because of one cheap university fees.

It means only those that can afford it, would attend medical school, and if i can afford it, I can definitely japa.

The problem with japa virus is that they are underpaid and not taken care of.

If the government makes it autonomous, can the same government pay them what they will earn equivalently in UK?

Why don't you like Obi? Forget his tribe or their rhetorics since after the elections; why don't you like him as a GCFR? He represents opportunities and more likely to bring in fresh hands.

Aren't you tired of the old hands who've almost run us to the ground? Why don't you want someone who manages public finances relatively well? Why isn't Obi a catch for you since we couldn't get Osinbajo?
well... Obi is actually among the old hands...he only contested from Labour party because he lost primaries at PDP.

At the beginning, what made alot of people key into him was that North and Muslim have ruled the country enough, it's time for South east... it's time for an Igbo man to become president

That zoning stuff really pissed me because people around me were seeing at as a right for him to become president and not about what he has done.

In conclusion...I feel people went into this obidient stuff just because they don't want Tinubu and Muslim-Muslim...But everybody has the right to contest an election

And let's not forget the online bullying, the moment you support PDP or Apc, obidients deem you a witch... everybody has the right to vote his/her choice.

And also the massive amounts of insults Tinubu received from obedients...all those balablu...town hall stuff....it really made me want Tinubu to win.

I supported Atiku btw...I think he's the one with the brains that will get Nigeria working and end poverty, create jobs for youth bla bla bla....but it iz what it izzz... Tinubu will be president and he's more qualified than Peter Obi at least.

So in the end, almost zero percent stays back.

The issue for a prospective japa doctor is that he is underpaid

The issue for the government is that they are not getting some loyalty for their subsidy.

Ermmmm

The survey, which sampled over 56,000 households across the 36 states of the Federation and the FCT, was conducted between November 2021 and February 2022, and provides multidimensional poverty estimates at senatorial district level.

Highlights of the 2022 Multidimensional Poverty Index survey reveal that:

63% of persons living within Nigeria (133 million people) are multidimensionally poor.
The National MPI is 0.257, indicating that poor people in Nigeria experience just over one-quarter of all possible deprivations.
65% of the poor (86 million people) live in the North, while 35% (nearly 47 million) live in the South.

Ermmmm

I mean they only sampled 56000 families. I'm not i see any facts here.

This is not to say I disagree with the argument that Nothern Nigerians are desperately poor, but I was interested in NBS's definition of the word "poor".

I'm not a statistician but their methodology seems pretty shoddy to me. How do you extrapolate data from sampling 56k families to apply to a population size in the hundreds of millions?

I once had a discussion around this on the chelsea thread . If I remember correctly we were arguing about unemployment figures and Larride brandished some NBS stats which I just could not agree with cos I know umployment rate is worse than what the NBS stats were saying .

Larride would have none of it and chose to stand by NBS stats favoring Bubu’s administration as (a party man na). So I called Ibime who is a number guy to reason with me based on say 800k sample size in a country of over 100m will never tell the full story.

Well, Ibime told me that the 800k simple size is okay for naija cos even UK unemployment rate is measured by random sampling of 100k adults and that’s it. I don’t know if Ibime was being politically correct in that discourse or he actually believes extrapolating data of 800k people can do justice to whole populace in a place like naija

There are lots of private universities in Nigeria and a lot of people are attending those Universities.

I’m definitely sure that if subsidy is removed on public tertiary education, the amount still can’t compete with the private university. Uniosun that I attended is fairly run independent of Odin State Govt and they charge 95k per session while I was there (I don’t know if they have increased it).

Those that can’t afford the fees can apply for scholarships and education loans with those conditions applied.

I do agree that medical personnel wages, allowances and welfare should be prioritized as they are critical essential workers.

Most white people I talk to, most of them don't even go to university.. but the have jobs and some create jobs for themselves..

What a serious government should create is industrial training learning enablement..

Most people who go to university in Nigeria are there because they don't pretty have any other good choice or due to parental and societal pressure and coercion..

I think our university is very very over saturated.. if people who are meant to go to university are the ones there, I don't think we will be having all these half baked graduates that they keep churning out that can't even defend shiit..

Did they just realise their skills will not be appreciated after they finished from medical school and got their license?

They actually have an option ab initio, go to the countries where their skills will be appreciated to study medicine.

It's not after you study with taxpayers money then you carry the knowledge away from the same taxpayers who need your service.
